Finally got my 27" 3.1 i5 Refurb ordered. Had problems with the Bank having a block on large purchases. Wish they would have told me that last week when i spoke to them

Now the wait for it to show begins

Placed my order today

Despite the fact that a new revision may be imminent I decided to place an order for a BTO iMac today. I'm getting:
  • 27" w/i7 3.4ghz cpu
  • 8gb memory
  • 1 tb drive w/256gb ssd
  • 6970 w/1gb memory

My primary reasons for buying now are:
  • Will be enjoying a staycation the week of 2/20 and want it by then!
  • I've been really getting into game development as a hobby, so will be heavily using it during said staycation. Having lots of fun learning Unity 3d and Modo, and the 2560 x 1440 display will be hugely helpful in having both dev environment and references open side-by-side. I don't imagine the next gen iMac will have a higher res screen.
  • Have an old iMac, and even if next gen drives prices down for new, it'll also drive down the potential sale price of my used which will partially offset any potential cost savings
  • Getting older, and far less bothered by "I don't have the latest and greatest". If I love what I have, I'm happy!

It's been fun reading through this thread, and I'm excited to now be able to participate in it! :)

It's due sometime between next Wednesday and Friday, so the wait won't be bad at all, although I'm already feeling the anticipation build. :D

Just got myself a refurbished iMac 21.5" Core i5. The screen is huge! I can't begin to imagine how big a 27" screen is!

Mine just arrived yesterday, and the 27" makes it feel like I'm sitting in front of an IMAX (or is that iMax? :) ) movie screen.

Ah, yes! Last time I went to an iMax theatre I had a really bad headache and nausea after the movie. It was awesome nonetheless!

Wouldn't be surprised how big the 27" iMac. There's obviously a big difference from my old 18.5" non-Apple monitor to the 21.5" iMac :p.

Finally a first time Mac owner here! I actually used to work at Apple, own iPods/Phones/Pads and peripherals, but never made the jump to an actual Mac computer. Finally bought my 21.5" last night, have 8gb of RAM and a nice external drive heading to me today courtesy of Newegg, and I can't wait to go home and set it all up with Logic Pro 9!

Just ordered a 21.5" 2.7 GHz Quad-core i5 4 GB ram 1 TB refurb model this morning. This will be my first experience actually ordering a refurb computer. This will be replacing my late-2008 aluminum MacBook, which has become a bit too slow for my liking. I'm *hoping* this will be a noticeable upgrade. Is that to be expected? Thoughts?

And I had previously ordered a refurb iPad2, but that shipped from China (which I thought to be a bit strange). Can I expect the refurb iMac to also ship from China, or somewhere here in the states?

Pretty stoked. almost 2 weeks a go, I walked out of the store at Mall of America with a Macbook Air 13" I7. My first Mac btw. I love it so much, I ordered my iMac 27" Core I7 with 2TB and 2 GB video card, and 4 GB of ram (I'll upgrade the ram myself). I was going to get the SSD, but couldn't justify the price. I think the 2 TB hard drive will be plenty fast. Windows has been good. Ive been using it along wit DOS 5 and 6 since the early 90's. So long MS. Lion is liberating!

I pick it up on the 29th. Woo Hoo!

Hey congrats Zman!!! May they both serve you well and bring much delight for many years. :)

Only I could do this in to a Mac in 24 hours....

I just got an iMac 5,2 with OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard installed. Refurb (I think). Bought it from eBay for $250 + shipping.

I've used Mac's at work for about a year or so now & figured I'd get one for myself after I ordered a ZOOM R16 recording studio that comes with Cubase LE 5. After looking up about compatibility, Cubase LE 5 is supposedly good with any OS X from 10.3 and up. Well, that whole "and up" statement is rather assumptive. Yes, Cubase LE 5 works with 10.3 and up, but the drivers for the R16 work with OS X UP TO 10.6.7. After that, they don't work. So having Cubase is really pointless. I managed to Royally screw up my Mac in about 24 hours or less. How? Well, I didn't see anywhere that said BootCamp only works with Windows XP SP2 & if you're thinking that you'll just install SP1 and update it, you will Royally ****** yourself! Didn't read that anywhere. Wish I had. Maybe I should start a thread with that title: "If you're thinking of installing Windows XP SP1 with BootCamp, then updating to SP2...you are ********** yourself in the arse. Have a nice day:)"

Most would think, what's the big deal? If you screw it up, just reboot holding down the option key and get back into OS X. Except, my iMac didn't come with a keyboard, so I was simply using my PC's keyboard.....that doesn't HAVE AN OPTION KEY!!!! No worries. A quick web search on my iPhone and I found out that the Alt key is the same thing. So, sure enough, I was able to get back into the Mac OS.

Gosh, as screwed as I figured I was, it sure seems like the guys at Apple really thought of everything.

Hey all,

New member here. Just wondering what people think about purchasing a new iMac. Should I wait for the 2012 revision, or should I just pick up the current model? I don't have an urgent need for a new computer... but I'd like to do more photo/video editing, and my primary home computer right now is a macbookpro from 2006.

Thoughts?

Well I have a 2006 iMac and have just decided to order a new iMac. Have been thinking about waiting for the refreshed version but just decided that the current version is going to be so much better than my current iMac so couldn't wait another few months. Also figured that of the new iMacs are enough of an updgrade to make me regret getting one now, I can always sell my iMac and pay a little extra to get the refreshed version, although I'm sure I'll be more than happy with my new iMac.

Got my 27" i5 refurb today no extras in it, but i did drop my 16gb of ram in, transferring music now. Probably be a few days before i can really dig into it. But lovin it so far

Picking up my new 27" base iMac tomorrow!

I'm so stoked, after 4.5 years with my trusty Santa Rosa Macbook Pro 15" from '07, I'm selling it and moving up to a new 27" base 2011 iMac. I have a good friend who works for Apple and got me the friends/family discount (15% off), and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow! (Also, Newegg had a great Presidents Day sale and I picked up 16gb of RAM for $64, and that should arrive tomorrow as well). Wish me luck, I'm think it will be a substantial upgrade from my current setup.

Just ordered a refurb iMac 27-inch 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 with a Thunderbolt Display and Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750. This setup is going to replace my iMac 21.5" 3.06 i3 and external Samsung 21.5" LCD.

I wanted to hold out until the Ivy Bridge refresh but my credit card has a special financing promotion going on this week so I decided to take advantage of it.

I'm mainly going to use it for school work (lost of multitasking), which is why I wanted as much screen real estate as possible. I would have preferred the 3.4GHz i7 and 6970m but I couldn't justify spending that much more for something that will be outdated in a few months.

Just splurged a little. Bit the bullet and upgraded my iMac to an i7 27' with 8gb ram and the 2tb/ssd combo.

Was gonna wait for the refresh, but since i needed to either upgrade the old iMac and MacPro ASAP, i went with the iMac. Quite excited actually.

I'm in the exact same situation, the only difference is that I must purchase it before mid march, (insurance claim expires then) but I fear I'll end up with the current model. After all an old Mac covered by insurance is better than none!

I have been a lurker here for a while waiting for news on the new iMac. So I just got a base 21.5 iMac with a time capsule and one to one. It's our first Mac so One to One seemed like a good idea. It's been a great experience so far.

I'm currently waiting for the 2012 model to be released before I buy my first iMac. Then I will see the price difference between the new ones and what's currently available. That's what I was going to do when they announced the iPhone 4. But I got so into all the new functions decided I just couldn't by a 3G model by then. I guess it's no summer holiday for me this year!
