By the way, I see that they moved the 21.5 models from 7-10 days to 2-3 Weeks... I knew that was coming. . .

Can you believe?

Can you believe I got my fully loaded (minus the ram) 27" iMac delivered to me yesterday morning and I still have not taken it out of the box? How rude of me!!! Someone yell at me or something!

On another note, I will be getting my RAM tomorrow. I ordered 32 gb from Macsales.com because of their lifetime warranty and customer service. Quick question. Since my iMac has not been out of its box yet, should I load up all the new ram into my imac before I turn it on for the first time OR should I power everything up with the apple ram first just to make sure it all works ok and then put the new ram in?

Boot it up first. Check 'About This Mac' to ensure it's the specs you ordered and it boots okay. Just to be on the safe side ;)

Then whack the RAM in :)

Enjoy your new iMac! Very jealous. I miss having an iMac.

I'd probably try to fire it up once to make sure everything is working. I also hope you know what you're doing, because these things do not come apart easily

Apple sure have given themselves bad press with the inaccessible 21" ram. Most people seem to have learnt simply that 'the new imac's ram can't be upgraded' and assume it applies to all models. It's a fair assumption to be honest.

Ah, well thats good to know! I haven't tried to open mine up, and hopefully I never have to!!
If you ever need/want more ram, there's no reason not to. It's only a small hatch for ram access only.

Seems like good business to me. Most people, except nerds like us don't want anything to do with expandability :)

Well it's the way things are going anyway. But I notice people that have read or heard a little on the subject (IE: Windows users who have a passing interest) make the natural assumption. The 27" line does still target nerds, or at least part time nerds.

...I got a collegue, she's in her 60th. Other collegues told her to switch to Mac as she ask them and so she bought a 13'' MB and, to have a "serious" device for her SLR, a 21'' iMac. This was last spring.
The iMac is still in it's box, she didn't even unwrap it.

Everytime we talk and come back to that I try to convince her to take a photo every few days to show the box collecting all the dust and doing an un-unboxing video... :D

You should ship the box to me! :p

I put the ram in before firing it up just so i didn't have to turn it off and unplug it again. I don't see any risk doing this.

When did you order yours? So we can get more of a feel on how things are shipping?

Finally, i have an iMac.

Thanks to a great discount advertisement of at a Dutch Electronics Warehouse (Mediamarkt) i got 17,36% discount on the Apple retail price of a base model iMac 27 2012 which was the only model in stock. total price: €1574,35
I put in an extra 16gb off ram so i have a total of 24gb now.

I originally placed an online order at Apple with 8% student discount for the upgraded iMac 27 with in addition the 680mx videocard.
I really looked forward to the 680mx but i didn't want to wait another 3-4weeks before delivery. I also start to over think " do i really need the 680mx?", and came to the conclusion no i don't i am not a big gamer and my xbox360 will fulfill my needs.

i am an Apple newbie but after using my iMac for just 2 days i already regret not switching to Apple sooner. I will probably switch my windows laptop soon to an macbook air or pro.

for all who are still waiting: hang in there, its worth it.
