Anyone ever received something from the refurb store that's marked/scratched? I'm considering a 2011 iMac, and am a little bit cautious about getting one in dodgy condition.

Thanks.

P.S. Anyone know where I may be able to buy a 2011 27" iMac new? In the UK here.

Mate I can't even hear mine run at all. It's like it isn't even on.

What kind of environment are you in? I cant understand people who says their iMac is quiet. Either those people dont hear so good or their environment is loud because i can hear my iMac clearly when its runnig in a complete quiet room.

My setup is 27" i7 with Fusion Drive. I think the fan is quite "loud" when sitting in front of it in a quiet room. And the fan is running at normal speed, ~1200 rpm

It's in a quiet bedroom. And sitting next to it I can not hear it at all. There isn't much to understand. If a fair few people have said that the iMac runs whisper quiet then why don't you believe them. You may have a loud one.

Could you record it? I have nothing to compare with so maybe my iMac is loud, i dont know.

I have had no bad experience with my previous imac core 2 duos fans and it ran whisper quiet with an ssd that is until the processor and gpu started going on me because it was getting too hot and I had to speed up the fans to over 6000 rpms just to keep it usable

That's because this is VERY subjective. It's honestly barely worth talking about noise anymore with anyone. One man's noise...

Yea the part whether you think its loud or not is subjective, the actual dB the computer is making isn't.

Im not saying your computers are noisy in your environment, all I want is to know if something is wrong with my computer or if it is the way it sounds.

Minor update.

iMac is nothing short of amazing! Still have to get used the OS because of Windows habits, but i like it so far. It's the little things compared to Windows I like about it like moving folders and see the progress of each individual folder. Simple things that make life easier.

No need to kill background processes. No more Latencymon or DSP Spikechecker when using Logic. Audio is running smooth! Finally I can make music without fixing the damn computer all the time because of conflicts and what not.

The iMac is booting from an external Samsung SSD with the Seagate Thunderbolt adapter. I'm not noticing any differences compared to internal drive. Next to that a smaller SSD via USB3. The internal drive I now use for Timemachine and maybe Carbon Copy Cloner. Cloning was a breeze compared to PC. 6 Hours compared to less then 20 minutes with CCC. Incredible!

I should have done this sooner. I was totally against Apple and their overpriced products, but it all changed since the Iphone4. Realy glad I bought the iMac. Even the fan sounds relaxing when pushed at max rpm with SMCFancontrol.

Thanks to the forum for the info in setting up the iMac.

Once you get sick of Finder (you can't even cut and paste...), be sure to download Path Finder (there's a free trial). I can't imagine not using it...

Congrats on the new Mac. It really is awesome. :)

… uuuhhhhmm, CMD+C - CMD+Option+V anyone? Cut and paste? You have to have Mountain Lion though.

I had no idea you could do that. :D Probably because you can't do it from the "Edit" menu, and unless you're a nerd you'd have NO idea you could even do it at all.

In any case, very awkward commands. No idea why Apple didn't make it CMD+X, CMD+V, like it is in Path Finder/Windows. And in PF you can right click, hit "cut", right click, hit "paste." Or do it from the Edit menu etc. And you can customize the right click menu. Oh but don't let me get too involved in its awesomeness. :)

Path Finder is still a zillion times better than Finder. I was listing one minor example. :)

I guess I just am a nerd then! Haha. I like working with shortcuts and usually don't know how to find commands in the menu bar anymore :)

I am also not using vanilla Finder, I use XtraFinder (where you can turn on the CMD+X command if you want to).

Would someone be kind enough to record their 27" new iMac? I just want to make sure my iMac is okay. I can't visit an Apple Store since there are no here.

Sill happy with my new Imac! It's quiet at default and even on higher rpm the fan sounds relaxing compared to my Vaio laptop which sounded like a vacuum. I do have a dead pixel now:(. It's hardly noticeable though.

I'm booting via Thunderbolt Seagate adapter. Takes 32 seconds which is kinda slow tbh.

Today my Thunderbolt display arrived. So far no dead pixels. They are both not level which looks weird next to each other. I nudged both a bit, but I still can't lock them together side by side.

Been learning Logic and I really like it a lot. It does so many things right compared to Cubase and my audiocard sounds so much better now! Not sure anymore if I'm going to bootcamp Cubase 7 or save the money.

Final note: glad I switched to Mac. But for a company that chooses form over function quality control should be high priority: yellow displays, dead/stuck pixels, Imacs not level etc. etc. shouldn't be happening at the current pricing.

New 27" iMac

I just bought a refurb 27" iMac with 3.4 Ghz processor and 2 GB VRAM and 1TB Fusion Drive. What an awesome machine, my Late 2011 MacBook Pro doesn't hold a candle to it. The refurb price is $400 cheaper than new and I can tell you it is gorgeous. It is fast, I was going to upgrade the RAM and probably still will but at the moment the machine is super fast.

Weee!

Although this is now the "how loud is your iMac?" thread, just thought I'd say:

Finally pulled the trigger on a 27-inch, i7, 680MX, 1TB Fusion(and Magic Trackpad) after an absolute age of saving. Replacing an early 2008 Macbook Pro.

Anyone qualified to anaesthetize me until it gets here?
