I'm having my very first iMac delivered tomorrow. An i5 27" 3.2GHz. Looking forward to give this baby a go when I return from work in the afternoon. It will mark the switch, and the end, of a PC era that started in 1996 (I used Amiga previous to that).

You will be so happy with that configuration! :D Don't worry about upcoming refreshes. It will likely be a processor and video card boost, but not much else. Enjoy! :)

After dithering, in case of a refresh, I've also just ordered a 21.5-inch today.

There are benefits to ordering today at the latest.

Namely, it's the last day of the Back to School promotion which gives £70 to spend in the App store or on iTunes.

The iMac arrives on Tuesday which is the day of the Apple event. If they do do a 'silent' refresh on that day (despite it looking like an iPhone event) then the iMac can be exchanged immediately for the new one at no financial loss, in accordance with Apple's 14 day exchange policy.

If they don't refresh, then it's too long to wait until October or whenever, as a computer is needed now for school. Either way I feel I've 'won'.

Previously I had a April 2011 iMac, and I remember waiting and waiting for the refresh which was expected after a year, but which took 20 months. On that schedule it *could* be another 10 months until we see a new iMac.

Who knows!

Pleased and not regretting my decision.

I was going to pick up a 27" iMac and I can't find a local bestbuy within 60 miles that has one in stock!

Interesting, because here in the UK the despatch time for non-BTO models is showing as 24 hours. For non-BTO models we usual get them for the next day.

Yet, when I ordered the base non-BTO 21.5-inch my delivery date is next Thursday.

This *might* indicate a stock shortage.

Hmm, what *could* this mean?

....refresh coming up

Is there a big difference between the 2.9 and 3.2 GHz models?

Just Dropped The $$$

Just bought my first iMac and am waiting for it to be delivered... I'm giddy with anticipation of receiving it. Here are the specs I ordered:

  • 3.7GHz Intel Core i7
  • 8GB RAM **Will Self Upgrade to 24GB**
  • 3TB Fusion Drive
  • 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 680MX

Can't wait to get it in the mail :D

Bought a refurbished 27" i7 680MX 8Gb 1TB FD last week.
Ordered it september 3 arrived september 5. Very pleased with the service.
The iMac looks brand new, no signs of use or the slightest scratch.
Coming from a 24" 3.06 C2D the increase in speed is very noticeable (editing RAW photo files and video editing).
Already upgraded the RAM to 24Gb :)
Very happy with the purchase (and the saved €€€) :)

New Imac release expected?

I am new here, so if this post is in the wrong section I apologize for that. My question is this:

Is there a new Imac release expected anytime soon? If the new model going the be significantly better in performance? (i don't care about the design personally)

The buyersguide says you should NOT buy an Imac now, but it doesn't say when the new Imac is to be expected or how the new haswell thing (i guess they mean a processor) is going to change the performance.

I was gonna wait but my aging pc is on its last leg so I pulled the trigger and got an new iMac due to being in a super small space atm I went with the 21.5
i7 with 16 gigs of ram. This will be my first iMac since the 20" Imac G4 !!! I used to have a 2006 MacBook Pro but she moved on. It should be here some time this week HAPPY DAYS !!!!!

I couldn't really wait, ordered the top base 27" on Thursday, but it's still saying "preparing for dispatch", even when it says delivery is for tomorrow. I don't understand.

I ordered a refurbished 27" base model as well, since school started for me. The hard drive works faster than I expected. It's a significant step up from my 13" 2010 macbook.

Will be setting up an external ssd to boot from when I get the funds.

I'm looking at the rumoured new specs thread for the new iMAC 2013 - 14 line and was wonder is it possible to upgrade them like e.g. buying them from the online store and put them in myself or would I need to buy a brand new mac for just to use them

would love to have the new icore 7 and new graphics card plus maybe a bigger HDD, but someone can dream right lads

also would they let you use us your old mac as an upgrade tool to cut the price of the new macs?

Is it necessary to reboot my late 2012 iMac sometimes in order to "refresh" it, or is it just fine to run it 24/7?

Suprise from my Wife

Yesterday while doing some work around the house, I put my 2009 iMac on to play some music through iTunes. when my wife went to use it, it had locked up and we had to do a hard reset. It turned on, got to the grey screen, then hung again. Multiple hard resets were needed to get it back up and running, so we thought things were OK. She did what she needed to do, then we put some music back on. After a few minutes the songs started stuttering and skipping, then another hang and another hard reset.

Next thing I know my wife has navigated over to the Apple store and has ordered up a new 27" iMac (3.4Ghz i7, 3TB fusion, 680MX 2GB)! Literally she took something like 2 minutes to make the decision, not that we haven't talked about it. She then told me to order whatever memory I want, so we've got 32GB coming from Crucial. We saved about $200 using the education store.

I know there may be a refresh coming in a month, but going from a duo core machine to this will be a huge difference for me!

Run it 24/7, baby! Just let it sleep once and a while.

Since the refresh happened today (surprise!), I picked up this:

3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB
512GB Flash Storage
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
Magic Trackpad
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
Accessory Kit

And also an Airport Extreme Router. Online gaming, here I come!

hope they send you the new one automatically!

Just ordered a 21.5" base model with 256GB SSD. Don't have a lot of data, and coming from a 2010 MBA 11" I prefer to stay with SSD rather than getting fusion drive. Should be a nice upgrade, and the price for this configuration has dropped by €200 here in Germany.
