I ordered a refurbished 27 inch 3.4GHZ I7 yesterday and today it says Preparing shipment. I called Apple once I learned today of updated Model and they put a Return request and the told me it may not be shipped. Does anyone have any experience with this? Are they going to ship it so I will have to wait until I receive it to ship it back? What a shame as my current iMac is going on me its freezing all the time . My current Imac is 5 years old 27 inch model. Any advice if they ship it should i just l live with refurbished one which is 600 cheaper or should I send it back and order the new one?

Thank you

Jeff

If I were in your place and could afford the upgrade, I'd opt for new iMac over the refurb.

Not sure if your refurb will ship, wish you luck.

If it does ship and you don't want it, just refuse delivery and you won't have to deal with the return.

Are you sure if I refuse delivery it will go back to Apple and I will be credited back to my credit card the full amount? Refusing delivery would be easier than me having to send it back myself. As I just spoke to Apple and they say if I refuse delivery it will take much longer for them to get it back as it may sit with UPS longer and it wont have the return request label on the box. I asked if I could tape it to the box when UPS shoes up and they said they doubt UPS will allow me to do that.

You don't need a return label. If you refuse the shipment and it's returned to Apple, they'll still have your order info in the box. No problems whatsoever.

If it shows up, just refuse it and wait for it to return to Apple :)

Would you say this is faster than receiving it and shipping it back with return label? I was told fedex was shipping and UPS is used to return .

The Refurbished 27-inch iMac 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 says $1,599.00, $400 off...but isn't it only $200 off now?

Edit: Well after the Customer Service Rep tried to BS me by saying they were different computers (they're not), my $400 savings is now $200 (only $100 savings if I use my gov't discount), so I may have to go ahead and go new.

Well, I placed the order for my first Apple computer yesterday.

27"
3.5GHz i7
32GB
1TB SSD
780M

Kinda excited. Now I just have to wait until Oct 7-9...!

Yesterday I shipped back my 2013 13" MBA (i7/8/256), because it an unstable WiFi connection, long latency times when pinging to my router, and it stayed in on my desk being plugged in. Today I ordered the base model 21.5" iMac with the 256GB SSD upgrade.

Thanks! I bet I will! I will be glad to get away from all the moving parts and giant 77mm fans blasting all day.
Oh and arrival date is set from Oct 5th - 9th

Woohoo! Punched "Buy" on the top-tier 27" with the 512GB SSD upgrade, and 16GB ordered from Crucial. Swapped in the Magic Trackpad, too, just for fun (I use and prefer a traditional Logitech multi-button mouse for design work, but have been curious about trying the trackpad for other tasks).

This is a business computer—I'm a self-employed designer/consultant—and it's going to replace a 2009 27" i5 that has been a rock-solid workhorse. But with a baby on the way and other expenses coming, I figured it was "now or never" for a new machine. :)

Cateye - exactly the reason for my hitting the buy button too :)
So we now have 2 bundles of joy on the way ;)

Outgoing System...

Early 2011 Macbook Pro 13.3"
13.3" @ 1280x800
2.3 GHz Intel core i5 (dual core)
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
500GB 5400-rpm hard drive

Incoming System (ordered 27/09/13)

Late 2013 iMac 27"
27" @ 2560x1440
3.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor (quad core)
8 GB 1600MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
1 TB fusion drive

Cannot wait - (but will have too) - estimate is 10th - 14th October for delivery

Particularly looking forward to the upgrade in graphics - been dabbling in eve online in recent months with all settings set too low. The extra resolution and graphics boost will no doubt transform the experience.

Also looking forward to hitting full screen in iPhoto :D

I think this configuration gets most bang for your bucks if you're on a budget and would have been exactly my choice as well.

Since I had more to spend (saving for a very long time) here's mine:

new 27" iMac
3.5GHz i7
8GB RAM
GTX 780M 4GB
256GB SSD

(not to mention the obligatory 3rd party RAM upgrade and huge external drive)

Omg you bought the very maxed out imac..even the 32GB from apple...1T SSD :D

Last weekend, before the 2013 iMac update, I had ordered a (2012) 27" i5 / 1 TB HD / 680MX from B&H for $1,949. But after the update, I saw that Apple was selling refurb 2012's with the i7 CPU, 1 GB Fusion Drive, and 680MX GPU for $1,999.

That was too good of a deal to pass up. A day earlier the same configuration cost $2,599!

I ordered it late Tuesday night (actually Wednesday morning), and even though Apple said it could take 5 business days to ship it I got a tracking # Wednesday evening. And it was delivered just two days later on Friday.

This was to replace an old 24" aluminum iMac from 2008 with the 8800GS graphics card.

The 27" screen is absolutely amazing. It dwarfs the 24" screen, and with 2,560 horizontal pixels it has so much usable space.

It is also great to be able to play CS:GO with high settings at 1440P.

And the Fusion Drive is ridiculously fast.

Ordered a 27" iMac yesterday

3,5 i7
16GB RAM (will be upgrading to 32GB)
780M 4GB
512GB SSD

I ordered at an Apple Premium Reseller, but I hope it will also arrive in the 10 - 14th october timeframe...

It will be my first my first Mac desktop. My first Mac was a black MacBook, and now I still use my 2009 MacBook Pro (3,06 C2D, 256 GB SSD, 8GB RAM). My MacBook is getting 'old', but I will still be using it daily to take to school. Later on when my MacBook will really get slow, it will be perfect to buy a MacBook air to accompany my iMac.

May I ask why?

Just wondering what application actually benefits from this upgrade

From the first day of my Se30 every RAM slot in every Mac I have ever bought has been filled to the max. It is the Mac way. If you ask why so much RAM you may not be one of us.

I can give you a quick and easy answer for why I ordered 32 GB for my new iMac! Running several ESXi hosts in a Virtual Center cluster within Fusion.

Also, just because. RAM is cheap. Virtualization is a good reason, though.

If you do a lot of video or rendering work, projects are loaded into available memory which is significantly faster than drive based editing. Other is virtualisation as mentioned.

If you just browse and watch videos 8GB is probably fine :)
