After the Mac Trashcan fiasco I decided to get an iMac. Here are the obligatory specs:

27" monitor

3.5 GHz i7

24 GB ram (8 from apple, 12 from OWC)

780 nvidia

3 TB HD internal (recovery + 3 partitions: 480 is a system mirror, 1 TB is data, rest is stuff not on TM)

480 GB SSD external (system, users, and aps) via USB3 copied to internal at intervals

4 TB external HD for timemachine, uses thunderbolt

voyager q via USB3 I will use 4 TB drives in for complete system backups

blu-ray burner (+reader+dvd r/w+cd r/w) via TB->firewire adapter

How many systems involve multiple companies and orders and will arrive as 'some assembly required'? :)

5-7 days delivery time for 2 bto (21+27)
Today is the 4th october, delivery time 17-21 october. Mmm apple needs a calculator or a new calendar. Ihihiihihiji

I don't know anything about the 2009 iteration but my 27" iMac is dead silent.

You've bought a monster machine. You will definitely not be disappointed with it. How much did you have to pay for it?

If you lean behind the screen, do you hear the fan when it's completely silent in the room?

You hear absolutely nothing. The only thing I can hear from time to time is the harddrive whizzing for a moment.

That kind worries me since I have heard a late 2012 27" with 1TB Fusion drive imac in a very quite room, and I don't think it's completely quiet. It's not loud, but the fan is definitely noticeable if you're sitting in front of it or leaning back. And the fan is running at the normal ~1200 rpm.

I'm just not sure if there's something wrong since people say it's COMPLETELY quiet, or only because I'm very sensitive to noise.

If you have the Applecare you could always phone up a technician and ask about it. Compared to the old PC I used before the iMac is completely silent.

Mine arrived today at 16:30 BST - Manchester, UK.

Finished setting it up an hour ago, really intuitive machine/OS (it's my first mac).

3.4 i5
1TB Fusion
8GB RAM
GTX 780

No issues with the screen at all, I'm blown away TBH.

I went through this earlier in the year as to whether or not people can hear it. I had both a maxed version and a 660 version and they both produced a just audible fan noise in a completely quiet room. Sent them back because it drive me crazy not knowing exactly what was up. If the TV was on or there was some other ambient noise, then you wouldn't hear it. Some people don't hear particular frequencies well, so what one person might hear, someone else might not.

So I'm back to waiting until this months event reveals what's up with the MacBook Pro and mini to see whether or not I go with imac, mini or macbook soon.

So you sent your back?

Im very happy with mine, but when i read people say its completely quiet, i start to wonder if mine is defect since i can hear it even though its quiet. But i guess it's just because my ears are still young. i

I dont have an Apple Store anywhere nearby so can't really take it there and to call the support and ask is kind of difficult since they can't hear it and say wether it's normal or not.

I wish SSDs were cheaper since the HDD in the iMac is the component that makes the most noise(though not much)

Mine arrived today at 16:30 BST - Manchester, UK

Lucky! Did you pay for Saturday delivery, or did you get it yesterday? At the checkout it didn't seem to make a difference, but now I've realised if I'd paid the extra £10 I would've had it set up by now. :( Oh well, looks like I'm waiting until Monday evening. According to UPS, mine's departed Tamworth - this was yesterday evening and I haven't had an update since.

Ordered:

27" iMac
*NVIDIA GeForce GTX780M 4GB GDDR5
*3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
*8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X4GB
*512GB Flash Storage
*Magic Trackpad

*32GB Crucial RAM on the way too

Just checking, but is the 32GB RAM on top of the 8GB already in the machine? If so, then the amount of RAM in the machine would be 40GB, it will only take 32GB max.

Apple website (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5908):
The maximum amount of RAM you can install in your computer is 32 GB (an 8 GB SO-DIMM in each slot).

No mate, standard delivery, arrived Friday @ 16:30, ordered 27/09 @ 17:32.

Took just under a week to arrive.

Well, I just ordered my first ever mac product!

iMac 2013
i7 CPU
256gb SSD
780m GPU
Wired keyboard + Magic Trackpad

So yeh... now just have to wait a couple weeks! If only I was good at patience lol.

By the way, what brand are these glass-style speakers everyone seems to have? I may need to pick up a set :)

All these picture of new Imac's make me anxious and envious i ordered mine on the 1st of October through a retailer and still have heard no word, I hope that when I do get mine it runs flawlessly with no problems.

Just loving my first Mac and have kept my old 24" monitor to see if I can get along with working from 2 screens. Have to say it works perfectly, so looking forward to the (I believe) greater flexibility Mavericks will give with multi-screen use.

My wife did say "if you get aloing with 2 screens, wouldn't it be better to get a matching screen"....thought I'd died and woke up in heaven :D
