Took delivery of a new iMac yesterday. Long time PC guy so pretty excited to make the change.

Power on, only sound and voice prompts. Screen is black with not a hint of life. AppleCare has me check and do a few things, but nada. It's back in the box and I'm headed to the retail store Saturday.

It was a refurbished model, but I had only heard great things about them. Meh.

sorry to hear that

Wish you luck with the next one. I got a dud refurb iMac 3 years ago, after that I caved in and bought new.

Whatever happens, it works out for you.

Picked up a 27" "BTO" without having to do the "order" part.

Apple Stores seem to be stocking a few 3.5 i7/8GB RAM/3TB Fusion/780M models, although I'd call ahead to confirm at your local.

PS: Anyone who doesn't get at least the Fusion drive is crazy.

Took the plunge and ordered my 27" to replace my 2010 22". Can't wait

The fusion def adds days to delivery. I ordered a 27" 256ssd today and delivery is set for within 7 days.

i just did the same thing. Genius Bar confirmed the refurb had a dead LCD. i just opted to return it there and get a new base 21.5 iMac. didn't want to mess around with an exchange or return or whatever with Apple Online. couple hundred more, but i am all set with the current model to enter my MacLife.

despite the issue, once again, Apple customer service is second to none.

Glad to hear it worked out

Their customer service is part of the reason why I've stuck around so long.:)

May your new iMac serve you for years to come. Enjoy it!

Got my new iMac on the 9 of october.
I've just installed windows 8 pro with bootcamp and i'm waiting for 8.1 update.
No burned pixel.
Ram inside from hynix.
27"
I7 3.5
Fusion 3Gb
Gtx 780m 4Tb
24 Gb Ram (8gb + 16gb from Hynix ;-)

Waiting for maverich!

I finally caved and whipped the debit card out.

Went for the 1tb ssd:

I realised that you cannot actually buy a 1tb pcie ssd even for a Windows box for the £800 apple are charging coupled with the read/write speeds people are getting. I am surprised apple are not charging more. It's also not cheap to add storage this fast externally later...

Memory & Applecare:

Add additional 16gb of owc once I get the iMac and it's all ok.

Not true. With the OWC RAM you would have 24GB total. Here you pay for 16 but don't still have the original 8.

wish I would have thought of that. You are smarter than me. I guess this is why it's not a good idea to place the order late at night after 12 hour work day. Can't think clearly. Luckily it is still processing so I canceled the order and will reorder with 8GB RAM. Thanks for the heads up BTW.

I wish i got all solid state instead of Fusion Drive. The HDD is the only thing that makes noise :(

Hooray! Just ordered my new iMac.

27" 3.4Ghz
16GB Ram
1TB Fusion
775 2GB GPU

Thanks to all for advice.

Ordered mine 1st of October and it been quiet ever since. Next tuesday it will be three weeks :( common already, how long does it take to make a iMac, it feels like i am buying a car or house.

Whats the story dude, what is the order status ?

Mine shipped yesterday . Delivery estimated for Thursday Oct 24. Fed ex is usually pretty quick here in the US so maybe sooner. I remember when I ordered my last mac it came like 3 days before the estimated date.

Mine arrived today at 16:30 BST - Manchester, UK.

Finished setting it up an hour ago, really intuitive machine/OS (it's my first mac).

3.4 i5
1TB Fusion
8GB RAM
GTX 780

No issues with the screen at all, I'm blown away TBH.

Here she is:

Would you mind sharing what brand/model desk that is and where you purchased? Thanks
