I hope that my new iMac comes in this week at least I will have something to follow the Apple coverage on.

Edit: Still no reply, tomorrow marks three weeks since I placed my order.

Ok, received the imac on the day they had projected. Everything cool but... I rang them saying, hey do you mind if i can swap the wired keyboard (which I ordered) for the wireless keyboard and mouse. No sir, say Apple, and with some persuasion they can only send one item either a wireless mouse or keyboard.

oh well. No big deal.

Hey guys!
Recently ordered an iMac 27"

Configuration:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX780M 4GB GDDR5
3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X4GB
256GB Flash Storage

AppleCare + 0.5m Thunderbolt Cable.

So excited at the moment, my friends have no idea how happy and excited I am to get such a nice machine.

Schedule to delivered by: 24/10/2013 - 28/10/2013

Hope it arrives at the 24th anything later just makes me feel worse :S

AHHH! SO EXCITED!

Please arrive on the 24th <3 :apple:

LOL! After weeks of hearing nada about my iMac I finally got the shipping confirmation for it ... the day before mavericks is due to be released.

Oh well, I guess I will just apply the upgrade.

Mine got shipped yesterday as well. It happened to me before: A new Mac being shipped a day or two before a new OS X release. It ended up having the new version pre-installed already.

I'm really hoping this will be the case here as well. I can't really imagine Apple shipping a brand new iMac in an outdated box, with an outdated OS X version the day before a new OS X release. But who knows...

Judgement Day

Today is the day I have been waiting for...

My Late 2008 MBP is on its' last legs, and I have been waiting to see whether the Mac Pro is going to give me the same 'bang for my buck' as a 27" iMac.

My price range is around £3000 so factoring in a display, I'd be looking at a Mac Pro for around £2,200 - and that's assuming there'll even be a model in that price range, or an iMac, full spec except 512GB SSD and 32GB RAM bought elsewhere).

I work in web/print design and occasionally do some animation and video editing... I often leave many apps open as I switch between them frequently.

Is there anyone else in a similar field working on a 2013 maxed out iMac who can share their views of its' performance?

Same here. It would be the height of irony if one of the first things I did after turning it on (and migrating all my data) was to update the OS.

Hi all, this is my first post but i've been lurking this forum (especially this section) for months, convincing myself (thanks to your great posts) I needed to switch. Well, I did it. Last night I walked in to my local Apple store and bought an iMac 27 base model. So today, i will join the family! After 20 years, i'm finally closing the 'windows', no more 'Windows 8.1' for me. Wish me luck. Also it feels like a privilege and honor to be apart of this forum as I have so much to learn from all of you.

Congrats - I'm not sure if you have used OSX before, but if not, there's a very small period of getting used to it (not really a 'learning curve' - more a feeling of "where the hell is my start bar" - though you probably had that with the newer Windows :).

I stopped using windows in 2008 and haven't looked back (well, for work I occasionally have to use it... but begrudgingly and it feels like i'm losing bits of my soul)!

Anyway, my tips for any new mac user:

- Spotlight is your friend (CMD + Space) - open it, search anything... very quick and easy to find apps and files

- If it was CTRL + something on Windows, it's probably CMD + Something on OSX (Cut, Paste, Copy etc etc)

- Use Spaces (multiple desktops) and don't forget, if you right click on a application icon you can assign that program to a specific desktop (ie, Safari to always open on the 2nd Desktop screen)

Good luck :D

jordanm86,

Thank you so much for your great advise, I appreciate you! I heard a rumor that Apple will refresh their iMac's soon and that I should have waited to buy.... Either way, I am happy with this purchase and hope to get very familiar with this OS. I must say that I am highly impressed with this iMac.

Updated iMacs were released a few weeks ago...I'm sure you purchased the newest version ( via Apple store ). Enjoy your new machine.

That's ok :) Hope it helps!

Like Imurdaddy (funny username lol) said, they were updated a few weeks back so you would have more than likely have the new one

----------

So after the Apple announcement, the Mac Pro starting price of £2,499 (with no display, keyboard or mouse) I confirmed what I thought in that it would be more cost effective to get an iMac.

Just ordered my 27" iMac with 512GB SSD, 3.5Ghz i7 Processor, GeForce GTX 780M 4GB DDR5...

...and placed a separate order for 32GB Kingston HyperX pnp CL9 DDR3 SoDIMM 1600mhz RAM!

So excited! 2-4 weeks wait until I get this beast though :0(

I just bought my very first Imac for the family. I would have liked to go for one of the top end models, but I ended up getting the ok to order this configuration:
27 inch
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
1TB Fusion Drive
Magic Trackpad
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X4GB
3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide

I hesitated with going with more storage, but I think I'll be fine, and I can't justify the i7 for my needs. I hope I've made a good choice because we keep our computers for 4-5 years. I've done a ton of reading on the forums, but then I second guess myself once the order is placed. Super excited to move from my PC laptop.

Same here. It would be the height of irony if one of the first things I did after turning it on (and migrating all my data) was to update the OS.
If your iMac comes pre-installed with OS X Mountain Lion I'd just format the drive, install a clean copy of OS X Mavericks and migrate your data afterwards.

If I recall from other macs you can not really tell what version is on until you log in, right? Is there any difference between migrating during the launch procedure and running it afterwards (aside from remembering to create a username not on my old mac)? Why not just run the updater after logging in and before the migration as you will have about as clean a system as you can get? [installing a clean copy would involve making bootable media and so on I assume so it can get to your boot partition and your recovery one]

Lmao here you guys are bickering about what version of OSX will appear on your macs. This is the least of my problems it's been over three weeks (October. 1) since I placed an order on my iMac and I still heard nada. I am about to sell my MacBook tomorrow for a customised 13" retina and I am waiting for a retina mini.

To put it simply if the IMac does not make a debut in my room by this week, for the first time in my life I will be without a computer,

For the next few days I will be using a iPhone for everything that is remotely internet related like these forums and so it begins, as I finish this last sentence on my iPhone.

I'm in that position...just in store purchased an iMac on Sunday. Going to do a simple update install over ML since the system is virtually unused with no conflicts.

how is the return process with Apple? i am still in the 14 day purchase window and thinking i will return the base iMac i got to the Apple store in order to purchase one with a fusion drive. i realize i will have to order that one and wait a bit, but think i made a mistake not getting a fusion drive. much thanks.

Right, except for typing a few things into the setup assistant like a username it would be pretty much a vanilla system. I can not think of any reason why an upgrade would be any different than a clean install at that point.

Immediately hold down cmd + R when starting up for the first time to get to the Recovery partition. If you see a mountain lion and a linnen background you're running OS X Mountain Lion. ;)

Not sure why you would settling with an "about as clean a system as you can get" if you can get a 100% clean system... In the end it's your own choice though, I know what I'll be doing with my new iMac.

Hey all

Just picked up a 27" 3.5 GHz i7 iMac, 8GB Memory (I'll upgrade to 16 in a couple of months) 3TB Fusion drive, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB.

Fired it up and within 5mins it advised me the Mavericks was available. When I chose to update it also said that the iWorks apps and iLife updates were available FOC. All smoothly done.

First Mac I've had since Leopard and its blindly fast so all seem sweet!!!:):)

Finally decided to get an imac after about 7 years of using MBPs. We decided to make a big change with our computer line up. We typically upgrade every 2-3 years and we were due for an upgrade and this time the imac caught my eye.
Currently have 1 17" MBP last model made. Wife has Late 2010 15"MBP. We recently bought the new MBA with bestbuys deal a couple months ago.
Plan is to sell a 27" thunderbolt display, and both our MBPs.
New line up will be 27" imac, haswell MBA and the new 13" retina.

I decided to max out the Imac.

I7
512gb ssd
24GB ram (upgrading myself)
4gb GPU

I'm not a gamer at all but I do a lot of photo work. I mostly did the gpu upgrade because I think it will make it easier to sell in a couple years. I hope I made the right choice but I figure a maxed system will make it more appealing down the road.

Order last Friday and it shipped today. Scheduled delivery this Friday. Can't wait!

Ordered last friday and shipped today??!! Mine was estimated at 2-4 weeks to dispatch

I've gone for a very similar spec but I am maxing out the RAM (I occasionally do video editing and animation so thought I might as well).

I'm guessing you are sticking another 16GB in and keeping the existing RAM? Remember it must have the same CAS Latency if you are mixing brands (I think Apple's RAM is CL11).

My original plan was to use Crucial for the RAM but the price is so high now, for an extra £30 I managed to get Kingston HyperX (CL9).

So the new iMac that was ordered for me on October 10th just arrived:

iMac
27-inch, Late 2013
3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
1 TB Fusion Drive

Bit surprised it shipped with OS X Mountain Lion. It was immediately prompted about OS X Mavericks and the new iWork and iLife suites though. Currently in the progress of updating.
