Don't stop now, you're on a roll. I'm enjoying this more than the late night comics.

"Man this is ONE BAD APPLE....." ***insert wild and raucous applause here*** "thanks, folks...I'll be here all week, be sure and tip your waitress! There's an app for that - oh wait, make sure you tip RIGHT-handed or you'll lose your signal, haha, ZING!!!" ***insert other loud and lavish audience praise sounds and people weeping for joy here***

Returned iPhone 4. Just purchased new black 32GB 3GS and synced. Phone calls - guess what? I can make then and receive them and don't lose any signal, yahoo!

Oh yeah and my iPhone 3GS doesn't slip off a remotely diagonal surface!
Oh yeah and my iPhone 3GS actually has a good sensor in it to detect when it's been pulled away from my face so I don't accidentally dial someone or beep numbers in their ear!
Oh yeah and my iPhone 3GS is more comfortable to hold!
Oh yeah and my iPhone 3GS doesn't lose signal when I hold it "wrong"!
Oh yeah and my iPhone 3GS always worked before I upgraded, and it still does!
Oh yeah and my iPhone 3GS luckily doesn't have any "non-issues" associated with it, THANKS MR. JOBS!!!

I am thinking of doing the exact same thing. The reception issue and the glass case being so fragile are a real concern for me.

A couple of the ATT stores in my area still have the 3GS models. Did you get yours from an ATT store or someplace else.

AT&T Store. I also got them to waive the restocking fee of $29.99. I bought a 32GB black 3GS for $199, and returned my iPhone 4 for $327.41 so I came out in the black, which always helps. And guess what? My iPhone 3GS WORKS!!! (Bonus.)

And my iPhone 4 works better than the 3GS that I had.

It seems that everyone's forgotten the teething problems that the 3Gs had, including a battery problem which was fixed with an OS update. My battery was dying within 4hours max with hardly any usage.

Thing is you all moan about these little faults that phones have, every phone has it, nothing's ever perfect and nothing will ever be released perfect, that's a fact of life.

I'm lucky I don't have this 'death grip' problem but the logical and reasonable explanation on that is common sense. If you block a conductor then the signal will stop, 'squeezing' stops it, so don't do it.

When the next phone comes out we'll forget about all of these problems and find yet more faults with the new version and this vicious circle will always happen, not everyone is easily pleased and like's to be 'satisfied' with the product they have.

Nice try. I am not even employing the death grip. I'm simply holding the phone in my hand, loosely, and the moment my skin happens to even remotely bridge the connection between the two antennas, whether intentionally or inadvertently, the signal begins to slowly dwindle and then die. Had this been a singular issue with this phone, I would have let it go and maybe placed a bit more faith in a firmware update. But this is a design flaw from the get-go...and there are multiple other issues on this phone that make it a no-brainer for a no-purchase. VERY happy I went back to the 3GS...and whaddaya know, I can use it as a phone too. Didn't know it could do that. :)

Thanks,

Trying to decide between 16 or 32 GB.

If the reception issue is really, really bad for you i can see returning the phone or going to a 3GS, and i suppose i'd do the same.

Thank god i have not experienced any reception issues however...because after having the 4 going back to the 3Gs would be like going back to the dark ages. I just couldn't do it unless i absolutely couldn't even make a freaking call. The 4 is such a major step forward with the camera, the screen, the faster processor, facetime etc....i would be really depressed to have to give all that up.

One thing though...although i believe the higher amount of complaints on screen cracks is due, at least in part, to the unparalelled popularity of the 4 over the other phones - they are still scaring me into potentially buying a bumper even though i much prefer naked. but i'll make that sacrifice if necessary to keep on enjoying this incredible, albeit flawed for some people, gadget.

Yeah, I was a bit bummed too. I really wanted the 4...but it needs a serious facelift and tummy-tuck first. Perhaps a little spackling and some napalm too. Then I'll buy again. Isn't it delicious how dependent we are on technology.

thats not true. I know people that get dropped calls when they have 5 bars.....ON THEIR 3GS.

Its just this instant that we can use to correlate short the antenna to a drop in gain on the antenna signal which could ultimately lead to lower signal and a higher probability of dropped connection. This reduced drop can be somewhat related to the "death grip" phenomenon. By no means are the two directly dependent or independent.

I would like the fail revoked please.

There is certainly a hardware defect . The phone should not consistently drop a call for being held. Apple made a mistake. You may be content with the situation, but others feel cheated.

if I return my phone...

1) I will return it when Apple gets more phones
2) I have the 16 gb and I want the 32 GB
3) Wait till they get more phones
4) I love the iPhone 4, SO amazing. I just want more space because I will need it

Bought two, one for me and one for the gf. Gf asked me to return hers pronto due to the antenna issue and went back to her 'trusty Berry Bold' + iPod Touch combo. She wasn't a big iPhone person anyway and Apple made the decision easy for her.

I'm also highly likely to returning mine if Apple don't do anything by the time my 14-day window abounds

What will i get next?...good question. I have no clue as of yet. Do i get Nexus One/Desire or do i stick to the tried/tested devil i knew (3GS)

We shall see.

I've also 80% returning mine if Apple don't do anything by the time my 14-day window abounds

I have three words in response for you:

THREE. GEE. ESS.

OK, let me think about that. Um....no. And here's why: ever since I upgraded to the iPhone 4, dropped reception and dropped calls, bad traction, the phone actually froze on me on Sunday night when I was simply checking mail...I've had EVERY SINGLE iPHONE and NONE of them have ever choked on me before...bad proximity sensor, less comfortable to hold, I apparently couldn't hold a phone the way I have held a phone since I was THREE, bluetooth loses connection, push notification doesn't work...COME ON DUDE! Blind? I went back to the 3GS, and, as luck would have it, all of the issues above are non-issues. Wait, where have I heard that before...

HOWEVER - I will give you kudos that your request for a "fail"-revocation was less curt and more polite than Mr. Jobs, therefore, fail-revocation granted.

Maybe your face is too greasy and it interferes with the antennae and the proximity sensor.

I've been debating whether keep my i4 or just deal with the issue. It's frustrating when my calls are dropped because I forget to hold the phone the "right way". However, I may just return it wait couple weeks for the fix and purchase a white i4.

Do it! Go on do it! I did, I now have absolutely no issues or "None Issues" with my iPhone4, I returned it to Apple Lakeside (UK) and got a full refund.

I just did an apple chat with "Jenna" from the apple store and she said that the iPhone has 30 days to return not 14

I knew I should have just gotten a Kin.

Just kidding, this phone rocks and I feel sorry for anyone dumb enough to downgrade to a 3GS this early. Yeah I can recreate the issue. No it doesn't really affect my ability to use it. The download/upload speeds are phenomenal and severely outclass the performance of the previous generations of iphones. When I'm on a call, I don't hold it in a way where I'm touching the bottom left corner so I don't drop calls. Basically this whole thing is a non issue to me and will be even more so in a few days when my bumper arrives.

Like I said, it doesn't impede my ability to access and send data MUCH MUCH faster than the 3G/3GS and that, for me, is the most important part about this phone. I'm a typical guy and I don't have long conversations on the phone. I haven't had a problem with dropping calls because I've been careful to hold it right. The call quality when you hold it right far outpaces performance of my old 3G in my house where signal can sometimes be spotty.

This phone is an upgrade in every single way imaginable to me, and I'm glad to have it. Maybe there will be a recall and I can get a brand new one in a month or two. That would be just fine for me. Hell, I might not even bother with a voluntary recall because this thing works so well.

There are now 2 iphone 3GSs in my house, 1 iphone 3G, and 1 iphone 4. My i4 whoops the **** out of the others in every way, even reception....
