They pulled them at the last minute (this morning). Whether that's because there were manufacturing issues with them or they didn't want to detract from the iPad's limelight I don't know. But I suspect the latter.
 
The Apple resellers were given the information about what the cost prices of the current models would be dropped to, so they can change their prices and margins accordingly. This ALWAYS happens a couple of days before brand new models are released so they can sell old ones. The information was sent out on 25th January.

This morning, got an email saying that actually they weren't dropping the cost prices but they would honour the prices they'd quoted for the rest of the week. Doesn't happen unless they've pulled something. Obviously resellers love it because they get a higher margin.
 
I'm curious as to what the drop in price would be on the old models?
Care to share Star Fish?

Did that include the MBA??!!
 
I can't tell you the exact figures, partly because I don't want to get fired and partly because I don't know them - they were changed on the work system and I didn't look when I had the chance, and now they've changed them back again. I will ask tomorrow if I can.

But the 17" ones were scheduled to have big write downs, some fairly good ones on the 15", and some minor drops to the 13". At a guess I'd say 17" was down $200ish for 500GB hard drive and 2.8GHz processor.

Conveniently fired.... sorry, but I can't quite believe on your word because we are on the Internet, anything is possible (including made up stories). So I need a proof (a picture or screenshot) of said emails or said markdowns

Sorry to be a pedant but I don't see the irony in this situation unless it was a job you initially felt like you would have died for to get. Anyhow back to topic....

Shame about the i5 MBPs. I have just convinced my wife I need to upgrade my 2.2 MBP which truth be told is still absolutely fine for my day to day computing.

Take that off man- it's not worth it. If people do not want to believe you then they don't have to. I believe you and from looking at your signature it looks like you work at Apple. I don't want you to get in trouble, and once its on the net, it can be reproduced faster than you think.

Yeah you're right. I don't work at Apple but I work for them.

Don't think you'll find it fun at all considering I'm not currently located in the US. Sorry to disappoint.

What is your freaking problem? Who is asking you to believe him, or even be on this thread anyways? You don't need to do a background check just because you don't believe him.
 
Proof

I don't need to see proof from star-fish - this is a rumors site after all and gaining factual info would just spoil the fun...
