I'll say this again, there are very little if any screens we look at that have a notch drop down in the top center of it.

I really hope they make the top bar match the color of the whatever bezel is being used.

No...no they're not.

I don’t know, I’d bet iOS would fly on Samsung hardware if ported to work on it. It’s crazy to me that brand new Samsung hardware is bested by year old iPhones in performance. I have to believe part of that is due to Android considering the specs of the Note 8, for example.

Yes but there is a lot
You're upset about the Xiaomi Note 3, aren't you? :D
They should release their stuff over here then I'd get to see if it's any good or not. There are bad copies and there are good copies. However having choice is a good thing. Compared to the Asian market we are limited and behind.

Yea they’re the one I couldn’t remember. It’s crazy how they get away with it. But yea Samsung has been great lately with design and puts out really great hardware. They’re just hampered by Android.
I think it's ok in Asia. They won't get sued. However they wouldn't dare (Xiaomi) bring out anything in the US/Europe.

Looks like there won't be any room for battery percentage... then again they removed it from all Macbooks which I really didn't like.

Why? We could combine forces so Apple employees that come to this forum can see our collective rationale and discussion.

I agree with your observation that the notification bar has to be in black, so that it blends in with the rest of the status bar. Timing pressure shouldn't have been a thing, unless they literally realized how far Samsung and other vendors have come, and despite setting on a lot of money, there are 'cooler' phones out there. Apple realizing they need to leapfrog is great, though it is a bit disappointing to see that they've failed to execute. Mobile operating systems I think still have a long way to go, theres a lot more that can be done to make things more usable, more interesting, and even things Apple could learn from Android ecosystem. Then again, all that is really an aside...

Today we see China Xiaomi making phones that do NOT have a bezel cutout, and it looks great and has InfinityEdge. If Apple wants to deviate using the cutout, they better have some way to showing how that can be better than a "more screen" design. If you look at the mockups of the Xiaomi, it looks like the bezel at the top where the camera might actually look thinner than the bezel cutout at the top of the iPhone X... if that ends up being the case, that would be very sad.

No iPhone X, all talk is iPhone 8. This makes a lot of sense for them to not release the iPhone X, it needs to go back to the drawing board. This supports the fact that the bezel design makes no sense. What was leaked were probably engineering research prototypes.

Wow. Shooting a bit early there, ain'tcha? I'll work up a tl;dw for you later on. ;)

What is sad is they still didn't show how it would work if you have GPS and Bluetooth enabled, where are those indicators going to go? They are seriously going to let us as consumers pay at least $999 for the product to find out for ourselves?

So these people have an opportunity to have a FIRST LOOK at the phone, and no one bothers to try to enable bluetooth or location services to show us how that impacts the status bar? Apple should have MacRumors get hands on time with the phone, I am sure a MacRumors reporter would actually try that status bar stuff out we've all be complaining about.

Any videos out there of a first look with how the status bar looks with bluetooth and location services turned on yet?

This new desing is blowing my mind out... it's hideus, I can't believe Apple get this solution to the screen.

Personally I think the cutout on top looks like crap. But I have obviously not seen it in person. I am hoping all the reports are wrong and there is no cutout.

I also don't like the cutout, it ruined the edge to edge display. I like the looks of edge to edge display in s8+

Yes the top cutout on iPhone X is a deal breaker.

It's a dealbreaker for me. Looks ridiculous. I don't want the hardware encroaching on my screen.

Also, if you watch the keynote, it looks like there's a bar below the status icons - is that because there's not enough room to display all the icons?

During the leak season , someone on Youtibe has posted the cool animation on the left and right of the cutout.
