It is what the camera does that matters. I don’t spend my time looking at the back of the phone and would normally put down face up, so I see notifications

The off center camera lens was ok when it was a small single lens. The iPhone X was already pushing the boundary of good design with the off center vertical double stack. This giant off center square just doesn’t look good. Just my opinion of course - but I’m wondering if this has anything to do with Ives departure...

Ultimately if you need to upgrade then it is what it is, but I’m perfectly happy to wait another year for the rumored features of next years model (type c, faster refresh rate, no notch)

yep. I don’t really get all the ones who are complaining. Heck I’m one of the few who doesn’t use a case and think the phone looks fine. I’m more interested in performance.

While it might not be the "best looking phone".....I do think there is an adjustment period.
When the "notch" was released, there cries of how awful it was, etc. People stated how horrible the phone looked.

Now, people have adjusted to it. It doesn't look out of place. I think this new "bump" when go through the same sort of adjustment cycle.

Once the novelty wears off & people get used to it, I don't think the look of the phone will have this type of reaction.

Wow, what a hideous beast.

Sure they may be the most powerful iPhones or smartphones ever made but their design is quite an eye sore, mainly due to the obtrusive ugly camera housing. There is now not one camera bump, but THREE separate camera bumps on top of the main camera housing bump. These bumps and grooves will collect dust, grime, dirt, and other crap like no tomorrow! Slapping on a case doesn't excuse lazy design!

Even the iPhone X/XS looks better than the 11 Pros because it has only one camera bump and flush sensors.

Just look at this thing:

I'm not scared of spiders but after seeing the 11 Pros, I am now. For comparison:

It's funny, because I love that green pic. My wife and I are both getting the green. Think my son is, too.

Yes, yes, the iPhones and their ugly camera bumps get worse and worse. Yet, the iPhone XR continues to soar, as does the dinosaur of an 8, and even the XS Max. Yet, not one android flagship made the top 10.

No matter how much design matters to one, it may not matter to the other. With this new square bump, it’s yet another way to distinguish the newest iPhone from the rest of the lot. And while some may try and say ‘those people don’t exist anymore’, they do....in droves. They just don’t live in the forums.

It wasn't pushing the boundary of 'good design'. It was pushing the boundary of design you would prefer (we all have our preferences, after all).

It could be argued that a camera bump on the side of the phone allows the phone to be more usable when placed on a flat surface. It might be tilted slightly, but it's more stable than if the bump was in the middle of the phone where it would rock quite seriously no matter where you touched the phone.

It looks fine and I don't care how ugly you think the back looks....just like 99% of people in real life won't care.
Care so much that you went out of your way to post about it. Also, even though the poll on this thread is an extremely small sample size of Apple users, the results are pretty polarizing and at the time of this post people are almost equally for and against the iPhone 11 Pro being the ugliest iPhone ever made. Just something to consider.

Really puts things into perspective, people are suffering in the Bahamas after Dorian and here people are complaining about a coupe of camera bumps.
Yikes. Great job on completely twisting this discussion and bringing up something completely irrelevant (yet still important no doubt) to force your narrative. Don't lose your sleep over someone else's opinion on the internet.

Just because people got used to and settled to a design decision (like the notch, camera bumps, lack of headphone jacks, etc) doesn't mean that these decisions or omissions aren't any less important. It's just that people deal with what's given to them even if it's bad. Millions of people love iPhones and I'm sure no matter what design decisions Apple ever makes whether good or bad, these same people wouldn't flinch and still purchase their products.

Sure people settled to the notch, and sure people will deal with the camera bumps, but they're lazy design decisions that could've been implemented better. In terms of design, Android phones are really killing it lately and Apple should take some notes from them, like the Note 10.

I stopped buying iPhones for aesthetics a long time ago. As long as I can plug and play and keep my flow going I don’t care what the back looks like.
As long as you enjoy the device your using that’s all that matters. If it’s the 8, XR, XS Max whatever.
If the 3 camera deal bothers a user don’t get it. It’s really that simple.

Yes, many people lay their phones down. And?
Did you miss the part about it being face down? Lots of people like to say that the back is never seen. It's hard to believe when the majority of people lay their phone face down.

Are you saying you'll take a glance at the iPhone 11 in public and look away in disgust like you just saw vomit? That's more on you, as, like I will reiterate, 99% of people will not care one way or other about the camera bumps.
"As if I saw vomit?" No, but then I'm not getting the iPhone 11. I haven't bought an iPhone since 2015, with the 6s+. I've been waiting the last four years for Apple to remove the bump. It hasn't happened. My 6s+ though, I might add, I do not like for the camera bump and the antenna lines but went with anyway because at the time we were porting to a new carrier and I was replacing a 6+. THAT iPhone I had, not because I wanted it, but because I was extracting recompense from Sprint for years of crappy data and service.

In any case, I've already upgraded (not iPhone) this year anyway.

They major news media needs to report on SOMETHING, and since they can't find anything else about the phone to complain about, well, they had to pick something subjective in order to complain about.
And the excuse for why the media never really mentioned the camera bump on the 6s and the 6s+, the 7 and 7+, the 8 and 8+, the X, the XS and the XR?

If mentioning the camera bump now is subjective reporting because there is nothing else to complain about, then failing to mention it with all the previous models means they had a legit reason in covering something else about them. Careful…

Really puts things into perspective, people are suffering in the Bahamas after Dorian and here people are complaining about a coupe of camera bumps.
Ah yes. Since I do not rise to your standard of morality, it doesn't matter if I have valid points or not. You win because you are simply a better person than I am.

I think it’s very subjective. I don’t think the designs are patently ugly. However, I am not a fan of the camera sensor arrays of the 11 models AT ALL. I wish they went with a single, horizontal sensor array on the back. Those blatantly visible circular sensors look like eyeballs to me, and I don’t want to own any of these models simply based on that. But that’s just my opinion.

I think it actually looks really nice, especially compared to the crap renders we were getting from the mock ups for cases. It is going to grow on me, but more importantly I don't care what my camera module looks like I care how well it performs.

The big square just bugs me to death.
To death??

So whilst in an unrelated conversation someone says to you 'at least you've got your health', you'll respond by saying 'I don't even have that, the iPhone 11 Pro's killing me'...

No it's not. You need to just imagine the atrocity behind the phone whilst social media'ing on the front 99.9% of the time. :D

Agree. The worst part is the 3 sensors that stick out ABOVE the camera bump. Just as the OP stated, it will collect dirt and debris. I mean, why have a camera bump at all? Just flush it down and have 3 silos sticking out.
That being said- I could care less how the camera looks and care everything about how it performs. I’ve pre-pre ordered 2 of them.

There's no way to have a wide, super wide and telephoto lens in one zoom lens that wouldn't stick out 1-1/2". Since that's never gunna happen, the only way to get three focal length lenses and stay relatively flat is to have three separate lenses — so here we are.

If the appearance of the back of the phone is more important than camera functionality, use one of the older single lens phones. Everything about the 11Pro is geared towards the camera. If you don't want a fancy camera, buy a different phone.

No worth the upgrade but they beautiful I just think next year iPad Pro design gonna be 100 times better

Yeah, for those who need something to hate on or complain, it was the notch the last two years.

Now, it's the camera hump, which will be a nothingburger as soon as the phone comes out.

More like the iPhone 11 Pro is a nothing burger. I suspect that Apple will not sell nearly as many “Pros” compared to the regular iPhone 11. For hundreds of dollars less you can get a phone that doesn’t look like a mutated tumor. I can’t wait until 2020.

1. Completely illogical and out of context.
2. And if you’re so concerned, what have you done/are doing about it? Last I checked, you’re still here bashing someone else’s opinion (which they’re completely entitled to have/express in the first place)

Please don’t pretend to be better than the rest of us.
