I just wanted to chime in and say I agree with the OP and that there needs to be a separate sectoin for Android related stuff.

Or an "iPhone Only" subforum, for posters who have real questions about the iPhone and don't want their thread to devolve into an iOS v. Android debate. Any such posts would be deemed off-topic trolling and deleted. It would be interesting over time to see where people choose to start their threads....

The other option I see is a "Smartphone Advocacy" subforum, but the definitional lines would be tougher to draw.

Hmmm. Has the tide turned in favor of a competition forum???

I can't comment on the actual fix, but we have decided what to do and that should become visible in a matter of days. This is MacRumors after all, feel free to rumor about the change for the time being. I heard from a reliable source that Arn is totally going to delete the iPhone forum because it creates us so much work

;) :p

Doesn't sound right. I heard they were moving the real iPhone forum into the private forums. Only people who donate can be there, while the regular iPhone one turns into "devices with cellular antennas"

Why on earth would you make the iPhone forum the sub forum on an Apple centric forums? lol.

Nice to hear that its at least being looked at. As with anything, we wont know how well the 'fix' will work until its tried. whatever that fix may be.

It's the same experience on various video game forums. Somebody quits the game but continues to revisit the forum on a quest to express how much more fun they are having playing the new game. But in truth, they are unable to adjust to being the smallest fish in the fish bowl again and return to their comfort zone.

Same psychology applies here.

Looking forward to the change even though I have no idea what it is :)

I come here because I have little interest in any other brand. This is the last place i'd look for tips on Android unless its "How do I sync my android device to my Mac" etc.

These vs threads are getting old.

People come here because they own Apple products. Those people likely also own non-Apple products and wish to discuss them with their (Macrumors) online community.

Banning talk of non-Apple products will just force users elsewhere and will likely be to the overall detriment of the site (and its advertising revenue).

Apple aren't the company they used to be - they're more mainstream and are in a more competitive market. This forum needs to reflect that to stay popular or risk becoming a small group of bitter, blinkered Apple fans.

Hahaha.... so the rumor on the street is that MacRumors will once again be MacRumors! ;)

No more iDevice forum to be found here people - now discuss! :p

where is the "down vote" button when you need it :p

Well, it doesn't matter given the announcement that a fix is coming, but the forum is an iPhone forum in name only, which is sort of the point of the thread.

the forum is an iPhone forum in name only

Sorry you have lost me a little now. You suggested that the iPhone forum become the sub forum rather than the other way around. Then you say the forum is an iPhone forum in name only?

Im not sure what point you are trying to make but I think I am missing it completely

Last time I checked an iPhone forum would be about iPhones, an Android forum would be about Androids and a general smartphone forum would be for all types of phones.

----------

I guess you're one of the bitter, blinkered Apple fans I mentioned.

Blinkered and bitter? A person chooses an iPhone because they like the way it works and enjoys using it. Who's blinkered and bitter? LOL

Now a person using a rival smartphone coming to an iPhone forum and getting all angry and upset when people arent impressed by the latest quadruple core 10" plastic korean brick. Who is blinkered and bitter again?

Far too much logic in this post.

...SNIP...

I was responding to the posts that suggested MR would not do what you outline above and that MR has some institutional resistance to big changes. My suggestion of a simple "iPhone only sub-forum" was a less-intrusive-to-the-current-forum-structure alternative to what you propose above.

No need to be sorry. :D

Many of you know how I feel about this issue (since I am, apparently, a 'broken record'). I hope the solution referred to above is a iOS/iPhone versus alternatives sub-forum or a general mobile phone sister site where people can debate the pro's and con's of different phones to their heart's delight.

On the whole I just want to visit this site without having my intelligence insulted by somebody calling me a fanboy because I own an iPhone, and I think having a sandbox for iOS/Android/WP debates would help (and also perhaps be an apt metaphor).

Oh you dont need to tell me about the resistance to change, I kinda spotted that :D

Hiya mods,

Any word on the supposed 'fix' you have been considering for the iPhone forums?

Only reason I ask is because I have just been in there and it's still filled with the same amount of negative, anti-apple filled venomous hate as it has been for a while now.

You know the kind of thing, preaching of the Android word, getting angry when people don't agree on a so called apple forum, throwing out stats and specs left and right, the constant need to one up any iPhone owner who dares to suggest that they are enjoying their phone, and various other kinds of general negativity.

Any update would be appreciated, it's like a school playground in there, my dads bigger than your dad :p

One final check is needed and then it should be all set. I'm not responsible for that so don't ask me, but I'm pretty confident it will go live this week. Maybe even tomorrow.
