That's not true. We have discussed this before .
I'm not saying there shouldn't be rules etc. and I abide by them. But to hide behind freedom of speech to allow all this hate in the iPhone forums and others to a lesser extent is a slap in the face of the writers of the constitution.

How is it a slap on the face?

Fair enough, fair enough... However there is a Console Games subforum under the Mac & PC Games forum, so why not an Other Smartphones subforum under the iPhone forum?

Because Apple has no Console Game machine? I mean, it is under other Interests of the Community. Also, when it comes to computer games, we know everyone has preferences.

There is one more thing that is publicly visible- the actual post. It's not a matter of the person being handed a time-out or ban, but when I have specifically pointed out posts where blanket name-calling is apparent and nothing is changed over a day later, it's clear that nothing has/ will be done.

Again, there is nothing I can say because I'm not aware of the specific case you are talking about. Please send a contact and admins wil review the case, I cannot step on the toes of my fellow mods.

I find it easier to send a copy of the post to the mods... or I sometimes put in the message field

"This will end bad" That normally takes care of it in 2 minutes.

my only problem with the iPhone forums is the general feeling of hostility there, i mean there is a hostile feeling all over the place these days, buts its a lot worse there.

I have come to realize the truth behind the iPhone forums. It is the new users who tend to be über zealous new comers and want to fit it. They think it is all about loving and worshipping Apple. Hence we get a clash between the new comers and the already settled users.

Think of it as hot and cold air... it brews a storm.

It's all about cellphone comparisons.

Apple v. [ insert android handset manufacturer name ] .

It goes way back to Linux v. other operating systems or free v. protected....

Two different mindsets. And they often clash.

cue i use both retorts..

:)

Its different this time around...

Much different.

As I said in another thread:
For a short while, the iPhone was the most technologically advanced phone out there and millions flocked to it - expecting Apple to always be the top, cutting edge devices. The problem is that, while Apple is the most advanced in many avenues, their products in general are not always the fastest.

I believe it's those people who are the ones causing the most complaints... because they finally realized that Apple doesn't operate the way they think they should.

People buying Apple computers don't buy them because they're the fastest around or the cheapest.

It's those users who are now either feel lied to by Apple and are doing whatever they can to degrade it for everyone or they feel like they have to put on blinders, proclaim that Apple is still #1 and fight to the death defending it.

In the past, during the Mac vs. [insert OS or PC manufacturer of choice] battles, it was generally assumed that the Mac wasn't going to be the cheapest or fastest. People chose to use it because it was simply what worked best for their needs... a choice that is now being dismissed as blind devotion.

In the end, nobody wins. The bickering continues - with Android followers seemingly outnumbering the iPhone users here, the 'anti-Apple' sentiment is at an all time high, those who support Apple are being mocked, and there is little to no actual discussion on the future iPhone or helping others.

I am pro "other smart phones" section. I use a Mac (which is why I belong to MacRumors) but I am also am Android user (I like to mess with and customize my phone, but my computer needs to work no matter what. Which is why I chose a Mac) If I have a problem with my Mac and Android phone not working together (or if I want to develop or need help) I can't always get what I need at XDA. People over there (and I mean this is the nicest way) are Windows fans. Which is necessary for flashing utilities like Odin that are just not make for OS X. It sucks because I prefer my Mac and I would rather not have to go to my PC (which is rarely used apart from Andy related stuff)

If we had a section here, it should only be for people who have a Mac and android phone/tablet. It should not be compared to XDA as it will only be used for Mac related things (and I suppose people can bash iOS users there too, which I see no point in other than to remedy your boredom)

To the person who said the stuff about apple not having a gaming console, your post doesn't make sense:

1) Pippin. Nuff said.
2) you used the fact of apple not having a gaming console as an excuse to have a console gaming section. Apple doesn't have an Android phone, so by your thinking MacRumors should have an "other smart phones" section.
3) I could have misunderstood your post. And I don't even know if MR has a Console gaming forum. (I only play Guitar hero and rock band )

Because Apple has no Console Game machine? I mean, it is under other Interests of the Community. Also, when it comes to computer games, we know everyone has preferences.

I would think that a lot of people who own Apple products are interested in other smartphone platforms, myself included. And yes, everyone has preferences - Some might prefer Android to iOS, but still use other Apple products, and therefore want to hang here. I know if I got an Android phone I'd want to stay here and discuss Android rather than take it to another forum :)

I don't beleive that Android followers are outnumbering iPhone users here, although there are a lot of Android users. To me its seems like it because of the way both camps behave in that forum, a lot of iPhone users prefer not to post or comment in the topics.

I for one feel that way.

Mac vs PC is a bit different because it's not only a matter of opinion. For example, if your main use for a computer is to play games, then a PC is really a better option, or at least you should consider one. In such case, I find it completely valid to recommend a PC, even though this is an Apple related forum. Of course, you should be reasonable and not call someone an "iSheep" because he's considering a Mac for gaming. I've recommended PCs for people in here dozens of times but I also completely understand if someone prefers a Mac (for the record, I have a desktop PC and a MacBook Air).

With phones, it's different. You can do pretty much the same stuff with iOS and Android, it's purely a preference. Sure, Android has more offerings in terms of hardware and there are phones that beat iPhone in performance but the spec game is not as important with phones as it is with computers (you can't upgrade any phone in terms of hardware for instance).

That doesnt make much sense IMO.
When Im at the iphone section Im interested in iphone talk, not discussion about other platforms or android.
And if I got a different phone I'd go to a forum that specializes in details about that particular phone model not somewhere that the forum has nothing to do with my product.
That's like going to a BMW car forum and wanting to talk about how great my Mercedes is....

What if you own both a mercedes and a BMW..

LMAO:D
That would be great but it would make sense to discuss or ask questions on the right forum.
Kinda like the red sox and new york yankees fans thing. You go to one forum to talk about the other you will get bad remarks and everyone will flame you.
Unless you want to go there and start a flame fest and troll IMO.

So, do we just want a Smartphone/Android sub-forum so all the Android vs iPhone threads can be consolidated there?

Oh god yes please! Then I never have to go in there!

At the moment it's depressing to come here when all I see here are posts trying to make me feel bad about my choice of smartphone :/

do it arn, let's make the iPhone forum about the iPhone once again! :)

It's going to take a lot of work to keep everything there, and not "migrating" back to the iphone forum.

Any that 'slip the net' so to speak could be reported by other users. At the moment though its pointless trying to report anything as its an absolute free for all in there.

Also I agree with what was posted above, the tone IS very anti apple. What's happening is that certain people have a massively compelling need to spread the Android word in the hope of converting iPhone fans. Because they are being left to freely do this its getting worse and worse. Other times I see thread titles that are clearly (thinly) disguised trolling posts.

Oh and on a final note, if something isnt done this kind of behaviour will explode when iOS6 and the new iPhone are launched, and the forum will become even more unbearable. I can see it now "omg the new iphone isnt even as powerful as the sgs3!!!1" and "the new feature X was in android years ago" etc.

I know. It's just going to take a lot of work. Everyone's going to think that their comparison or outrage belongs in the iphone forum, because they're bashing the iPhone. That, or we are going to have both "camps" so to speak arguing and insulting each other in the two forums. There just isn't any way for either group to "win".

(Wow..I think I managed to use all three "There"s in one post...)

Ah but the cool thing is, you never have to venture into the subforum where the festering angry iPhone haters reside :D
