The iPhone Nano Mock-up/Concept thread

Look don't get me wrong now... and I'm not saying my concepts are better... but please please please make it look like an Apple product. Imagine you as an industrial designer proposing this product to Steve.... OR WHATEVER JUST MAKE IT LOOK LIKE AN APPLE PRODUCT. Apple is about complexity presented in a simple way.

I would have prefered you use a black background instead of the butterfly. If you want to make concepts in a more apple fasion, use the font Lucidia Sans (google it).

I understand what you are saying and if you look at my former mockups you can see i also used black backgrounds... but i'm just trying this, and yes i should use lucidia sans or myriad pro in stead but myriad is not in gimp and i'm not sure about lucidia, i used luxi sans always except this time i used arial narrow,

Those of you insisting that it the Nano will maintain touch screen capability are missing the entire point of offering a less featured model.

#1 This product will be geared toward the younger market. This is not a MAYBE. They will not release an iPhone nano with adults in mind. Are we aware of how many 13-19 year olds carry a cellphone and an iPod nano? The numbers would stagger you. Which leads into number 2...

#2 This will be 1 device to combine the younger market's cellphones and ipods. The touch screen is not the incentive to buy...this factor is the incentive to buy.

#3 A touch screen would never jive with the 13-19 year old market. They can't handle it. It will be trashed within hours, or days. Apple would either be replacing every lother one they sold, or be pissing off a lot of customers who (or whose children) broke or signifcantly injured their phones within a very short amount of time.

here is a quick mockup i did based on some of the others seen in this thread. Expect full use (and maybe some new implementation) of the clickwheel, along with navigation that looks very much like the iPhone, but feels very much more like the iPod:

(p.s. I changed the SMS icon to blue because i view those as top 2 functions for younger cell phones and 2 green icons looked bleh)

Nice job. I think this one is the most realistic.

That's exactly the case. I liked ur previous ones more since they looked a little more realistic. If you want a better look on lucidia sans, enable font smoothing in Windows and u'll get your effect. Anyway hopefully your next mockup will look like ur previous ones with those Apple look displays.

I never used Gimp so I can't answer you. HAHA I don't even know what that is (software of course). I use photoshop... but I'm no expert at it. Anyway my next concept is going to look a little odd....

i made a new mockup with some better graphics and with a second menubar that shows the date or something else and it's transparent and changes to the background.

So after looking around the thread, I saw a couple people reference the idea that you could use voice recognition to create your text messages. I guess that's a little confusing to me. Isn't test messaging most useful when you can't talk?

Don't get me wrong, some of those mockups look damn sexy, but I doubt this will ever be the direction that they will go with a phone. I'm not saying that they are going to make another (cheaper) multi-touch phone, either. I'm just saying that the click wheel is far too limited of an interface device to be used for dialing numbers, let alone pounding out messages.

I found lucidia sans in gimp nd it almos just looks like myriad pro, and for the font smoothing , i din't have a windows i work on mac we have 3 macs at home at are gonna buy the newest one, can't wait too see that... i'm gonna buy photoshop probably in sometime but still gonna wait a while, thaks for the help, next mockup coming up n some days if i have time..

This thread is for iphone nano concept not for ipod touch concept, and i saw that too it's from the 9to5mac.com ipod touch concept art contest. its a little bit fat, imo

I really don't think Apple will throw an iMac design on to the rumored "
iPod touch" or the iPod nano (should there be such product).

wow...how wrong you are....the reason the iPod is succesful is because how easy to use it is.....its software is what makes the iPod so succesful. all the other mp3 players software is pathetic.

-No Internet watsoever (Safari, google maps, etc)
I'm a teenager and i have just a sony erricson and i have never felt the urge to use the internet on my phone, nor has any of my friends

-Finder - Instead of having a "Photos" app, just have finder. i can't people are still putting the "photos" app on these mockups. it will have a "finder" app which will store all the files. you use these files for bluetooth file sharing, putting ringtones on putting your own photos on.

and i wouldn't use a finder because it's really better with photos, when you click on finder you first need to click on photos before you have them and on photos you just click and have, i don't agre with that.

mate, the MAIN reason it would have afinder is to share files betweek people using bluetooth...the iPhone needs some sort of file management to share and recieve using bluetooth and to attach to emails.....i am AMAZED that the iPhone doesn't have this and how little people have asked about it.....it could still be the same way as the photos app works...once you click on Photos it would all be the same setup as it is currently except it would have a little back arrow at the top to go to the previous folder......i'm telling you now mate, it is very muchy needed.

what happens when you RECEIVE photos and music files etc...how do you access them and view them.....?? and i also believe that if there was a iPhone nano i believe it wouldn't have a click wheel...it would be all touchscreen...this whole idea of a clickwheel is because it is called an iPhone NANO.....

when you receive a file there just comes like a red bar were stands receiving a file press menu for accept or play/pause to ignore, actually i don't believe in full touchscreen iphone nano i believe it still with a clickwheel, or there won't be an iphone nano...

It's possible and i think apple will invent something that works, i do agree with you that when your making an email you should be able to search a file and not vice versa that you open the file in photos and then click send as attachment with email, but i don't think you really need a finder. that would be a step backwards to like windows mobile.

i believe it would take away the whole idea of apple products always being "locked"....you can actually rearrange stuff inside the phone without plugging it into the computer, you have freedom. music inside the iPod is always locked, photos are always locked....the most freedom apple has given so far is the ability to delete movies off the iPhone once you have watched it and also the ability to rate songs.....that is the most freedom apple has given so you can edit things inside their products.
