People keep having pics of what they think an iPhone nano would look like but they all do the same thing wrong. Almost every concept I have seen has the same exact features as the regular iPhone. If Apple is going to charge 2-300 dollars less for the Nano, it is going to have less features than the normal iPhone. The Nano should only have 2gigs of storage and it should not have certain features that iPhone has such as the YouTube widget, Stocks Widget, and Maps widget. The Nano would sell if it was the iPod, Safari, Mail, and the other simple widgets alone. The loss of features and storage is what should create the lower price, not the size of the phone alone.

I can understand all of your comments, and that's why the Multi-Touch screen in the iPhone Nano does not offer the same amount of capabilities as the iPhone. Same with the widget applications, missing OS X Mail, etc. Actually come the think of it, maybe I should lower the camera specs too.

Things to make a phone appeal to a younger market:
- Lower Prices
- Smaller Size and Good Looking Phones
- Texting Capaibility (fast, but without the need of a physical Qwerty Keyboard since it makes phones look ugly [except for Sony Ericsson P1i])
- Blogging and Sharing Capaibilies (hence the "no strings attached Bluetooth v2", allowing fast file transfers between phones)
- Music Player
- Camera

That's all I can think of and most of this is included in the iPhone Nano... maybe not the lower price. I can only see a $100 cheaper than the iPhone if we were to use my concept. I'm desiging/thinking about another one too.

Forgive me if I sould defensive. I don't mean it that way...

i totally agree, apple should take your suggestions

hi back, my friends are now away, it was a nice week, but i'm back macster, and i saw the new imac, wow baby nice design but not a big difference with the former but still impressed and the imovie and garageband... ouch, man they're nice.... but now i have time for new mockup, it's actually based on the new imac with aluminium and glass, and like the menubar in leopard that changes with a new background, the icons in the iphone nano concept change color depending on the background, and i show two versions, the on how it would like when you buy it in the shop and the one when you customize it... i toke on purpose only 1 and 2 GB version too make it smaller than the normal iphone and so the iphone could be a lower priced device for people who just want too call, sms, have photos, videos and music with them... here's it:

While i agree that most of the widgets would not be included, i do however believe that the YouTube widget would stay, this nano phone would be targeted at the teen market and they love YouTube and the stupid antics that it involves, so i reckon that that specific widget would stay.

Anyway My design: iPod nano for size ideas

This would still cost alot, because too se youtube or websites you'll need EDGE, or higher, and the phone would still cost alot, look at my design, i think it would just have phone, sms, maybe a camera, photos, video and music but only in 1 and 2 GB versions.

I am a teen and I love YouTube videos... but I can tell you that I wouldn't watch it as much on the iPhone as I would on the computer. Adding to the fact that adding a YouTube widget is just going to make the phone as expensive as the iPhone itself. That will make the phone as expensive as the iPhone itself.

The Mail App is another one that wouldn't be used much. We like SMS not email. I hardly use my email now other than signing on MSN.

Safari is also another App that wouldn't be used. I would not advise just removing it completely, but have a much more scaled down verison, one that just works enough.

Also, I would not like a nano sized phone. Just way too small. And the screen should be a lot larger since it would be hard to read SMS messages with it.

I've attached iPhone icons should they want to include them in their concept. Unfortunately, I do not have a YouTube icon since this App wasn't included in the original iPhone. If anyone has a high quality one, if he/she doesn't mind, uploading here? =)

Thanks for putting the icons online, it saves some work on GIMP... tomorrow i'm gonna make a new mockup based on my former one, i know it's amateur work but i really like making them and learning how to, i have learned alot in this thread, and with making mockups the last weeks, and how to improve... macster when is your next mockup coming???

my iPhone nano

heres my iPhone nano and size comparison with the current iPhone. The bar on top would display the information (time, cell phone provider, signal, wifi etc.)
THe apps are SMS, Camera (both front and back + PhotoBooth effects), Clock, Settings, Phone (normal calling and video calling) and iPod.

It's gonna be an iphone nano but i has two cameras?? than it wouldn't be an iphone nano, it would have to cost too much too be an iphone nano i would just take one camera at the back..

Apple is known for its stunning original design.

They're not going to grab an iPod nano and smack an iPhone screen on it. That's what half the concepts for the original iPhone were -- iPod designs with phone features on them. Silly.

iPhone nano. Just when you thought your phone can't get smaller

this is my iPhone nano. Thanks for MetaSage for his mockup of which my one is based on..

that small grey thing on the bottom of the iPhone nano is a little sensor that you can use gestures to do stuff like

tap 2x - bring back to home menu
tap and hold -sleep mode
left to right - bring up lock menu slider bar thing
right to left (when sleep mode) - open up the unlock menu slider bar thing

buttons on the left and right same as previous iPhone.
the top, speaker jack and bluetooth sensor
bottom, speaker and mic

sensors
- Accelerometer
- Proximity
- Ambient Lighting

Nice mockuping work, i really like the fact that the phone has a little sensor that can detect taps or slides! good idea.
