Back from a break. Had an emergency call whilst away:

"Wicard, wicard"
"Slowdown"
"Wildcard, this week, apology, find Internet connection."

A lot of bloody good that did! Sank with Tilpots in the Saha boat. Curse you Moyes:mad::)

Cheers,
OW

Why the hell did Saha not start, anyway? Thought he was their guy. At least it makes my transfer decision easier.

What's happened with the Cup?
Truth be told, I don't know. I blame Saha.

As mentioned previously, I set everything up with the Cup to start in Gameweek 1. Nothing happened though – no fixtures generated or anything – and the start date in the admin panel reset itself to no date given. So I made sure everything was set up once again for a Gameweek 2 start... and the same has happened.

Another head-to-head league I'm in had the same Gameweek 1 problem but started okay in Gameweek 2, but I heard from a friend that one of his head-to-head leagues is having the same problem as ours – it won't start itself up.

Hopefully, third time lucky this upcoming Gameweek – although if it's still botched I have a contingency plan up my sleeve on how to stage a knock-out competition that doesn't rely on the Premier League site. We'll see what happens, but sorry about the false starts chaps.

^^^ If you promise to throw your game when I play you, then I can forgive you ;)
Hey, this isn't the MacRumors Fantasia Campionato di Calcio, you know. :p ;)

Anyway, a quick update as our second week draws to a close...

xUKHCx's Bushey Fighters top the pile at this early stage, so well done to him. And a welcome as well to two new teams, Tommo's Terriers and Keta All Stars – their admission to the League brings us up to 25 competitors.

As per previous seasons I'll be locking the League to newcomers on 31st August, so there's still a little time for any stragglers to get their names down.

The MacRumors Cup seems to be up and running.
Indeed, the Cup is finally underway! Apologies again for the problems getting the competition sorted.

Here's the first set of fixtures then...

Omaha Latics v Fizzy's Flyers
Thigh High Socks v Sporting Dual-Cores
The Stoplights v Telford Blues
Renfrew Meerkats v Fightin' Shrooms
FFM v Fabulous Boyz
Nieval's Angry Mob v Cleveland AFC
Bayern Bru v No Value
Bushey Fighters v Neutron Heath
Rugby United v Woodsmoor Wanderers
AFC MacRumors v Brainerd FC

As the more observant amongst you may have noted, we have an odd number of teams taking part in the Cup this year – 19. To make sure that we each have a head-to-head fixture each Gameweek, another team is automatically added to the competition.

This team doesn't have a manager, or any players - each week it simply scores the Gameweek average number of points. I'm sure an astute bunch of managers like us will have no problems in bettering the average score. :p

Anyway, taking on AFC MacRumors (that's Average Football Club) this first week are last year's defeated Cup finalists Brainerd FC. Good luck pivo6 – don't let us down. ;)

There are still a couple of days left in August, but as the Premier League pauses for the international break (and leaves us with our fingers crossed that our stars return unscathed) I may as well take this opportunity to announce the season's first MacRumors Manager of the Month.

His Mob may be angry, but I hope that Nieval's mood is a little cheerier right now. And so it should be – with an unmatched tally of 198 points for the month, it's he who receives the award after an impressing showing by the Angry Mob.

Well done Nieval. :)

Looking at the table, it's no surprise to see Nieval at the summit.

The final match of the month really turned things on its head, as Manchester United tore apart Arsenal in humiliating fashion for the Gunners. The pairing of Rooney and Young seems to be a popular one for a number of our managers, and as the two players racked up five goals, four assists and five bonus points between them, those who had included them in their line up enjoyed a considerable boost to their scores.

Looking ahead, we now have the international break to assess our squads and plan our strategies, but a further reminder too – the League closes to new sign ups at midnight on 31 August. If you fancy taking part and would like the code to do so, drop me a PM – for those of you I've sent the code to but haven't registered yet, your time is running out! ;)

Speaking of Young, I'm a bit surprised he hasn't been more of a featured free kick taker this season, given how good he was in that role for Villa and how United's free kicks haven't amounted to much in the last couple of seasons. Maybe he gave Rooney some pointers -- those two he scored yesterday were magnificent.

Thanks to Rooney for kicking me up from the bottom of the table. I'm having a slow start as usual, hope I have a red hot October coming up like last year.

Well played Nieval, just remember that it's not who's at the top one month in come season end... ;)

Wise words stridemat, I'll do well to heed them.

As they say in the Oscars "It an honour just to be considered in a group of talented managers like the ones in the MacRumors Fantasy League".. :p

Meanwhile, here are the Cup fixtures for the post-international break Gameweek 4...

Sporting Dual-Cores v Omaha Latics
Fizzy's Flyers v AFC MacRumors
Brainerd FC v Rugby United
Woodsmoor Wanderers v Bushey Fighters
Neutron Heath v Bayern Bru
No Value v Nieval's Angry Mob
Cleveland AFC v FFM
Fabulous Boyz v Renfrew Meerkats
Fightin' Shrooms v The Stoplights
Telford Blues v Thigh High Socks

Don't forget to take a look at your teams now the break is over.

Mine was riddled with injuries...had to reorganise a little.

Gah! My team sucks and is getting worse by the week. Probably gonna have to play the WC to give myself a shot at this thing. Who woke Rooney up? That guy's gone bananas! Most likely I'll get him in the squad so when he stops scoring, you'll all know why! :p

At least my American Fantasy Football teams are playing well. Gotta have something going for me... :)

I'm in the same boat and played my wildcard. Don't worry about Rooney, I've already cursed him :)
