So, 20 minutes into the Portugal-Ivory Coast game and my captain has already got a yellow card. My only hope is that he now scores 15 goals so I might get out the bottom half :(

Any way to see a players value before dropping a man on your team? I want to make a few transfers, but I can't seem to find a way to avoid dropping someone before entering the market.

You still have to confirm any transfer so just drop them and if you decide not to transfer, just cancel the transfer. I just transferred out Buffon and was a bit worried as it pops up a warning but it still needs you to confirm

Ah, OK. Thanks, I appreciate the tip. I didn't want to start dropping and adding players all over the place just to get one guy at the correct value.

on the top there is a tab "player stats" (right next to 'how to play')where you can se the lists of players concerning points and 'game value'

edit: and you can sort by value of course

another question from my side: with Senderos going of the pitch injured now ... what happens if spain now shoots a goal will he still get points subtracted for goals conceded even though he isn't on the pitch anymore ?

Interesting question, I know the Premier League one that we did he would have. Happened to me when Cech got sent off, I still got minus points for goals Chelsea conceeded despite him already being on his way home

From the "How to Play" tab:

Goalkeepers and Defenders will only lose points for goals conceded when they are on the pitch.

Since Senderos was substituted out, he shouldn't lose any points for a goal scored now, but he didn't play long enough to earn a Clean Sheet if they remain unscored upon.

ahhh ok
well i'm happy with that .. since i have one defender in my squad who didn't play in the first game (silly me picking him) and senderos being my substitute defender i hopefully will get those 2 points which brings me to 41 for my first week
which i'm quite happy since none of my players scored a single goal...

damnit ... now after the game i'm not so happy about senderos getting injured ... another 4 points gone

The interface isn't the most elegant or intuitive unfortunately, but if you scout around then you should be able to find what you're looking for.

Anyway, a quick reminder – the next deadline for transfers and the like is coming up. At the time of writing you've got just over two hours to make your changes, so don't forget to make transfers and pick your captain for the next round of matches.

I'm looking at you when I say that, swiftaw. :p ;)

Anyway, the table for the first round will be published a little later this evening (along with a little extra something), so we've all got a few hours yet to work out our excuses.

Ugh I'm 15th overall with this lineup...28 points...RVP let me down...and I put the wrong Brazilian in...

Tied for first! Beginner's luck lives!:D

The only goals I've gotten have been from Defenders... figures. This league has made watching the games much more fun. Thanks again Jaffa Cake for setting this up! Good luck MR Leaguers.

Here's my GWK2 lineup:

Well, Switzerland's victory over Spain this afternoon was the final tie in the first round of matches – which means it's time for us to take a look at the current standings...

Team-League-Table-R1.jpg

It's perhaps been a bit of an odd opening round, with a lot of draws and fewer goals than one would have guessed. Nonetheless, there were still points up for grabs and we find ourselves with three teams sitting proudly at the top of the table – Tilpots, The Fightin' Shrooms and the Gauchoholics, so congratulations to their respective managers Tilpots, pjlander and Gauchogolfer.

Additionally, those who played the MacRumors Fantasy League last season will remember that each month the leading points scorer received the accolade of 'Manager of the Month' – in a similar fashion the team (or teams) which earns the most points in each round of this World Cup will receive a bit of recognition as the 'Team of the Round'. The winner (or should I say winners) on this occasion will come as no surprise given the league table – step forward Tilpots, pjlander and Gauchogolfer.

Well done gentlemen. :)

I couldn't be prouder, honestly.
I'd just like to thank my business manager, all the people who've supported me over the years, the players who never lost faith in me, my parents, who never said that 'Fantasy World Cup Manager' wasn't a worthy goal for a young lad.

*music starts playing over my acceptance speech*
*exits, stage right*

you had maicon and marquez tilpots ? well that sure is on the lucky side .. still was close in the end with being only 3 points behind (shaking fist angry towards italy) ..... but now i made some transfers with keeping the actual fixtures in mind ... which i somehow didn't think about the first gameweek

But wait. There's more.

Normally with our Fantasy Football competitions, we pit player against player – but this is of course the World Cup. With that in mind, I thought it might be fun to keep track of how the various nationalities taking part in the game are doing.

So, we're not just playing for our own personal pride – we're playing for the honour of our countries! :D

When we registered for the game, each of us nominated a World Cup team we were supporting and this is what I've used as the basis of the league table below. Where we have a couple of folk who I know are from countries which aren't represented in South Africa – namely a Scot and a Canadian – I've put them down as representing these nations. Where more than one player has picked the same country, I've worked out their average score.

I'll update this each round alongside the main league table, but here are the standings from Round 1...

...and we can see that, like Archie Gemmill dancing through a Dutch defence, it's the Scots who have brushed aside the opposition to take an early lead. So well done to Fuzzy14, manager of our sole tartan-toting team.

Heh. Look how rubbish the English lot are doing. :D

Oh.

Surely you need to exclude Scotland's top and bottom scores?
We've only got the one Scot – Fuzzy – so I've not worked out an average score... if I remember rightly, the only three teams on that list who have more than one supporter are England, the Netherlands and the US. Unless I'm missing something about tallying score, and top and bottom ones and stuff?

Anyway, Higuain has scored for Argentina, unsurprising seeing as how I've transferred him out this week. Gah.

you can put me on the austria list though .. i only choose argentina because of the lack of an austrian team in the selection window ;)
Okay – I should have guessed! :p

On that note, if anyone has put themselves down as a supporter of a certain team because their own country isn't represented, let me know (drop me a PM) and I'll edit things accordingly.
