I don‘t agree, apparently.

What I did was merely calling out the elephant in the room. I‘d find it problematic, though, if it were not allowed to discuss the matter
There's no elephant in the room when you're not focused on someone's appearance first and foremost. There's only an elephant in the room when everyone is thinking of something and no one is talking about it. Which is not the case here.

iJustine is simply a guest the MR folks had on to discuss her impressions of the new M2 MBA. Her physical appearance has nothing to do with how well she can create and communicate those first impressions, and that's why the question is problematic.

Full disclosure: I don't watch her videos. I don't watch videos from most of the reviewers whose names get thrown around in these forums. I don't live in the Apple YouTube Reviews Cinematic Universe, and today was the very first I've seen her, in the MR video.

Correct

But her appearance could quite likely factor into why some folks are more drawn to her content than others.

Physical appearance of presenters (in video or real life) makes an impression on everyone. To what degree that matters is subjective for each of us, but it's incorrect to not acknowledge it's a real thing.

Question for those lucky enough to have an M2 Macbook Air: would a keyboard skin purchased for a 16" M1 Pro MBP fit the new M2 Macbook Air? I returned my 16" base and bought a spec'd out M2 Air. I held on to the keyboard skin in the hopes it will be a exact fit on the new M2 Air. So if anyone has both, or a new M2 Air and a 14" MBP, please advise :). No rush though, as mine wont arrive until Aug 9 :-(

IMO there is a lot of vitriol on here directed at Jusitne and a lot of it has a tinge of sexism. I don't watch YouTube reviews so can't comment on how they come across but some of the language used on here does tick a sexism box unfortunately. I don't mind people posting about how she is a bad reviewer but these kind of comments are just dubious , such as:

"cute tech nerd girls", I've yet to hear a male reviewer being described in this way

"IMO she's well past her prime" again, not a criticism levelled at male reviewers.

Im sure you aren't a sexist or anything, but its a bit of an unfortunate use off language imo. Not meaning to single out the person who posted that as it seems to be the general vibe here (Im still shuddering at the recent usage of "bresticles" somewhere else here recently.

But hey, what do I know, Im probably just a woman who is well past their prime /s

Surely its going to be bigger. Whether that's a problem for you whatever

Why is the question "problematic"?

Physical appearance is absolutely a part of success in visual fields, for both men and women.

If you're on video/film, your appearance is a component in your appeal.
It's not the only component, but it's a factor and acknowledging that or asking about it doesn't make anyone sexist, nor is it problematic to do so.

Society has got to relax on some of this.
If you can't even talk about things, we literally are permanently stuck on so many issues.

Would you ask the same question about a co-worker, in front of your boss?

I agree we as a society have to work on a lot of issues. Making sure it's safe for anonymous posters on internet forums to judge people based on their attractiveness is not one of them.

That's not a relevant litmus test

Btw: I'm discussing how folks may be MORE drawn to her content due to her being an attractive woman.
That is generally opposed to any normal definition of sexism (which almost always confers a negative connotation).

I don't watch her content, as I don't enjoy her style and often very surface level analysis of things (and her lack of critical rigor when it's deserved). That said, I guarantee you there are people who are more drawn to her content because she's an attractive human being.

That doesn't make anyone sexist -- it makes them human beings.
And again, that's a positive draw to her content, not prejudice or discrimination against her based upon her appearance.

i.e. it's literally the opposite of the classical definition of sexism.

Of course people like watching attractive people, but it is stupidly easy to find attractive people on the internet so "enduring" what you consider to be bad content just because you find the person attractive seems like a silly proposal. She has 7M subscribers because people like her content enough to subscribe and watch, not because she is pretty.

"Influential" ..... really? I can count the number of people who have been influenced by her on my kidneys. Have to be weak-minded to be influenced by someone who just screams and whoops anything Apple. If one of their products exploded and amputated both her legs, she'd still be explaining how awesome it is, while screeching and flicking her hair.

That‘s the point. We are not at judging HER. We are discussing how people perceive her - and, in my case, assuming that some of the hate against her is rooted therein. We absolutely should be able to discuss matters like this. Otherwise we already lost a key part of our once rather free society

A lot of creeps and weirdos seem to watch product reviews as porn judging by some of the comments. I have never once cared what a reviewer looked like.

I am a fan of the notch except on the base model, smallest-screen-size MacBook. It takes away all your "screen real estate".

no prob

that 1tb looks like its humming along just fine, nice!
I just put on some Billy Joel Flac and the M2 sounds really good. The sound is nice and clear with no vibration etc. Balance seems to be pretty good as well.

I am really digging the Universal Control between the two MBA's. Magic keyboard and track pad working smoothly as well.

The alternative is that entire bar where the notch is would be a bezel instead so you still are gaining real estate from having a notch.
Speaking of real estate, I really like having more screen with the M2. The thinner bezels really make a difference (at least to me). If people will stop getting caught up in the forum free for all, I think many here would be thrilled with the M2, even if they already have the M1.
