the sensor got good enough long ago. Just because there are better on paper sensors doesn't mean the experience would change any for the customer. The big issue aside from the port, is the sensor. It still has the same sensor from the AA battery version released in 2009, which was already a little behind back then. Since then, mouse sensors have improved dramatically. Apple is shipping the same quality sensor you would get in a mouse from 5 Below for $5, in a $99 shell. Usually Apple's prices are justified by their quality, but in this case it is unjustifiable. Apple should have the best components internally and they usually do. Only thing I can imagine at this point is that they plan on releasing a pro mouse. Anyone who has spent more than a day with a modern mouse with a modern sensor, has a really hard time going back to the Magic Mouse. It's like using a resistive touch screen in 2024.
Yeah actually surprised Apple has given this more thought. IT's the type of detail that tends to separate apple from others. That being said, the MM is also likely low priority. Vast majority are on laptops with trackpads etc.Yes, I think it's around there too. But I'd welcome a visual prompt maybe in the main menu that might be a yellow dot at 10% and then a red dot at 5% or something like that.
As is, I delete the notification but then forget at the end of the day.
You clearly don't own or use one. I've been using one for nearly 15 years, I think I'm on my third one. The low battery alert almost never works as intended, most battery alerts only happen once, usually less than 5mins before it dies. And it always happens at the most inconvenient times of the day.Honestly, I love that they’ve done this because it’s going to piss off all the wrong people. It’s a manufactured rage bait topic and a completely non-existent problem in real world use.
You’ll charge your Mouse 3-4 times per year. 2 hours while you sleep gives you months of use. If you somehow missed all the battery warnings over weeks, then a 30 second charge will give you several hours of use. A 2 minute charge will let you work through an 8 hour day.
More crap based on nothing. If you actually owned a decent mouse and directly compared it to a Magic Mouse you'd notice the immediate night and day difference in tracking smoothness. Magic Mouse sensors are also highly sensitive to skipping from any tiny bit of dust/dirt/hair, and a lot of nice mouse pads straight up don't work wth Magic Mouse because the sensor hasn't changed in 15 years.the sensor got good enough long ago. Just because there are better on paper sensors doesn't mean the experience would change any for the customer.
I don't get why this is so hard for people to understand, and it's not like there isn't another mouse out there people could buy if this doesn't meet their needs. It's a wireless mouse.
Logi Options is first party software for Logitech (Unless you were meaning MacOS should have it built in, but I don't think Logitech has any power in that realm). As far as zoom goes, if you are already reaching for the keyboard on Windows, you can keyboard zoom from MacOS too, it just doesn't use the mouse wheel. You can also set custom keyboard shortcuts in MacOS if the default keys aren't positioned where it is easy for you to reach.
Apple has a very loyal customer base and many of them will only buy accessories made by Apple, even when third-party products are better and/or less expensive. This is great for Apple's profits and may sometimes discourage it from innovating. In the PC and Android universes, where competition in much more intense, manufacturers have no such loyal base and must constantly innovate to outdo each other and stay in the game. It's a world where this same Magic Mouse would have been heavily criticized from the start and replaced by something better after just a year or so.Apple is clearly on a "no effort" path with its lack of redesigns. Just raking in the profits, no redesign needed.
Ok Copernicus, you’re welcome to that take. And. I guess. From a certain point of view this could be correct- sensors got good enough long ago but Apple never bothered to include them opting for outdated tech with a better profit margin. High DPI sensors absolutely make a huge difference and can even reduce RSI.the sensor got good enough long ago. Just because there are better on paper sensors doesn't mean the experience would change any for the customer.
Glad you picked up what I was throwing down even though the person commenting to me with a novella had it fly over their headI think that was what they were expressing. It shouldn't have even one single point of failure, yet it has many.

How that would degrade it? 🤦♂️to not allow lazy customers to degrade their experience by leaving it plugged in
I dropped the equivalent of a high end Mac Pro on a gaming PC and it’s amazing. I’ll probably never buy another iPhone after this new battery in my 13 pro max goes out in a few years. Just vote with your walletthats just lazy, as are the "new" pastel colours being used. I aint spending a cent on apple these days, as its now all a bit "beige" and boring.
Just charge it at night guys… CHARGE AT NIGHT!I lost work time because of the Magic Mouse's port being on the bottom.
So glad I have an MX Master 3S. My only complaint is the software being Electron.
If Apple really cared they would have made it charge via an inductive mouse pad. I’m convinced of this.Just charge it at night guys… CHARGE AT NIGHT!
doesn’t make a huge difference at all. Makes no difference.Ok Copernicus, you’re welcome to that take. And. I guess. You’re wrong again. You clearly don't own or use one. I've been using one for nearly 15 years, I think I'm on my third one. The low battery alert almost never works as intended, most battery alerts only happen once, usually less than 5mins before it dies. And it always happens at the most inconvenient times of the day.
The battery life and charging time claims are not accurate, especially after months of daily use and it only gets worse over time.
Adding a usb-c port to the front and allowing wired use would negatively impact no-one and benefit everyone.

I only choose to use one with macOS because I like the touch gestures, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have immediately obvious flaws that need addressing.
Apple not updating it in any meaningful way in 2024 is absolutely inexcusable and embarrassing.
It makes a material difference and Apple will still love you if you say so. It’s objectively, empirically better. Any mouse with a higher DPI is smoother and easier to use. I’m not sure how you’re arguing the equivalent of the earth is flat, but here we aredoesn’t make a huge difference at all. Makes no difference.
You’re wrong again.
I don’t use a mouse but I’ve seen a low-battery warning in the menu bar in my spouse’s iMac. I don’t remember how much charge was left. Maybe it should be more prominent if people are not noticing?… What I would like to see is a notification that pops a warning of remaining battery and/or some kind of on-screen something (maybe even a tiny red-dot) alerting me to when it's at or below about 5-10%. Maybe turn the control center icon RED with a one-liner about low battery?
