I did it, but I got a KP. Restarted 3 times but had a KP each time. Booted from the other HD and removed VoodooHDA. Next I will reboot to see if I get a KP.

Edit: After removing the above named kext, a reboot was successful.

If you have spare PCI slot then do yourself a favour and pick up a cheap used SB Audigy card then use the kX driver. This works great in my machines plus as an added bonus if you get one with the firewire port on it then that works flawlessly as well.

Thanks for the info. I already have Firewire on the mobo. I will continue to seek the answer to the sound problem. Your suggestion will be my last resort.

If you dont need surround or really good quality you can pick up a usb audio dongle on ebay for about $3.

What audio chipset are you using, maccompaq? And are you running the kernel in x64 or x86 mode?

The audio chip is ALC 888. The kernel is x64.

For now if I need audio, I use a headset with Snow Leopard or boot into Windows 7, or use my other two Hackintosh computers or my other Macs. At least I am not in dire straits to find a quick solution.

I do thank you all for your suggestions.

Its really odd that voodoohda would cause a kp. I'm using alc888 under x64 mode and i've had no issues at all. My machine is a C2Q cpu, so i'm sure theres a huge difference between that and your i7 setup. It seems like the i7 mobos havent been 100% figured out yet ;)

Well, good luck fixing your sound problem, i'm afraid i've done all i can do.

HI all. I made an OSX86 system for a friend who needed an extra machine on the cheap. I could have used a P55 board, but I wanted to keep it under $400. Here are my specs:

ASRock P45DE motherboard
Intel Core2Duo 775 2.93 GHz Processor
nVidia GeForce 8400GS
2 x SATA HD's
1 SATA Optical
1 IDE Optical
2 GB DDR3 SDRAM
10.6.3
Windows 7

I have 10.6.3 working perfectly except for the sound. I did get it working for a bit, but no matter how many different voodoohda installs I attempt I receive this error in terminal:

error: IORegistryEntryGetPath returned 0x10000003
logout

I attempted to google the info yet nothing results. Any thoughts? Do I need to alter the Info.plist for the VooDooHDA.kext to include and device ID's?

Also, I'm not using a DSDT patch.

Thanks!

You can yourself massive headaches with onboard audio by getting a supported sound card, or one of these USB audio dongles.

I've compared this side by side with onboard audio on my Hacks. (Gigabyte P45, P35, G31 and G41 systems)

It actually produces cleaner, better sound than the onboard audio since it's a digital path. No drivers, no hassles, no fuss, no worries about any updates breaking the sound. Works OOB in any OS.

For me it's a no brainer rather than pulling hair out futzing around with onboard, unless of course people just enjoy the challenge.

^^You can get those usb dongles for about $3 on ebay, you'd just have to wait for it to come from HK.

I kinda had to get the alc888 working on my board because when i boot into windows i like using my 5.1 channel sound system (while apple still refuses to believe anywise uses more than stereo...) and i dont want to plug and replug my wires every time i reboot.

Good point.

I had that same problem with my home office system- how to switch between my 5.1 Firewave for OSX (not Windows compatible), and my 5.1 soundcard for Windows (not OSX compatible).

I simply used an old AV toggle box that accepts the inputs from both sources, and I switch the single output depending on what OS I'm booting. I use OSX mostly, so it's not often I have to switch it, but at least there's no messy futzing with cables behind the tower.

I would be awesome if apple would include 5.1 on the motherboard. I can buy a $50 motherboard on newegg that has 5.1 built in but apple refuses to support it ootb, even on the Pro. A bit ridiculous imo, but just another reason to build a hac.

Correct, DoFoT. That and actual 5.1 mixing capabilities would be great. As of now i have to dick around with SoundFlower to get 5.1 working with my setup. Unless i'm doing something wrong, which is likely.

im going to contribute some information to this thread, if i may. I may be new, but im not new to computers, have built mine for the past 10 years, my first computer was a 75MHz overclocked to 100MHz beast built from like 5 different computers. i recently got a dell dimension 8200 from my grandad and successfully turned it into a hackintosh running os x 10.5.8 using iDeneb. am planning to pull the unused SB audigy card out of my gaming rig (AMD Athlon dual core 4GB ram windows 7 64bit) and put it in this, because I just read on this thread that its compatible with the kx kext. however, i am having some issues with mouse tearing, the 'about this mac' quick reboot problem (best explaination i can come up with, i click about this mac, and the OS desktop reboots in a span of maybe 4 seconds) and NO DRIVERS for my ATI Radeon x800 XT 256MB AGP. supposedly this card is a monster of the AGP world (nVidia guy myself) and cant figure out (and no one will tell me) if this card truly works in OS X or not. and if so, what are some steps to get it working? i have tried AGPGart, with that, i could boot in safemode, but when i booted with -v, it gave me an error about 'appleintelprocessorpowermanagementtimedout' error, or something along those lines. im scared to delete the kext because i like being able to boot this system in os x, and it took me 16 hours to get it reloaded after i formatted once, aint going thru that again. does anyone have any ideas of my problem(s) ? i have asked on other forums, and get NO response. please.. im ripping my hair out over this.. thank you all guys!!!

next time maybe some paragraphs? I didn't get past the fifth line of what you wrote because the run on text made it too difficult to follow.

My bad. Basically I have an ati radeon x800xt agp and I have tried everything in the book to get it working in Mac os x. Agpgart made my system unbootable, except in safe mode.
I also have some mouse tearing, which I'm hoping will be fixed when I get the video card driver installed.
If the x800xt isn't compatible with os x in agp, what's a good card? All I needs is for it to run world of Warcraft, don't need it maxed out. Geforce 6200?
And the about this Mac panel doesn't work it causes a os crash.. Any way to fix that? Thanks. And I apologize bout no paragraphs in the previous post.

AGP- wow. It's amazing the old hardware Leopard will even run on.

Check the OSx86 project hardware compatibility list.

As one might expect, there's very few AGP cards that seem to work with QE/CI- I wouldn't have expected your card to work.

You can also check through the other component lists for every 10.5.x version (from the home link) but it looks to me like the AGP 6200 is probably a safe bet.

Newegg still has then in the $40 to $70 range.

Okay so I took the case apart to put my old hard drive in for windows use, and maybe cuz it's set as a slave, it wouldn't install, so I just made it int a second hard drive for leopard.

Anyways, the card is an all in wonder x800 256mb agp. I didn't think it would work.

I switched out the sound card for a sound blaster live pci card with a emu10k1 processor, and the kx drivers don't work. Help?

and how would the 6200 be a safe bet? theres no information listed about it?

nevermind about the sound card.. i rebooted and reloaded the KX drivers from a different source, and the sound started working. im listening to music now, as a matter of fact.

no hacked drivers/kexts for the AIW x800 huh? darn

okay, i got the card being recognized under 10.5 using callisto. is being read for what it is, an ati all in wonder. however, i have no hardware acceleration. i can change resolutions and everything, but i cant watch DVDs, cant run OPENGL applications, etc. i think im half there to it being fully compatible on this system... any suggestions?

ended up buying a nvidia geforce 6200 agp. put the card in, tried many different kexts, including titan, natit, macvidia, etc. nothing enabled QE/CI, though editing the original 'geforce 7xxx' drivers to read the 6 series enabled rotation (no idea what that is), i couldnt play games or run any 3d apps.

on google i stumbled across 'nvidia universal installer'. i downloaded it, deleted all ATI drivers, all geforce drivers, all injectors, then repaired permissions, cleared cache, etc, and installed. it logged me out, then back in, and the display was all screwed up. not responsive, stuff would crash, so i rebooted, praying i would be able to get back in. sure enough, it came back up, WITH FULL QE/CI and hardware acceleration! the card is still being reported as PCI, when its AGP, and obviously, running at the speed of a PCI bus, not AGP. but im not one to complain. im only running this 'hackintosh' to get used to the operating system until i buy a mac pro.

Right lads (and girls),

I have a problem.

I installed Aperture 2 on my Hack (bought it fair and square) and I'm seeing performance problems on it at the moment.

I'd like to work out a replacement for my hack, with me repurposing the current one as a server.

My budget would be £500 or less, and I'd like to use a core i5, if possible. Also would like a graphics card which will work well without any kexts or fiddling.

Any ideas? Cheers.

So I have an Acer Aspire One and I was wondering if it's possible to update it to 10.6.4 now
