I bought a modded case from a guy and it seemed like it wasnt too difficult to do if you have decent DIY skills. I would have done it myself but the case was cheap and i couldnt help myself.

You have to remove all the motherboard studs (grab them with pliers and bend), then re-mount them in the correct ATX positions using epoxy. Just make sure to sand the aluminum to scuff it up a little or the epoxy wont hold.

You'll need to do some creative wiring for the front panel, but nothing major. I took the switch out and mounted a different power switch with a led power light in it. I'll see if i still have pics of it.

Intel Core I5 760 2.8Ghz
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R Socket 1156

WD Caviar Green 640GB SATA2
WD Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA2 64MB
Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 1GB GDDR5

What do you think about this machine to run Hackintosh as main OS?

edit: well i have SL installed - but have been having quite a few problems and issues.

i did successfully undate to 10.6.4 without any issues, but now it seems to have cause all of these problems. any ideas?

silly me. i upgraded to 10.6.4 when they havent completely patched it yet! i should be able to get to 10.6.3 no problem, but for now i will leave it with 10.6.0

im trying to figure out how to remote into the server from any location via LDAP, anybody have any idea what ports it would require open and forwarded on my modem? no google page seems to know :(

Does that help? I have no idea how any of that stuff works, so sorry if that is way off :D
DAMN! nice link man. i will check when i get home later today. thanks muchly for that! i had a quick glance and id pretty much followed it to the T, but ill have an indepth look later

I've avoided the 10.6.4 update just because i dont want it to kill the speed of my gtx260. 10.6.4 hates nvidia for no reason.
it kills everything bar the 4850 iMac cars eheh, they see a 10-20% INCREASE in speed using the 10.6.4 drivers (these drivers come with the 5850 and cant be gained just by getting 10.6.4).

Purely out of interest, I was wondering, will Mac graphics cards work in a hackintosh?

thats a good question. i dont think that the EFI "firmware" of the apple cards will work with the BIOS on a PC motherboard - so unless you can by an EFI compatible mobo, you might be in trouble. i always thought the ROM of the apple cards was locked?

I just finished loading Snow Leopard on my i7-930/P6T motherboard.

For a while, I struggled with finding the correct process that would work on my P6T (non SE, non Deluxe version). Insanely mac had the P6T-SE and P6T-Deluxe guides, but only one guide for the non-se, non-delux. It was way too complex to effectively install and maintain. i then found http://www.fleebailey33.org/ This provided the automated process to easily install SL on my i7.

I've been using windows 7 as my main OS since building the computer and let me say that its great to be back. I also have a mini which I use, but its great to have my main machine running OSX :D

anyone ever tried making a hackingtosh out of an IBM intellistation 6850-62G, I got one laying around. Been trying to make a linux server out of it but bout the only things i can get to work are HTTP/HTTPs and FTP/SSH. I'm wanting it to be an OpenVPN server but can't get it working at all.

My fiance has just put together a hackintosh build and could really do with some advice.

The specs are as follows:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P Motherboard
Intel Pentium Dual Core E6700 3.2GHz
6GB DDR2 Ram (3 x 2GB)
64GB SSD
Pioneer SATA DVDRW
nVidia 8800GT 512MB Graphics

We are trying to install Snow Leopard and have got a Snow Leopard 10.6.3 DVD and we're using this installation method. The install went smoothly and even the sound on the motherboard worked but once we installed the 10.6.4 combo update, the sound stopped working. Additionally, the graphics card doesn't get recognized and we've tried changing the two NVDAxxx kexts for ones from 10.6.0 but that didn't work either.

Has anyone got any advice on how we can get the 8800GT graphics card and ALC889A Audio working in 10.6.4?

Thanks

Check out the forums over at insanelymac.com From the sounds of it, the 10.6.4 update overlayed the custom kexts you used for sound and possibly video.

I've read a number of threads there, where people needed to reinstall some kexts after applying an update

Also visit that site when an update does come around, as apple is prepping 10.6.5. You don't want to be the first one on the block to apply the patch. Let someone else go through the pain ;)

UPDATE: I have been on insanelymac and tonyx86 and have managed to get the 8800GT working, but still can't get the ALC889A working despite everyone saying it's meant to be one of the most compatible sound chips.

I did a clean install of 10.6.3 today and the sound (and graphics card) worked straight away. Once I installed 10.6.4, both the sound and graphics stopped working, got an updated dsdt file which got the graphics working but any dsdt or kext I try for the sound doesn't work. I even kept a copy of the 10.6.3 AppleHDA kext before udating then copied that back to the extensions folder once the update had finished but that didn't work either.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you don't have two audio kexts. I had this with my ethernet, but once I figured out that I had to delete the Leopard kext (which was copied over during Migration Assistant) my ethernet returned.

Thanks. I'm going to try another clean install tomorrow and see if I can get it working. If not, I may just stick with 10.6.3

im not sure how useful this link may be - but it shows support for a lot of the common motherboards/CPUs etc and even lists some proper kexts to use.

Thanks. I did look at the InsanelyMac Wiki which is how we ended up with the hardware we've got. Unfortunately they havent yet got a page for osx 10.6.4 and as I say everything was working fine on 10.6.3.

i would put it down to inconsistencies with 10.6.4 then, its still fairly new and it does take a while for the modified kexts to come out. i vote for staying with 10.6.3. :)

Hey guys, I'm looking into building my first hackintosh. The hardware I picked out is as follows:

CPU: Intel Core i5 750 2.66 GHz Lynnfield
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Socket 1156
DVD: Asus 24x SATA DVD-RW
PSU: Corsair TX 750W ATX
RAM: 2x2GB G.Skill DDR3 1333 MHz
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM SATA II
GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA 460 GTX 1GB

Now, I realize I may have some trouble getting the graphics card to work as it isn't fully supported by OS X (AFAIK)... but does everything else seem good to go? In regards to the GPU, I found this thread http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t214219-200.html and I'm thinking this means that I have a chance getting the 460 to work?

Is the motherboard and CPU okay? Anybody have the same set up?

Any recommendations for bluetooth and wireless cards?

Thanks a lot!

Edit: I plan to use the iBoot + MultiBeast method

The CPU and Motherboard seem fine but I would go for the Core i5 760 2.8GHz instead of the 750 as there's only a small price difference (some places even sell the 760 cheaper).

I'm in the process of building a very similar setup (same motherboard, i5 760 CPU but with a 1GB 9800GT).

I wouldn't built a hackintosh; not because I don't want to, it's because I just don't have the time, money, knowledge or hardware available for me to do it! :D

Agreed. given that the motherboard is a 1156 socket.

Its surprisingly easy just as long as you choose the MB and gpu carefully. While I had initial issue with my P6T mobo, I eventually got it to work and the process was surprisingly simple.
