I'm just looking at Graphics cards that work with OSX 10.6.3 and was wondering how compatible would the Asus 1GB nVidia GT 240 be?

I'm currently buying the bits for a new hackintosh and just wondering what graphics card out of these two people would recommend. The nVidia GT240 or the nVidia 9800GT? The 9800GT would be bought off ebay but the GT240 would be new. Both around the same price.

The GT240 is only 128 bit. Not too good
The 9800GT is 256 bit with 112 Stream Processors. Better
The GT250 is 256 bit with 128 Stream Processors, and would be the best of the three. Best

Thanks. The GT250 is a little more than I wanna spend to be honest. I think, if I can get the 9800GT for a good price, I'll go for it.

hey guys. ive decided that i want to install SL server onto my hack - E4600 + 8500GT.

i would like a vanilla install and am not really sure where to go to achieve this - currently my hack is using an iATkos install.

any guides for SL?

If anyone's interested, here's a comparison of OWC's 60gb Mercury Pro SSD, eSATA, FW800 and FW400 on my hackintosh. The SSD is internal while the other three are on my Rosewill external drive with a Samsung 500 gb 7200 rpm 3.5" hard drive. The SSD really flies.

you werent kidding! quite comparable to the Intels (just a tad slower).

Are you sure that your retail "disk" boots on a real mac? Maybe the image is bad?

it's "disc" first of all :p just kidding hahaha.

and yes, i have installed this particular OSX Server on a number of VMs and computers before.

anyway, using your guide + the section titled "Chameleon v2 RC1 USB Bootloader w/Netkas PCEFIv10.1 patched boot" from here (and additional files from here) i have successfully booted into the OSX installer process. its currently just finishing the install process - it has 14 mins left. fingers crossed that it will boot after it finishes! its running off an IDE drive :(

Good luck with the retail install, DoFoT. I've done it once with Snow Leo and i find its really not worth it. I'd rather just install a prepared disc and move all the important stuff the /Extra so it stays safe. Retail is too much work compared to just popping in a disc and installing.

the installer appears to be frozen now. the blue bar isnt "waving" as it normally would. been that way for 15mins. i need more luck :p

i really have no idea what im doing WRT the vanilla installs. in the past i did iAtkos installs, easy peasy :D

any idea of the cause? its on an IDE drive - i wonder if thats causing any issues.

Did you de-select any thing that was optional under "customize"? Sometimes installs fail when you have all the addons selected. Only having essential stuff selected. (No printers, no additional languages, no Rosetta....)

got rid of everything bar the necessary stuff. its installed now :) its being annoying but ill get there. :)

edit:

well i have SL installed - but have been having quite a few problems and issues.
1. im using Chameleon to help boot, have a few select kexts etc that i THINK are important (no actual clue). when it loads i choose "osx" to boot from then it will return "can't find Mach_Kernel" - im guessing that is attempting to load from the flash drive i have? which is odd, because its on there and its booted in the past. some times it will find it, others it wont.

2. having some DNS issues, i cant get to web pages unless i use a proxy to connect.

3. the server side of things completely dropped off before - i couldnt edit anything in GWM etc.

i did successfully undate to 10.6.4 without any issues, but now it seems to have cause all of these problems. any ideas?

I have just made an impulse buy on ebay...a G5 case for £55 inc p&p. Now, are there any good guides to getting a hackintosh installed in it?
