You have build your computer with using OS X on it in mine. If you do it this way (instead of trying to put OS X onto a PC you already own), then it's quite easy. Just check the HCL for components.

Where is the best place to download Kalyway 10.5.2 and what process is used to download it and then to burn to DVD?

Kalyway 10.5.2 can be found on sites like {removed by moderator}

You can just use disk utility to burn it. Just make sure and burn at the slowest speed.

If you go to osx86project.org and check out the wiki, they have detailed step by step install instructions

so how do you guys think snow leopard will work on a hackintosh? I'm really considering this and already have a lot of my parts picked out. What's the best/easiest way to overclock a processor?

Snow Leopard dev has already been installed on a hackintosh. Something like the first or second day it was available.

OC'ing depends on your mobo. My Asus was quite easy to manipulate. My quad core's oob speed is 2.4, but I'm running it at 3.2 gHz with the fans on their lowest settings (quiet, too). The only time I crank it up is when I do H.264 encodes with Handbrake. HB is a great app for maxing your cpu core temps. :)

I'm looking at the GA-EP35-DS4 board with a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450. How easy do you think these components would be to overclock. Also can someone confirm that the processor will also fit in this mobo, because there is 45mm and 65mm and I don't no which one fits in the mobo but I think it's 45.

You are looking for the type of socket on the mobo. 45 or 65 refers to the design of the processor, not the socket size

So, those to choices should be fine, they are both socket LGA 775

I have done a lot of reading at all the sites, but the downloading process suggested by others is as follows.
This is simply a link to trackers and locations on other computers where you can download the actual file. The ‘.torrent’ file must be opened with the appropriate program, in my case I use uTorrent which is a free, stable, program. Be very patient as the download will most likely take hours, days, or even weeks!

Do you need Transmission to download the torrent. How long is the download?

Step 1: Download Transmission

Step 2: Find the tiny torrent file on piratebay

Step 3: Drop the torrent file into Transmission (the torrent file is no longer needed after this)

Step 4: You can google instructions on how to open ports on your router to increase the speed if it isn't fast enough for your liking

Step 5: Wait until the file finishes, and burn it in Disk Utility

EDIT: My connection was slow so it took me about a day

Thanks for the good reply. I downloaded Transmission. The torrent file on pirate is 3.66GB. "

Thanks for the good reply. I downloaded Transmission. The torrent file on pirate is 3.66GB. Is that what you meant by "tiny"? What do you mean by "dropping the torrent file into Transmission?"

A .torrent file is like half a MB. The completed file will end up being several gigs. Transmission will seek out all the parts from the information it gets from the .torrent file

Just drag and drop the .torrent file into Transmission and it will begin.

BTW like I said google "opening ports and transmission" to make it faster if it is too slow for you

Has anybody done a Hackintosh in a PowerMac G5 case?
Doesn't it really feel like a real Mac?
I've seen it done and their are a few froums that I have come accross online with people modding apple cases.

Building a machine is not a problem. It's updating the OS. Even with the new boot loader and if you know nothing about kext extensions and kernels... it's not that easy - yet.

I am downloading Kalyway 10.5.2 on my Mac at 100KB/s down and 20KB/s up. I Googled opening ports and transmission and could not see anything to increase my download speed. So far I have 250MB of the 3.66GB downloaded with 10 hours to go. Does this sound about right?
I very much appreciate your advice.

That sounds about right. it also depends how many people are sharing it. if its not that many than you will have to wait. Did you redirect incoming port set in transmission to your internal ip address on your router? if its not done properly it will be slower to download than when the port is opened.

I actually switched to Macs because of hackintosh project. At first I installed it and ran it on Dell XPS 410 with everything working. used it for about 6 months then ended up trading my xps 410 for a MacPro on craigslist. now I have MacPro and Air and couldn't be happier. so in my case Hackintosh actually helped convert me to the Mac side

Yeah, just wait for it, it will take some time. Depending on your Internet Service (DSL, Cable, ect...), you could lower your upload rate a little in Transmission's preferences. I have to keep mine at a measly 5kb to maintain the ability to do anything else online at all.

No, I did not redirect the incoming port. Right now I am downloading from 18 of 41 peers. Only 9 hours 34 minutes remaining.

I have a very fast cable internet. Based on your info, I went to Transmission's Permissions and changed my download rate to 1100KB/s and the upload rate to 10KB/s. My new results: download rate has increased to a range of 240-299KB/s, and my time remaining is now less than 4 hours.

if you can't figure out how to dl a torrent i don't think you should be building computers

damn

Torrents can take a little while to figure out. The only reason I give this comment any merit at all is the fact that this poster already admitted he hasnt had any real experience with building a computer from scratch

In this thread alone, there probably has been a weeks worth of googling explained to him in a few posts about BT

I have never built a computer, but I have rebuilt every computer I have ever owned except my 3 laptops. Not being familiar with the Hackintosh process, I have spend many hours reading a lot of OSX86 forums and asking lots of questions. I really appreciate all the help you all have given me. This project will be almost as much fun as the 65 horsepower ultralite airplane that I built.

So bear with me as I delve deeper into this project.

download almost complete

After the Kayway download is complete, what should I do? Should I leave the computer connected to seed others. If so, what upload rate would you suggest, and how long should I let it run?
