Instead of speculating and talking fluff, why don't you just go get this fixed?. The sooner you do, the better.

:D Vanilla, you just make me giggle... seriously... your posts are funny, in a genuine, non-sarcastic way. :D :D

Seriously smiley face giggly guy, your comprehension skills are poor at best. Keep believing that regarding this OSX bug anybody can "just get it fixed". If you just close your mind and keep repeating it, it will make it true. Giggle giggle :D:D:D:D:D:confused:

edit: I have become fatigued with this thread. So long.

Ignorant wretches? That's some clever name calling you've come up with.

Either way, point taken. It does seem the problem is out of your control for the time being.

He is a little bit on the silly side, this chappie. Pay no attention to idiots.

I created my own Hackintosh about 18 months ago and I've been really chuffed with it.

As the original poster says, it's stinking fast and cost a fraction of the price of similarly equipped Mac. I have it encased in a G5 Powermac enclosure and, coupled with a 20" ACD, it looks fantastic.

I would certainly do it again if I had the time - alas, work commitments take priority (and make me boot with Vista far too often for my liking at the moment!)

If anyone's interested I can take/post pictures :)

Yes, I've noticed that with Apple gear.

Must Take Be Fixed.

Often.

What could be worse than an Apple fanboy?... an ANTI-fanboy. You're just being ludicrously silly now. Feel free to carry on, if you feel it's valid reason to propogate the myth...

You'll have to define 'fanboy' a little bit better than that. Especially given my position, what I do and what I buy. I might be just a tad different from your average student who is (or isn't) blown away his first iMac / MBP after his experiences on some bottom-feeder PC.

On topic however, has anyone got a hold of this EFIX thing? And has anyone got it to work on a VM (VMWare Workstation) in Windows?

Sorry what?. Don't even recall having called you a fanboy... read and re-read... rinse & repeat until it sinks in...

Makes me giggle - everyone who owns a Mac, professes to BE a Professional, and they more often than not create some kind of illusion that they're uber-important and better than anyone else, even IF the contrary can be proven! (don't try it - you'll be arguing with an idiot - highly inefficient!). Let's bring this back down to earth for a minute; like me and a billion other people online, you own a Mac/PC/whatever... good. People that busy themselves with creating long lists of things they do on their Mac/PC, to justify the purchase of said machine/s to complete strangers online, are quite odd really, unless we NEED to know for some reason other than to bolster your ego. You don't inherit superiority or Professionalism, simply by owning a certain brand of product - as long as that is clear, thanks.

I'm sure you are a tad different - I don't understand in what context this comment was meant to be relevant, OR why. I didn't even call you a fanboy, if you READ THE WORDS!. We're ALL different, and we ALL want to be distinguishable from the next man. The (ironic) fact that we are ALL different, means we are ALL alike.

Just want you to be aware I am not here to flame, but I don't find any reason for my opinion to be suppressed, simply to make others feel high and mighty. I dislike snobbery, and I bought my Mac Pro in order to play around with it and get to know Maya and Lightwave etc. Simple as. I am not a Pro by any measure, so don't hold your breath expecting me to inform you of my hectic professional schedule as some kind of graphical tweaking, all-singing, all-dancing, video-editing wildlife photographer-cum-whizzkid, with a healthy interest in buying "scruffy" designer labels and a pretentious smirk, as I stroll down the road in my shorts and sandals, aiming my keyfob at a BMW.

We ALL like to exajerate - no matter how much we do so, to one-up one another; that's what forums are for (or so it seems)... don't expect the illusions of importance you create in your mind, to travel ANY further than the boundaries of your imagination!. You own items of hardware, with other items of hardware cleverly tucked away inside, to perform time saving tasks that (possibly) earn you money & make life more enjoyable. There is nothing more to it. Thanks.

Hmmm...

A very long, and totally misdirected answer.

Although I have to say, pretty much of a giveaway of the aspirational Apple user to equate 'Pro' with some irritating windbag in the design field.

How was the build and installation process? Any hints? I'm planning on doing this in a few weeks, as soon as newegg starts stocking the dual core atom boards.

The only hitch (that no one mentioned anywhere) was USB for some reason. I had to fully disable 2.0 to get it to stop freezing constantly. I'm unsure if this has to do with my PSU, or RAM, or... I dunno really. Kinda puzzling. But I don't really need the ports to be 2.0 for anything, so I'm happy.

oh my gosh!!!!

finally got the graphics card installed!!! woooooooooooooooo

pretty happy :) recognises it as 512mb and everything!! i can finally play lego star wars haha :) it wont, however, recognise that i have 2 monitors plugged in (one is plugged into the onboard slot, gonna change it to the GPU later) and i cannot change the resolution!! if i change it to 1280x1024 it will just go to a blue screen. i have to reboot, log in via Remote Desktop, remove the kext file, reboot, and reinstall the kext file again... odd

thanks for every1s help

A step in the other direction...

I got Leopard (10.5.4) up and running on my 10" EEE 1000h. I paid $350 (with a coupon) and then added the airport extreme card out of my mini, a spare 2GB stick of ram. Webcam, bluetooth, sleep, etc are all working. It's 4.5 lbs and $2000 cheaper than my MBP, and it's faster than our old iBook G4. The only issue is sound; I'm using a usb sound stick from amazon ($3).

I'm pretty pleased at the moment.

I like.

Which systems are the best for installing OSX? I'm not totally against using Linux OS, but I have some Mac-only software that I'd love to have on a netbook, so OS X on a netbook would be very good for me.

You guys all like OS X so much, that you maybe have forgotten the very reason OSX86 is even POSSIBLE: Apple migrated their platform over to Intel, due to Intel chips running cooler & faster than PPC.

The fact that you can run OSX86 on a "PeeCee" per se, is simply a convenience afforded to you by this fact; were it not for Intel processors being more efficient, you'd not even have this luxury. Apple didn't do it to help hobbyists, it's just a side effect of the migration - do you honestly think they compiled their source against x86/x64 hardware JUST FOR HOBBYISTS?. If it were not for Apple and their sales of Macintoshes, Intel OR PPC, then NOONE would ever have compiled OS X against x86/x64.

I urge people to remind themselves of this fact, before installing/hacking to bits, a beautiful OS; you have this BECAUSE of research and development @ Apple mainly, not because of the OSX86 scene's intelligence. Were it not for Macintosh sales, you'd be NONE the wiser. OSX86 exists due to Apple's decision to migrate - noone else has the source code!.

Apple don't exist so that you can buy their OS cheaply, and then skip the purchase of the hardware; this is analogous to walking into a cafe with your own sandwiches, and sitting down at a table, and munching your lunch without buying anything, and then walking out. I am not one bit impressed with the "intelligence" of members of OSX86 - Apple have done ALL the hard work (and believe me it is VERY hard to port a whole platform to a new processor architecture!) - if you want to use it then do so, but remember that you ONLY DO SO DUE TO THE ONGOING SALES OF *REAL* MAC HARDWARE. If noone buys Macs, do you think they will continue developing OS X for you hobbyists?. Wake up, and see the REAL world.

Did someone say that the OSx86 scene created OS X? I don't remeber that. They put a lot of time into getting around the safegaurds that prevent installation on third party hardware though.

Let's be honest here, this is like the arguement that if everyone was gay, the world would cease to exist. True, but there is no way 100% of the world is about to turn homosexual. Just like there is no way 100% of Apple users (or non Apple users for that matter) will build a hackintosh. It's a hobby. Plus, I would say most hackintosh users either have a mac, or would buy one if more options were available.

well, after being an apple customer all my life, and my dad being a customer for a large partion of his, id say that after a good 30 years of buying apple products at their increased prices we are entitled to be able to get(or take) something back. seirously the majority of hackintosh users is going to be... uuummmm.. 0.001% of the target market? if that!

besides, if you have bought leopard/tiger then you can install it on a hackintosh without having to use all of the extra installers that have been produced (such as the ones off osx86project). if you have the exact same ahrdware as a mac then im guessing that it doesnt break any EULA..

I think this is the crux of the matter. unlokia paid a lot of money for his macpro, so we shouldn't be able to get something similar without doing the same.
