Lovin' the environment killing, back straining CRTs dude :D. Seriously though; did you know LCDs use ONE THIRD of the power, and are about 1/8th the weight of a CRT?!.
This is a friendly retort not meant to offend anyone.
Even though LCD monitors use less power, they do not give as good a display as a CRT. And, the useful life of the LCD monitor is much shorter than the CRT. Therefore, many more of them will find their way to the landfill.

Not to mention that CRTs can provide much greater color rendition than any of the entry-level LCD displays.

Just one more example of unlokia not knowing wtf she's talking about. :p

Oh you ARE friendly today!. So i don't know about sRGB profiles and colour gamut then, or broader colourspace?. I was talking about the ENVIRONMENTAL benefits, Mr Know-it-all. I worked repairing CRT tubes for three years - I may just know what's going on thanks.

Anyone knows that photographic professionals prefer CRT or at LEAST true 8-bit IPS tft displays... but then again, I wasn't referring to that issue. Assuming that I know nothing, would make YOU the know-it-all, by a twist of irony.

As I said - it was a FRIENDLY comment, but you HAD to turn it nasty huh!. You're one of those people who people "dare not" disagree with, because you're *GOING* to prove YOU are the cleverest kid in the class, no matter what the cost; I pity you.

I have a confession

I have just built a Hackintosh and I am writing this in Leopard :D

Asus PQ5 Pro
Q6600
4gb Ram
Ati 2600 xt

Love it :apple:

I hear the P5Q is a great mobo. Out of interest, has anyone here made one on a SkullTrail (dual XEON) board yet?.

yea change the subject aye.

crt's r preety good. i got them 4 free so im not complaining!

Sorry - am I not allowed to smile now, either?... :p

READ my last post - it was friendly!.
the first thing u said wasnt, thus my rude reply.

CRT'S last longer than LCD's?? odd. i prefer LCDs basically because of their smaller desk space..

probably a very n00by question, but can i upgrade to say 10.5.5 using Software Update?? or will it kill it??...

It will most likely kill it. Wait for more news.

On a side note: I have a crappy 7200GS in my main machine and I need recomendations for a good gaming card (in the $100 neighborhood, from NewEgg)

I want to play EVE-Online a little smoother :p

ohh ok thanks very much for that.

DONT go the 8500 if you have 2 CRT's because it wont work!!! haha.

should be fine with an 8600 :p

well the 8800 would be much better than the 8600 clearly (its a bigger number) haha.

im just saying the 8600 because it is exactly $100 from newegg and the 8800's lowest is $150..

True that. I think I've picked out a good 8600, but I really have no idea what makes one video card better than another. Check this one out:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150260

Listed as fully compatible on the HCL, and looks good for EVE.

i SERIOUSLY think you should consider this...$110!!

as opposed to the one your looking at

Chipset Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Core clock: 540MHz
Stream Processors: 32
Memory Clock: 1400MHz
DirectX: DirectX 10
OpenGL: OpenGL 2.0
DVI: 2
TV-Out: HDTV / S-Video Out

i just think it would be better, its pretty darn cheap too... not the best, but certainly better than the 8600.

P.s. it doesnt say it here but the 8800 has 256-bit and the 8600 only has 128bit memory bus doohickeys

thats really good and all man, but it think its a bit too pricey for the OPOTT.....so i donno. take it up with him

he was looking at the 8600GT and i was asking what you thought of the card i will get. only 40 bucks more for an overclock and better cooling. but that one you found is more than a deal, its a bargain.

ohhh i see!!!!

yes its pretty impressive! im not that fond of MSI though, but its pretty worth it for the price. id rather go the cheaper version and OC it myself though because it would be cheaper, im a cheap ass haha.

Just upgraded to 10.5.5 via Software update. Had to run the GA-P35 .kext installer and add Time Machine fix additionally. No big thing - but watch out for AppleCPUPowermanagement.kext during install, and maybe have a backup of your install...
