I have the SATA hard drive set up to dual boot Leopard and XP. The IDE HD only has XP installed.

haha then im still the exact same setup.

my SATA has win XP + a basic installation of Leopard that i boot into if i stuff up the IDE install of Leopard (the main one i use). that way i can easily delete kext files if i have updated them etcetc.

waiting for a new desktop

I have to change my status from, I'm considering it right now to I already built one, because nothing happened on apples upgrade "pipeline" for desktops in the period this thread exist ...

Guys I am considering doing an hackintosh with this hardware:
DFI NF4 Ultra D 939 (or a nf3 ultra d 939 if I can find it)
Athlon 64 3000+ (the previous owner said it can overclock to 2.4/2.6Ghz)
2x1Gb Crucial Ballistix DDR500
BFG 7300GT OC 256Mb DDR2 (or if I can find the nf3,a 6800gt with ultra clocks modded to quadro FX4000 256mb ddr3)
Seagate 320gb Sata 2
Soundcard Terratec Aureon 7.1 modded to Audiotrack Prodigy (from what I've read it won't work,so I have to use the ultra D onboard)

it will run good leopard?

My IDE HD is used for storing files and also for booting XP to test a downloaded file for security and reliability. Once I determine that a file is OK, I can then use it on the SATA HD and on my Compaq that runs XP only.

How much experience do you have with hacking? You will need a lot to configure your setup to run Leopard.

Is it possible to set up a Hackintosh guest OS X under Parallels running on a Mac? I know that Parallels allows for OS X server but not regular OS X. Parallels claims that they don't support regular OS X as a guest OS for licensing/legal reasons, but this doesn't make sense after reading Apple's EULA. Installing a 2nd OS X on Apple hardware does not violate the license agreement.

It's my first hackintosh...
From what I've seen in the osx86 wiki:
DFI NF4 Ultra D - works all
7300GT - works
SOundcard - there are drivers being developed for it.. but the onboard one works I think.
What I need to configure "a lot"?
thanks for the help :=D

Although technically it is their hardware, it is being installed on a VM which is virtual hardware. Possibly just an issue of them not wanting to support it.

i dunno, how about you research yourself on the individual components and see if they are compatible?

maybe i am just on IM too much and see soo many "will xx systems work with leopard" questions that it drives me insane

Doesn't IM have a hardware compatibility list on the wiki?

One thing is what is on wiki (wich I already stated), other thing,is asking,if it will run good...by other words,if it has the power too..
I am not stupid @ the point of coming here to ask something that is written in wiki...

Yes, those specs would have the power to run OSX. No, it won't run all that great. If you're going to do it, use Intel stuff.

so I'm working on my new system and I'm using a SATA HD for the first time..

Im using iPC universal and I get stuck with a still waiting for root device.. Any tips on what I should do? never had this problem before..

Okay... so, I am going to build my first Hackintosh in about a week, and a friend and I have chosen a list of parts. I've heard from people on here that this stuff will more or less work, but (and I know I should search IM, I'm gonna do that, please forgive me) I wanted to know if there are any glaring problems.

I NEED audio to work. Will be using the motherboard's audio.

I have a Linksys 802.11g wireless PCI card that shows up as an Airport card in a Gf, so I'm good wi-fi wise.

Parts list:

- Antec Three Hundred case
- Corsair 400W PSU
- Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L Micro ATX motherboard (suggestions under $75? I prefer 4 RAM slots.)
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
- Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 CPU
- Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model PVS24G6400LLK
- Samsung DVDRW
- EVGA GeForce 8600GTS
- XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler

All for about $500 shipped after rebates.

What do you think?

(I downloaded iATKOS 5i, will that be a good version?)

Thanks, everybody! I really appreciate it! :)

^looks like a decent build. iAtkos is a good disc, but if you find that it doesnt boot from the dvd right give the iPC disc a shot. iPC is also a 10.5.6 install, so no need to update anything right away.

why are you going for a tiny micro ATX board in a mid ATX case? you would get more features for the price going for an ATX board.

you can get a 2.8 GHz E7400 Wolfdale for the same price as the 2.4 GHz E4600 Allendale on Newegg.

also if you not overclocking RAM dont go for the deluxe RAM brands with heatsinks. even though the Patriots on Newegg are $30 atm with the discount (normally $55) i would go for G.SKILL or Kingston at around $40.

Thanks.... so the audio and graphics will work without too much trouble?

thats just something youre going to have to research as we cant guide you through the steps here. through my research ive found Gigabyte P35 and P45 board to be good for me. Nvidia 8 series and 9 series graphics will work fine its just audio and sometimes ethernet thats a hastle. i suggest having a look on the OSx86 wiki.

Any ATX boards you'd like to suggest for a similar price?

BTW, the E4600 is because I am buying my friend a GTX260 and he's giving me a 8600GTS and the E4600 and cash.

Already done, my friend is an idiot.

Okay, thanks, I'll research all that. Look above for my bolded statements

Graphics wont be a problem with nvkush or even efi srtings (the point is that it will work, lol). The audio i am pretty sure will work. Its the alc662 chipset (i think), and im pretty sure mos tof the alc sets are working. If you can find a GA-P35-whatever board i would suggest you check it out. P35 chipsets work nicely. I have a p35 board and everything works 100%.
i tried a few things but im stuck :(
What mobo are you using? You probably just need to install a driver for the sata.

I have a hackintosh and my issue is that i cannot get Quartz Extreme enabled... Attempted EFI strings and everything...
