I had the Pebble for a while and the lack of integration with Apple devices really bothered me. The Apple Watch is the perfect pairing device with the iPhone, and I wasn't able to get most of what I wanted with the Pebble. I sold it after a few weeks because I never used it. I also don't like the appearance of it,and Apple is one of the only companies that really considered people with small wrists.
Absolutely. The Pebble doesn't do much with iOS, it just displays notifications, lets you control music, and answer/end calls. It seems like its big thing is it's own apps, which are all pretty shallow really.

I might have mentioned before that I wanted a smart watch as a remote control for when I use my big headphones. That's all I really wanted out of the Apple Watch but it didn't deliver when compared to the Pebble. As a remote I'm more interested in physical buttons I can operate through clothing than the benefits the Apple Watch has (like navigating playlists).

The problem with all these devices though is they're only hinting at what's to come. Pebble will no doubt fade away and the Apple Watch will become another main line in Apple's hardware. By that time we should have some incredible tech in these things.

OP here: I ended up re-purchasing an Apple Watch SS 42mm about a month ago. I just needed to come around. So far, I've been wearing it every day and don't plan on stopping. watchOS2 is great and will really open up the power of the device.

The overall appearance. I'll admit, this is a first world problem at best, but despite the exceptional fit-and-finish of the Watch, it's still very bulky. It feels like I strapped a rock onto my wrist. Seriously. I know that Apple tried their best to cram everything into the Watch, but it's still pretty thick.

Hi, just curious, do you think you would have liked the overall feeling more if it were a round watch?

Taking mine back today. I've had it almost a week and whilst it's good it doesn't really do (for me) much more than my Pebble. At least not £520 worth of new features.

Glad I gave it a go though if only to get me to wait for Gen 2.

I returned my iPhone 6s today. It was good but didn't really do it for me. It was comparable to my old Nokia. Def. not $1000 extra worth of features. But I'm glad I tried the 6s, if only to get me excited for the iPhone 7.

Oh god the rabbit hole goes deeper. Just fired up a random page to see why others were returning theirs. Are you just patrolling this thread? Because that's a bit odd. Why did you return your Apple Watch?

I sold my wife's apple watch as it just wasn't smart enough, just a glorified notification device for the wrist. She was jealous of the smartwatch I had that actually has a simcard inside and it's own cellular bands. My smartwatch can not only Bluetooth to my phone but can remotely connect to my phone without the need to carry both devices around. If you haven't guessed it, yes it is the gear S.

Isn't that the super ugly wrap around watch from Samsung that they are giving away for less than $100 now? Do you have to pay a monthly charge for that watch? Honestly, I don't know. I wish the Apple Watch didn't need my phone to do 100% that the phone can do but I'll take 75% to look great and not look like I need to see a doctor to remove the growth from my arm. The Apple Watch is very professional looking and the right size. Some even want it smaller.

Actually, I will never blame anyone for returning their watch if they want to be Dick Tracy and pay an extra monthly fee and look ugly.

But thanks for letting us know. :)

I'm teasing by the way.

It is the bigger and better looking screen watch to be precise. I pay 5 dollars to add it to my plan which means unlike the apple watch I leave my phone at home and go do my business and it will still function. I don't have to go looking for WiFi like my wife and others i know do/did with the apple watch to do anything standalone. The fact is while you talk about how it looks, most people say it looks better than the apple watch and is much easier to use. And the fact that you have to keep your iPhone in your pocket makes my gear S way smarter than the apple watch.

I'm now waiting on the Gear S2 now with again it's own cell service so I can continue to be detached from my phone unlike others that think they have a somewhat smartwatch. you can claim looks all you want but when my gear S is on my wrist people are like what smartwatch is that. WIfe when she wore her apple watch people hardly noticed because it looks like a watch you see little girls wearing from dora to hello kiddy.

I was really just teasing but there is a reason it is selling for $99. No one wants that ugly thing on their arm. I agree with you on the separation of watch and phone and doing almost everything. But I wouldn't be caught dead with that on my arm. You won't get much sympathy here posting about your superior $99 watch. There are good and bad but quality and professional will always win. That and apple always finds a way to put out a better product that drives Samsung people here to post.

It is superior sorry to say and is $99 because 1) it came out last year 2) The second generation of the S is due out in October. Just because something cost more doesn't make it better. The S was one of the first major smartwatches that set the bar for others that followed. The theory of a smartwatch is so that it will add to or make the smartphone experience better. If all it can do is duplicate notifications that the phone already has than its nothing but a device to view notifications on.

And IMO if it can't function on it's own when you are out of range of the smartphone it's just another device to carry and get redundant information. Or in the case of the apple watch and android wear, without a phone means it does nothing.

overly annoyed how bad the SGS is wearing.. I got an approval to do a return directly from executive relations. watch is going back.

Maj71303, did you just say 'most people think it looks better than the Watch'?

'Most'? Who are these most people. You didn't ask me. You didn't ask the ten professional designers who I work with who all agree the Watch looks better than the competition by far. Your mates might agree but for all I know they may have zero design flair/taste.

It's without a doubt, 100%, no arguments, that the Apple Watch looks better than the rest of the competition.

LOOOOL. Busted.

The new forum software MacRumors is running makes it too easy to keep on top of new posts to threads. I had an assignment due at Uni and was looking for any kind of distractions. Anyway, assignment is in so my input to this thread will probably tail off now.

That S Gear 2 interests me. I didn't even know about that, will have to research it and the upcoming one. I still feel a bit burned from the Apple Watch. And what with the circular Pebble up for preorder I'm really considering upgrading my old KS Pebble to one of these new devices.

Well I asked eleven top professional grade designers, all of whom are vegan, drive electric cars, and frequently donate blood. They all agreed that that the AW didn't look as good. Ha ha! What do you think now?

I joke of course. I'm just poking fun at the way you worded it. It was all very "well my dads stronger than your dad".

Honestly though, the S Gear 2 is huge and there's no way it's made to fit smaller wrists. How did they determine the curve on that thing? I do design work and have researched smart watches, and I think the Apple Watch is the best looking one (at the moment), especially because it has so many casual and formal band choices that can complete your outfit.

Hi, just curious, do you think you would have liked the overall feeling more if it were a round watch?

When the screen is off or I just need to view the time, yes, but the square dimensions is definitely more practical when viewing information. The round form factor is classic, but too focused. I think that over time as smartwatches become more commonplace, the notion around a round watch will be pushed further into a niche. Remember, smartwatches are a relatively new compared to a device that's been practically unchanged for hundreds of years.

BTW: I should add that the analog clock faces feel tacky and out of place to me. I think that may have to do with the apple watch mainly using modern looking bands and the square face. I think that if the face was round then it would make much more sense.

I got a Apple Watch and really just didn't like the user experience. Plus, I couldn't justify the price tag.

It was my first piece of 'wearable tech' and I like the concept and the promise the industry holds, but Apple' execution left me disappointed...

A buddy of mine put me on to the Dreamband. Its by a new company called Dreamcanyon and I didn't have to shell out an arm and a leg for this bad boy. I expect it to be on shelves next to Pebble, moto, etc within the next few months.

Anyway, Apple watch.. great concept, eh execution. Gen2, I am waiting.

This isn't directed at the OP personally, but rather a general rant at what I perceive as cycnical, jaded, and unfair scrutiny for this new Apple product.

How jaded have we become that we can scoff and yawn over this fricking computer that we wear on our wrist. A little computer with a beautiful retina display, constructed with such beauty and precision----a little computer that can free us from constantly pulling our phone out of our pocket or running to our phone to see what this ding, or that beep was for.

First off, it is a watch, and a beautifully constructed one at that, and very accurate, and it's customizable!!! A regular mechanical watch has one watch face, and that's it, forever! With an Apple Watch, not only do you have a decent supply of watch faces, but each one is customizable! YOu can display weather, activity tracking, stock market info, your next calendar appointment!

I mean sheesh----plus, it's no bigger than most mechanical watches out there. It's smaller than the Fossil watch I used to wear before, but now is gathering dust because the battery died and I never went to replace it.

"But do you need it" ---of course not! We don't need 99% of what Apple sells. I got along just fine with my old flip phone back in the day. But would I give up my iphone now? Hell no!

You don't need automatic door locks or windows in your car either, the old crank, or manual unlock works just fine, you just have to reach over and do it......but how many of us insist on those features in our next car?

It's all about convenience.....

I think the Apple Watch is amazing. I'm tired of everyone who doesn't "get it", trying to convince the rest of the world why it sucks.

</rant>
Thank you! No one should acquire a produce based on another's perspective on the relevancy of said product. This is precisely why the market provides much more than one consumer would ever need. Something for everyone. That said, if this product is not to one's liking, then, by god, move on to something that is! It is, and never has been, anyone's right to say what is or is not right for another. Least of all, what is too expensive apart from one's own experience of value.

Why have you posted this in a thread about returning the Apple Watch?

Oh god.

Even if I didn't return my Watch, I thought to share my experience with the product because the majority of the users are returning it because they don't justify the price.

Everything about it is quite well made. Personally I'd prefer it a bit thinner, it makes my Casio G-Shock look like its on a diet! And I'm not a fan of how it looks, too. I like how the display seems to melt into the bezel, but not the shape of the casing.

Well yeah. But that mechanical watch isn't going to age out in a few years.

Well thats your own fault if you don't replace the battery. The same happens with the Apple Watch though... if the battery dies on that you'll need to replace it, too, and it'll cost a lot more. And that's even if they still make those batteries (can you buy iPhone 1 batteries still?) down the line.

I think the Apple Watch is amazing. I'm tired of everyone who doesn't "get it", trying to convince the rest of the world why it sucks.
I love wearables and yeah, you either like them or you don't. The Apple Watch currently isn't perfect for me, and having sampled some wearables over the years I'm ready to commit to one "super" device. But I took my Apple Watch back because it's not that perfect device, at least not for the price. I'm going to need a little bit more before I join the world of having to spend £500 every few years. Because I agree, once you get used to these things you can't stop using them!

I usually love Apple products but not the watch. I bought it twice and returned it. I first bought the Black/Space Gray 42mm when it was available at an Apple Store on a trip. I thought it was cool for 2 days and then didn't feel I wanted to mess with it. It really didn't do anything but alert me that I had a twitter message or a text. It was cool how you could speak reply to the text on the watch, but I still didn't find much use for it. Gave it another chance with Watch OS 2 and it still didn't impress me, so returned it and vowed not to mess with watches again, plus the cost of $425 with tax was just too much for no more than it did.

I'm done, my two are going back. It's slow, fairly unresponsive and doesn't do what I was told it would do at the store. For example 70% of the time I cannot answer a call from the watch. If I place one from the watch it often fails mid call. I have an extensive wifi network and zero interference from others since I'm the only one for miles. Nice toy but not that nice.
