The newness wore off after a while, and I just couldn't justify the functionality for the cost. Yes, there were some helpful features, but for me, nothing worth $600+. The other issue was that I do not need another Apple product in my life that has a two-year upgrade cycle. A great watch should last a lifetime. This is a gadget with a life span. (Although, as a shareholder, I do appreciate their business model. :) )

Aren't those factors all things you knew about before you ordered it?

I get this and hey, at least you tried it out for a little while before jumping the gun so it sounds like you made an informed decision.

As for upgrading, while we're not obligated, we certainly feel compelled when the latest and greatest comes out. So jumping off the bandwagon will likely save thousands in upgrade costs.

You are required when it no longer works, technology does that

A Rolex service will cost about the same ~$400, but that is Rolex. Typical mechanical watches cost around $100 for service.

Not sure who is servicing your Rolex. If you go through Rolex for service, it is $800 at minimum, and that's assuming no parts need to be replaced. If anything needs replacing, the number jumps quickly.

You know exactly what I'm talking about.

No, I don't have any idea what you are saying or why it would bother you that it has a two year upgrade cycle.

My original iPad still does everything it did when I bought it and, in fact, I am typing on it right now. You can still buy a new iphone 5s from Apple and that came out almost 2 years ago and people are still using the iPhone 3gs.

Sure, the newer iPad does more things, but that doesn't mean that I am required to upgrade it.

Complaining that it has a 2 year upgrade cycle is just silly because the only reason you would upgrade is to...wait for it...get more feature/functionality. That is no reason to be unhappy with the original purchase.

Cars have new feature/functionality every year.
So do TVs
And Computers
And Stereos
And Microwave ovens
And Lawn mowers

The newness wore off after a while, and I just couldn't justify the functionality for the cost.

Going in depth with the reasoning for why a customer is returning a product is really useful info. Ive got a few more days left to decide what to do with mine so I'd love to hear more opinions from honest users. But unfortunately those sort of opinions (and the people who make them) get labeled as "negative" and are harassed out of their threads so I'll just say that I know how you feel and I hope I make the right decision. :D

Smart move. I returned my $600 farce after 6 days.

This is pretty much the case for all smartwatches. Some like the functionality it brings, others find it not as beneficial.

I think the best thing going for Apple is that they design the hardware and software so it's easy to push software updates quickly as we saw with 1.01.

I just sent my 42mm space black link bracelet apple watch back to apple.

Reasons for return. (Mini review)

1. iPhone can do the same things + more than the watch can.
2. Battery life was horrible (Had to charge once a day)
3. Effected iPhone battery as well
4. My link bracelet had issues I have a thread with pictures (if anyone wants to take a peak)
5. Couldn't reply back to emails
6. Couldn't reply back to messages unless using siri (Don't want others around me to hear what I have to say)
7. Made few calls on it didn't think the speakers/quality was good enough.

What I liked.
1. Beautiful design
2. Map was awesome
3. Quick notification on your wrist

Final thoughts : In my personal opinion I don't think its worth $1099 + tax $1190 (CA TAX) for the apple watch just because its just your iPhone on your wrist. I just didn't find it useful to me. Whatever I can do on my phone was just the same thing I could've done on the watch.

My thoughts for now on the first gen Apple watch.

I did the same with my 42mm SBSS. The battery in that model couldn't last a day, but my SS BSB lasts two days easily.

The quality control on the SB model is atrocious it seems. I'll try the Space Black again when version 2 launches, maybe.

Apple should have done better on this one; such a disappointment.

My watch will arrive tomorrow so I'll finally get to make a decision of my own.

That said, I think I'll be happy as rather then hurrying up and buying. I waited until I have enough info that was comfortable with to justify the purchase.

#1 I think you should have known going in. #2 and #3 are surprising -- I do remember seeing several threads about an impact on phone battery, but for most people it seemed not to net much difference. The watch I've never had anything less than 40% at the end of a long day. #5 was just announced as included in the new OS version coming this fall.

Those last two are issues I experience as well... I don't really use it for calls because the speaker is so weak.

In any event, sorry it wasn't for you.

None of those things were important to me.My life is quiet now , in that I don't hear any beaps or bells or dings or anything else coming out of my phone , and at the end of the day I've sorted out on my emails and texts and only the important ones remain. For that, the watch works for me. I never expected anything else.

Since many of those things were obvious if you knew even a little bit about the watch before you purchased it, I would question what you expected? Or were you just buying it to see if you'd want to keep it?

This is a good summation of why I returned mine.

TBH I bought it to resell it for a profit but I also had my eye on it. So I decide it to keep it and use it and see if I like it or not. I only used it for 8 days I received it on June 1st. I thought about reselling it on eBay but since the clasp has issues I figured why sell it and deal with issues with the buyer or even sell someone the watch that has a faulty bracelet. So i just wrapped it up in the same box it came in and printed the fedex return label and off it went.

No disrespect intended, but couldn't you just posted on one of the MANY threads on this topic?
I could've but honestly I wanted to bring attention/awareness to others buying the watch as well and usually people don't go in threads and start reading every single post. So I thought a new thread on a buyers point of view of the apple watch can help others on their decisions. I thought the Apple watch was more than what the iPhone could've done. But I was incorrect. Maybe 2nd gen or 3rd gen would be good.

I remembered buying iPad 1 and now I'm using the iPad air 2 - really big difference. Incomparable.

I figured it was something like that. Your post seemed like that of someone who wasn't sold on the idea at all. Nothing wrong with that but it definitely reads that way too.

Yes your right i was not sold on the idea at all! I was just constantly reading this forums and when people were talking about the watch (especially this model that i had my eye on) got me all hyped up.

So, your actual reason for returning it was because you couldn't resell it with a defective bracelet?

Why make a huge list? Most of the stuff you listed was fully disclosed before preorders started.
