I'm sorry but Win-Loss records should mean absolutely nothing.

The Cy Young Award is supposed to go to the best PITCHER. Saying that CC Sabathia deserves the award is just ridiculous. Felix Hernandez was the best pitcher in the league by far...

Not only did he destroy average teams, but he went 57 innings, and only gave up 4 runs against the AL East... So any theory that "CC Sabathia deserves it because he pitches in the AL East" is ridiculous.

Again Ill go to my other post if it wasnt for CC the Yankees may not even been in the Playoffs he was there most reliable starter this year.

And Andy is chopped liver? :p He was reliable up to his injury and so far don't know who we got in his return. We had one good start and one bad. Tomorrow we should see if he rebounds.

True, Sabathia was the most reliable starter for the NYY this year. With that said, take away his wins total (which is more a factor of his ~7 runs per game offensive support than anything he did) and he wouldn't even be in the Cy Young discussion. The only thing Sabathia did better than Felix this year was sit on the bench while his team scored runs.

And to negate the "Al East is harder" argument...Look at Felix's body of work against the AL East....he was a beast. Sub 2.00 ERA against the division, and sub-1 ERA in 3 starts against NYY. Oh, and he had a better ERA against playoff-contending teams than Sabathia did.

There is absolutely no reason why Felix Hernandez doesn't get the Cy Young award and CC does...

Giving CC Sabathia the award means that the Cy Young award is both:

1. A team award - since clearly if wins and losses matter than you need to be on a good offensive team.

2. A popularity contest - I already knew this to some extent, but this year if CC wins it there is no doubt in my mind that the Cy Young award means NOTHING now.

CC Sabathia is consistent, but is he 30 QUALITY STARTS consistent? Who has the lower ERA? More strikeouts? Less walks? More innings? That's right. Not CC Sabathia.

I am not even a Mariners fan, I am a Twins fan, but I am also a baseball fan and giving Sabathia the award just ruins baseball.

How much do we have to pay Burnett?
I don't see the Yankees resigning Berkman if they do get Crawford. We're definitely not resigning Johnson or Vazquez. I also hate Kearns. We need to ditch him. We need to push for Cliff Lee as well this off season. We also need to go and get another starter because Andy will most likely retire after this season. My rotation for next year would be CC, Lee, Andy/replacement, Burnett, and then Hughes. Jeter(duh), Rivera( duh), Wood, and Thames should be resigned.
The way Burnett pitched this year I would make Hughes the number 3 starter next year then Petitte if he returns and Burnett 5.

I'm actaully kinda glad the Yankees got the wild card I fell better facing Minnesota than Texas right now cause lets face it the twins haven't been hot as of late.

Well, I kinda wanted San Diego to be in (to represent the token low-budget team), though SFO is my traditional NL favorite. My ideal WS with the final brackets now in place: Twins vs Giants :)

That could be a great one.

I can see SF getting past Atlanta, but if they go against Philadelphia, it will be an uphill battle. But I can also see Atlanta beating San Francisco if the Giants don't get their pitching up to par.

SF has to get their usually great pitching perfectly consistent if they want to make it through these playoffs and into the world series. They can't clone Lincecum or use him too much as doing that has made him less of a threat than one could expect from a back to back national league Cy Young winner. Consistent pitching has haunted the Giants in the last two visits to the world series and the press in the city has always been so enamored with how well and how big the Giants hit (Clark, Williams, Bonds, etc). But if you can't pitch your best, there is no chance of winning the world series.

Completely agree. Most people didn't notice that Seattle had one of the lowest run-scoring seasons in the last few decades. They were historically bad at scoring runs. In only two losses did he give up more than three runs. Felix absolutely deserves to win it, but probably won't, like Nolan Ryan in 1987.

At first I didn't agree with your statement and thought Cy Young was based on simply win-loss, era, and strikeouts. But upon further research there are many factors, most of which I will never really understand, which go into how people vote for pitchers.

It will be interesting to see who gets the AL and NL nods. The freak (#55) in San Francisco put up similar all around numbers again compared to the field and he could be the second only NL guy to have a three-peat on his resume. With one of his two back to back Cy Youngs, he had a slightly only a higher than average win record, but the guy seems to strike out the best when it counts. Sometimes Lincecum throws a pitch that looks like a lob, but then it ends up clocking a fast speed, yet looks like it started very high and then it drops very fast.

I don't know how he does this and it must really be maddening for batters. It's also hard to time his pitches and obviously outside foul pitches seem to wind their way over the corner of the plate. I am glad we have him here in the Bay Area and that the Yankees don't have him.

Yup, there's more to pitchers than W/L, ERA, and Ks. Frankly, W/L shouldn't even matter--not at all in the American League, anyways. In no way is a pitcher who throws a 8-inning shutout for a 1-0 win any better than a pitcher who throws the same 8 innings, but doesn't get a win because his team either loses in the 9th, or wins in the 9th after another pitcher has taken over.

If the NL Cy doesn't go to Roy Halladay, then they might as well cancel it this year. Let's recap: he led the NL in wins, complete games, shutouts, innings pitched, walks per nine innings and strikeout-to-walk ratio. He had more starts (33) than walks (30). That is not a misprint.

Only four teams (one being Philadelphia) had more complete games than Halladay. That's one that makes me smile.

That should cover all, unless overall strikeouts, BO, and WHIP are not included in these stats. But Roy sounds solid for Cy Young.

Got to add that perfect game in there as well....

If Halladay doesn't win the NL Cy Young, I would be shocked. The AL is tighter. Felix does deserves it, but the poor team he plays on does hurt him if we like it or not. CC and Price are the other ones in contention with Lester being the wild card.

Why are they calling Larson's game a no hitter. He is still the only one to be perfect in the post season.

Yep that just sealed Hallidays Cy Young performance No hitter Game 1 as much as i hate Philly sports i gotta say this guy is wicked.

The voting is done before the post season, this game means nothing.
