I guess that's what it comes down to. I just simply don't care. It's not something i think about often. It's such a small part of who i am, i also go to school and work with kids at my job and volunteer when i can and donate to charity. If pirating is my only personality flaw, then i'm a very lucky person. :)

Yes, you work so very hard. What about those who worked hard to create the media that you are pirating?

Want someone to come to your job and have you perform a service or give them a product and then tell you, "oh I was going to pay you but I just simply don't care. It's such a small part of who I am..."

Get real guys.

I never pirate software.

Movies/TV shows... it depends. In the majority of cases, I don't pirate. If I want to watch something, I add it to my Netflix queue. Easy enough.

The exception is: if a movie or TV show has no subtitles or captions, and subtitles are provided by the community (.srt, .sub, etc), I pirate the movie/TV show.

I have a question for anyone here who's against piracy. If you have a DVD, and your friend asks you to borrow it so he can make a copy or stream it to his apple tv, what would you say? "No, buy your own copy."?

Still not the same an pirating software. If people have pirated gym memberships, we lose floor space and our paying members may have to wait on line to use a certain machine. When i pirate software, paying customers don't lose anything and aren't inconvenienced in anyway, other than the fact they had to get their wallet out and enter their credit card number and i skipped that step.

Really? Paying customers are not impacted when the company goes out of business because you steal from them instead of pay for their product?

Total rationalization not based in reality.

So after a jailbreaker buys your app you screw them by not allowing the app they paid for to run? So essentially you are stealing their money.

No, because Apple will happily give you a refund for purchased software that does not work. We also clearly state that our software will only run on an unmodified device when we check for jail break today.

That's assuming that the people who pirate the software would have paid for it if they couldn't pirate it, which most would not. I know i sure as hell wouldn't. A lot of stuff i pirate just because i can, not because i necessarily need it. I browse my favorite mac devoted torrent site on a regular basis just to look for things to download that i don't really need, but just for fun.

Why is no one answering this question? It must be so easy to preach morality to people on the internet, but when i actually ask you a personal question about what you would do in a real life situation that involves pirating, no one answers. I think the reason for that is that no one would deny their friend that dvd, even though they know what that friend will use it for.

I can say honestly that none of my friends have ever asked me to lend them a DVD so they can rip it and/or play it on their Apple TV.

Fine. I have access to all the guest passes i want, so i would let them in. Your turn.

:p

I would most likely let them borrow it. I am against piracy and have had this discussion before with friends and told them I'm against it.

In case you don't know I'm a bit opinionated so I would most likely tell them straight up and hope they understood.

My answer is yes I would and have done that.

I have said I will loan it to you to watch providing you do not rip it and I stick to that point.
I trust my friend and they know if they went against that promise it would be the last time I would ever loan then a DVD.

You liemyorbs are a cheap skate. You do not want to pay for anything. You are stealing people intellectual property plan and simple. You are not paying them for their work.

But the point is you would let them borrow it knowing what they will do with it, so you would contribute to pirating because it's not worth straining a friendship over a stupid disc. Which is the point i'm trying to make. It may be immoral/illegal, but it's often done and really not very important.

LOL. cheapskate? tell that to my friends on christmas. i just don't pay for things i can get for free, and probably more quickly too. If i could download a Mac, i probably would. You don't seem like you would be a very fun friend, some people take life wayyy too seriously. What's the difference if your friend copies it or if he just watches it and gives it back?

I highly doubt that. I'm sure you would give your friend that dvd.

How do you know what I would do?

My friends don't rip DVD's, so it's not a very realistic question for me. However, if they wanted to borrow something so they can rip it, I'd probably a) give it to them to keep or b) just buy them their own copy.

I've purchased Cars about 5 times, because my son loves to play with the DVD and scratch it. Could I have ripped it and just keep burning it to play in the car DVD player? Yes...but honestly...he gets a ton of joy out of watching it and I don't mind paying for it.

OK, that's not moral, it's just foolish.

Says the guy who's never gone and would never, ever go to a strip club. That's just un American and not fun at all.

We all have different definitions of fun and right and wrong...and believe it or not just because some people don't agree with you doesn't mean they're lying about it.

I'm devasted you think so.

Yeah i guess i just have a hard time believing that someone would loan a dvd (or anything for that matter) to a friend to make a copy of. I've never encountered that outside of this website, so it's just intriguing to me.
