If iOS would only adopt Android type notifications, it would perfect.!! The way texts messages\emails display in the taskbar is genius!

How Cool

It is that simple for all that are asking :D

I have just downloaded xcode 3 for free connected my ipad and the code automatically activates Multitasking Gestures!

And yes it does feel as if it should have been part of the iPad from the off as it is so fluid! i just need to break the home button habit now!

The only reason i think it has not gone into public release is because some apps use 4 & 5 finger swipes! I have just loaded up Fruit Ninja HD and when you do a 4 finger slice it activates multitasking! but you do have the option to disable multitasking gestures in settings if you find it clashes with your apps.

But i can imagine this will be addressed between Apple & Developers if it goes into global release :D

Hijack threads much? Really, what does this have to do with the 4- and 5- finger gestures that are available under iOS 4.3 that we're all talking about?

The gestures do not work perfectly, but they are still great.

When in Atomic Web Browser the 4 finger gesture to reveal the multitasking bar at the bottom will also switch the app to full screen browsing, which is an example of the gestures over-riding specific app's gesture programming...

love the 5 finger pinch to bring you back to the home screen, also 4 finger left or right to switch you between apps without even needing to go into the multitasking bar.

Also, not positive, but I think developer tools (xcode) is on the OS X install disks...? (ver 3) no need to DL.

I've just installed xCode (3.2 which came with my OS disk) and have gone to Window => Organizer but my iPad doesn't appear on the left (Projects & Sources). In fact, there's nothing there.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Wow I am shocked by how much I love the 4/5 finger gestures! It really transforms the experience. There is something decidedly analog about pushing a button :)

Happy to leave it behind. I wonder if Apple will on iPad 3...

I think you have your ideas about analog/digital completely wrong.

What

The home button is digital: it's either on or off, pressed or not, and is discrete.
Swipe gestures are closer to being analog: swipes offer continuous measures of length, direction, and speed.

EDIT: beaten, I think he's using 'analog' to mean 'old'

you don't have to keep Xcode 3 installed do you? just install, activate, and remove?

Also does this prevent updates should there be a 4.3.1 or 4.3.2 etc, update? Would I have to re-activate the features? (no one prob would know this one..)

This.

And, also to mean 'of or relating to the physical world' and digital to mean 'of or relating to the virtual world.'. As opposed to 'of or relating to fingers.' ;)

Can anyone post a good guide on how to activate the gestures using Xcode?

thanks in advance

It wouldn't prevent iOS update, but you'll have to reactivate after each update. At least, that was the case when updating from one bata to the next.

I'm dling as well...lol my SSD does not like it as I only have about 40 gigs left of 160:cool:

What is the difference between the Xcode 3 that you can download for free and the Xcode app that was just released today in the Mac App Store. Either will enable the gestures option, correct?

The Xcode in the store is version 4 and seems to have a lot of new and redesigned features. If all you want to do is enable gestures then either version 3 or 4 should be fine but if you want to get started with iOS or Mac programming I'd definitely pay for version 4.

Thank you. That helps clarifies a lot.
