That's true. I don't know that much about Portland history but I believe they have had a few picks like this. I may be wrong.

Two cases in point:

1) Bill Walton, who basically had a 1.5 seasons of good health, during which he won the MVP and Portland won the NBA title in 1977. The rest of his time in Portland was riddled with injuries. He really is the classic case of a great player who could have been even greater, through no fault of his own.

2) Sam Bowie, drafted ahead of Michael Jordan, and never coming close to achieving the expectations people had for him because of injuries. (Olajuwon was also drafted ahead of Jordan, but that pick is pretty defensible considering how great he turned out to be.)

are we gonna acknowledge that miami sucks yet?

One game ahead of my beloved knicks. . . This season has brought nothing but joy. . .

Miami is tanking
Knicks are at .500
The young guys at OKC are killing it

The only thing that could be better is greg oden not getting hurt, I feel so bad for the guy. . .

Man, it feels good again to be a Knicks fan. 7th win in a row, Amare's 7th 30+ point game in a row...

Tough schedule ahead though. Let's go KNICKS!!

Amare is having an MVP season so far. I know he's not going to be able to keep this up for the rest of the season, even at 80% of his current level of performance (which would translate to around 25 ppg), but he's definitely the MVP to his team, which is what the MVP award should be all about, IMO.

And speaking of MVP, I think that the league should introduce another award for "Best Player". I don't normally encourage more awards being given out, but this is a situation which warrants another award in order to clear things up. MVP shouldn't necessarily be about being the best player in the league. Some players may be the 2nd, 3rd, or even 10th best player in the league statistically (which is already difficult to determine by looking strictly at numbers), and yet be more valuable to his team than any other player is to their respective team.

It's a Christmas miracle! :p

Seriously though, there are a few times that we shouldn't get intrigued by unless they make the playoffs, and the Knicks are one of them.

Yes sir, Miami is "tanking" baby :D Nine wins in a row, all by double digits. Only three teams have ever won 10 straight by double digits, and the Heat have a great chance to tie that mark Wednesday against the Cavs. They are tied for 1st for opp. PPG, 1st in opp. field goal %, and commit the least turnovers in the league. Not bad for a team that has 11 new players, and missing key contributors in Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem. They are on a roll now, and after Wednesday, it will get interesting when they have the Knicks, Mavs, and Lakers in an eight game span, starting Friday.

And the way they've been playing, they'll be making the playoffs. Can we be intrigued now?

Nope. Too much time left in the season to declare them a playoff team now, especially when it's a team that plays no defense. The 5th- through 10th-seeds in the East will be kind of interchangeable: good enough to make people wonder, but needing a miracle to get to the second round.

Similarly, I don't trust the people who are suddenly calling Dallas a potential Finals team. They've been a playoff team for the last ten years and have made the Finals once. And they've shown a recent propensity to choke in the playoffs. Until they actually get to the Finals, there isn't much reason to think they will. Not that it's their fault that people are saying that in December instead of June. They're playing pretty well right now.

However, Knick fans have been suffering for a long time. They can officially be intrigued by their own team. :D

Wow what a game good to the end Imo the knicks should have won Pierce desrved a T for that lil crap he pulled after the shot anyway I didnt think this game would go down to the wire. This Proves though Amare is in the Class running for MVP.

Boy did the Heat just whoop the Knicks! Smothering defense in the second half, which is becoming the norm for the Heat. They are really starting to get it going, which is what I expected after the first quarter of the season, and now they get Mike Miller back too. Next Saturday should be a great test to see how good they really are.

LA is going to destroy the Heat.

Yeah, they looked great. Looking forward to next Saturday and also the next time they face the Celts.

As for the Knicks, they just have to keep beating the crappy teams and work their way up. Hopefully some bench players step up. The starters are playing 40+ minutes every night, it seems.

The heat are OVERRATED.

Of course they are, especially considering that they had four players left over from last years squad, added, arguably, the best player in the game, a top five power forward, and nine other players. On top of that, they lose Wade all preseason, their best perimeter shooter in Miller, and heart and soul captain in Haslem, and they still managed to win 12 in a row, 11 of which have been by double digits. They are 1st in the league in points allowed, and hold opponents to the worst FG%. Yes, they are so overrated.

This team is exactly where I thought they would be at this time. Once Miller gets cleared, and settled into the rotation, they will be even better. Are there still question marks at center, yes, but Big Z, Anthony, and Dampier will suffice. Chalmers has been a boost for us at PG since returning to 100%, and that is a position that wont be as questionable, since we will probably see a LeBron-Wade-Miller-Bosh lineup to close games. Plus, December 15th has come and gone, so now Riley can go out and move pieces to try and make this team better, which included an injury exception they received for Haslem.
