The size of this new 13" is not that much bigger then the old 11"

The new 13,3 in cm: 30,41 x 21,24 x 1,56
The old 11" in cm:; 30 x 19,2 x 1,7

Have to think about this or the new iPad Pro 11" ???
We'll see....

Why should I buy again? I have the 2015 MBA and I don't see a real incentive here.
I have no real upgrade choice from Apple now. MBA, MBP, MB...all have some kind of problem or turn off...
I don't have any incentive to buy from my 2017 MBA but I now know there is a future upgrade path in a year or two via Apple refurbs. I am disappointed in the price but the HW looks nice for a future machine during that part of the upgrade cycle. But I simply love my current 2017 MBA for what it is, right now.

I think the size is now the same as the 13" MBP(excluding thickness).

It’s sort of amazing than nothing about this company is about providing customer value anymore.

Seemingly every decision is about getting the average sales price up and driving upgrades.

I know they are running a business but good God

You know that the objective of the business is to make money right?

Yes I do.

There is a line where you can go too far though in the balance between value and customer satisfaction and Just extracting every last nickel.

Would you say that’s a fair take?

Gents how does this new Air spec/compare to the performance of say my current Pro. I have the early 2015 13 inch with the core i5 2.7 ghz
8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

Yeah I'm interested in that too.

I'm expecting that:
* the CPU will be faster in bursts but slower in sustained loads.
* the SSD will be the same or faster.
* the wifi will be the same or slower.

Overall I don't think it's a sensible upgrade from the 2015 13", but it'll be interesting to see once it's out in the wild.

There is a line, for sure. If the items are priced too high they won't sell and Apple will reduce the pricing. That's how the problem corrects itself.

Somehow, when I didn’t think it was possible, apples laptop lineup got even more confusing and aimless. What on earth are they doing? I think any of us ok this board with apples resources could manage their laptop offerings Better than they can. It is for 100% certain that the company across the board is now raising prices for every product they make. The Apple tax has increased and I am not sure I can stomach it anymore.

Then don't buy it. If you think it's too expensive (and you're perfectly entitled to think that) then don't buy it. When folks stop paying Apple's prices they will notice.

wasn't the idea of keeping the air in the line up because it had legacy ports?
What is the point of this thing now?

Maybe I am in the minority, but this is exactly what I wanted - a 12 in. MacBook + touch ID. I went from the 12 inch Macbook (and wanted more) to the 13" MBP with touch bar, and never use it, but I use the touch ID all the time. I hate the size of the MBP, and put up with it for Touch ID.

I already ordered - 8/128. I don't do anything data or graphic intensive, this is perfect. Just need to find a sleeve. Not paying $179 for the Apple one.

I have a 2012 MBA 11 inch that will need upgrading at some point but this new one is a little disappointing. Only two ports (I find this annoying on my work MBP) is a reduction of 50% of my existing MBA ports. Apple should at least put three with one on the opposite side. Also, 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage as a starting point? 2012 called, they want their specs back.

All-in-all I might just hang on to my current Air for a little longer.

This release has made me very disillusioned! I now regret not buying the 13" TB when the free Beats Headphone promotion was on :(.

I might wait till November 14th and do a complete U-Turn and purchase a Vega enabled 15" rMBP...

It is interesting how many moons ago with Steve he would edit the design process and they would put out “the device you want” with very little variation.

Now with Tim it seems to be that “we don’t really know what you want so we’re just gonna make every possible variation of something”.

It’s a total SKU fest

This isn't the computer for me. Maybe if it started with a 256GB ssd, but even then it's pretty expensive for what looks like a relatively slow cpu.

That CPU though... it's hard to tell how it will perform. Maybe with cooling the 5W chips can do a lot better.

It's funny that the Air name is so iconic that all of Apple's efforts to release an update, MacBook... and then nontouchbar Pro have fallen flat it seems.

I use an 2015 11" i7 256GB. It still seems like a great machine compared to what Apple has replaced it with. Not much of a CPU upgrade, and ram and SSD upgrades are not cheap. I'm still okay with the non-retina screen, it's not essential.

But why does that matter? Are you saying that you don't understand how to find the Macbook you need? I don't think you are. You and I may disagree on economics (and you'd be wrong :D) but you DO know how to find the MacBook you need right?

We all believed they would EOL the MacBook air... so really happy they did not ignore such a great laptop line.

I was surprised they acknowledged how popular the MacBook air is among its customers.

I've bought nothing but MacBook Air's since the first. (I have bought a couple generations MacBook pros as well but returned them because i did not see the benefit over an air for my daily use).

ONLY WISH: some kind of magsafe connector (from apple) for charging. (i never understood why they would remove a real "feature")

AT LEAST WE CAN EXPECT FUTURE CONTINUED UPDATES TO THE MACBOOK AIR LINE !

Exactly what I have been waiting for. Delayed getting an XPS or a Carbon. Luckily, I'll be living in China near Hong Kong. Will pick it up in Hong Kong. The exchange rate comes out to 1,210 USD while in China, it's 1,364$. Almost a 150$ price difference.

Honestly other than the name they pretty much did.

The new air is really a 13 inch retina MacBook and not a particularly good spiritual successor to what the previous MacBook Air offered in terms of value, flexibility and performance.

The CPU line downgrade is a big one
