Finally got my ship confirm from Apple on a black Verizon 64GB version. Not that I had any doubts it would be here on time :D

It is normal, every time I've preordered or ordered on the first day all kinds of screwy things happen. you'll have your iPad on the 16th..

my first iPad went from China to Alaska, back to china then it was in down south somewhere until the night before, but I still got it on time.

Totally agree, I've seen things all over the place as far as shipping and preparing to ship are concerned when pre-orders take place.

"Apple employee" can easily be a contractor, part of their normal logistics/shipping group. A "Genius" from an Apple Store isn't going to walk his nametag over to FedEx Distribution Center 12 in Backwater OH to unlock a truck. ;)

The trucks could also be secured by FedEx itself (and they're just using smoke and mirrors saying "private trucks/Apple employees"), with only a top level site supervisor in possession of the key. If there is a "leak" then there is only a small list of heads ripe for the chopping block.

We have an AT&T order fulfilment center in Ft. Worth. When a new iPhone comes out, we (FedEx) usually have off duty cops follow us to the sort facility to make sure we get there without being hijacked. Once the trailer is on the property, the FedEx security officers sit and watch the trailers like a hawk.

I have a UPS tracking # and just called to check on it and they told me that it's still in Kentucky and got thru customs there over the weekend and looks like it'll be delievered to me in the next day or 2 cause it was shipped overnight I asked didn't it have a hold status on it from Apple and the guy told me no it got thru customs so it shoud be delievered to you very soon :D

wow that would be nice!!

Ordered black 64GB wifi late onMarch 7th.
FedEx pick up : Mar 11, 2012 15:58 in Ontario CA, stating "future delivery requested"
Estimated delivery : Mar 16, 2012 by 15:00

Yes.

Same here, but mine says delivery on 3/16. Is that what you meant, instead of shipping 3/16?

Yes, I meant Standard Delivery on 3/16. I know some that have orders still processing like me have had their shipping changed to Next Day. Mine is still Standard.

Here I am less than a quarter mile away from my iPad sitting in a FedEx facility with a "future delivery requested" status. It's gonna be a loooooong week.

All of you freaking out because you have no change in your status need to chill. As many here have mentioned, this is exactly how every single other Apple pre-order situation has gone. Your status may or may not have updated to exactly what other people's status has, simply because it depends on the model you ordered, geographic location, when you ordered, etc.

If you ordered and your receipt says "Delivers on March 16," then you'll get it then. Stop obsessing.

Mine's been at 'Preparing for Shipment' since Sunday morning, and I have no doubt it'll be here on Friday as promised.

I don't believe you. I worry. In fact I am "freaking out...MAN"

Lol gosh that would be rough it being a quarter of a mile away and have to wait til Friday. I'm as anxious as you are to get mine lol, think we all are. Least we got our orders through in time cause now the estimate is 2-3 weeks.

Mine switched to "Preparing for Shipment" early this morning. I ordered
iPad with Wi-Fi + 4G LTE for AT&T 64GB - Black (3rd generation) on 3/7 around 3:30pm CST and I live in Alabama. hope that helps someone :D

WHAT!!!?

I just called Apple CS to politely ask if they were able to look up any details on my shipping because the FedEx number still shows not available. The lady looked it up and said it is scheduled for delivery Tuesday the 13th by 4:30pm. I was like "wha?". So instead of clicking on the link in the email or from Apple's site, I went to FedEx and pasted in the tracking. BOOM. That worked.

For anyone that cannot see their tracking that starts with 5, go to FedEx site and paste it in their tracking box. Also for what it's worth the girl said they they are trying to get them delivered BY the 16th. I said on the 16th you mean, she said by the 16th again. Ok not getting my hopes up but that would be amazing.

Add: Mine also says standard overnight.

finally got my shipping info on my Verizon 64 gb iPads. Whats interesting is that they are shipped separately. I have too tracking numbers.
What exactly does Future delivery requested mean. If it's at my local fex-ex hub early, can't I go just pick it up

No... where have you been?

Apple Store shipping estimates have been pushed to 2-3 Weeks.

I sold my iPad 2 three weeks ago, and have managed without it quite comfortably. When my 'The new iPad' comes on friday would it be worth selling on eBay for a profit and waiting for stores to have stock?

My guess is that the "preparing for shipment" could mean item is in warehouse in China preparing to ship.
"Delivers on March 16 via Standard Shipping" ,however,
might mean your item will arrive March 16 but Apple may ratchet up the
shipping to expedite arrival by March 16. All is good if this is accurate guess.

Ordered on the 8th and My Orders page says:

Preparing for Shipment

Delivers on March 16 via Standard Shipping

My iPad (white/64g/4G/AT&T/not engraved) has been in "Processing Items" since March 7th @ 4:00pm!

It might be part of the state-side stock and awaiting shipment in the next day or so... but it would be a relief just to see it change to shipping..... :apple:

STILL THE SAME!

Fedex won't deliver to a neighbour or leave it at your door, Apple requires a signature for their products!

Incorrect:

FedEx said:
Indirect Signature Required. FedEx will obtain a signature in one of three ways: From any person at the delivery address; or

From a neighbor, building manager or other person at a neighboring address; or

The recipient can sign a FedEx door tag authorizing release of the package without anyone present.

What does the Fedex site say for Delivery Date?
