I think everyone is already well aware that the delivery and release date is March 16th. No need to keep pointing that out.

As adults, many are trapped in jobs and schools with family obligations and stress and competing demands pulling at us from every direction. Christmas isn't even really a holiday for adults because of the stress of gift giving, travel, money, etc.

But a couple times a year, Apple releases a product that people preorder, and the delivery date is a day that is more akin to Christmas for a child. We digitally "peek" to see where our gift is, and hope and pray that we get it early, just like we did as children. This experience is arguably one that instills a child-like sense of wonder, anticipation and excitement.

For those of you who are more serious-minded and above all of this, that's fine. You're entitled. But for those of us who indulge our inner child once or twice a year, let us have that and all that it entails. This thread is a virtual space for people to share that. If you're not interested, don't participate. But don't sit in judgment and deride people who are just expressing joy and excitement.

I'll echo what everyone else has said - GREAT post! I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas waiting for Friday to come. And I am even acting like a child at times, too! :)

Ordered two on 3/7.
Finally got shipment email from Apple around 1pm EST today containing both tracking #'s.
FedEx tracking for one of them finally popped up at 5pm and says Friday by 10:30am. I know that can change to "by end of day," but I hope not cause I have to leave for the airport around 10:30am. Fingers crossed!
(Not sure when 2nd tracking # will go live, though.) :)

EDIT: There it is! Both picked up now in Tennessee. Hubs will be pleasantly surprised Friday ... I think.

Ordered about 8pm on the 7th. 16 gig Verizon. Shipped at 6pm. Not sure where it is sitting since the tracking does not show but it's on it's way to Roanoke Va. Says delivery on he 14th so it has to be close. No I am not expecting it on the 14th.

Nice post.

It's worth nothing Christmas is a religious event not shared by everyone, however i do see the comparison with this.

The thread 'last I checked' is an open forum on pre-order status where order status can be updated, early delivery posts can be shot down, sympathy can be offered to late delivery posts.

Last time i heard 'Freedom of Speech' was still protected by the First Amendment - perhaps Apple have an App that changed that :)

Didn't you just sit in judgement at somebody expressing their own opinions?

You can't win, you can't lose...let's just not post 'don't judge me comments please...'

Just got a call from the Apple Store and they told me that my pick up, which was for some reason scheduled for March 27, will be ready earlier. I can pick it up on Friday. Order still says processing. But got the call. W00t.

Edit: Just got the email.

I am in a similar situation, but I did not request in store pickup! I originally ordered a white 32 GB Wi-Fi early morning of the 8th, but canceled 20 hours later. I then re-ordered a white 32 GB 4G Verizon early afternoon of the 9th. I missed delivery on the 16th and was projected a delivery of 22nd. Only to find out today that I will receive it Friday with the rest of the cool kids! I received an email with my tracking info etc.. I am stoked! It is obvious that Apple is sitting on 43 metric tons of iPads!

Awesome! Mine has said Preparing for Shipment since Friday night. I ordered 3/8. Hope it changes soon.

Great speech first of all :D. Second, I'm in the same boat as you, mine has been preparing for shipment since Saturday and I also ordered it 3/8. I got it engraved, so I don't how it's going to make it from China to Virginia in 3 days.

Anyone know how long it takes FedEx to update their tracking status? I just got my shipment email about 3 hours or so ago, but when I click the tracking link, it says "not found" ... Obviously this is normal as it just posted but I'm just curious how much longer until it updates. Thanks :)

Excellent post, thank you. You summed up my feelings exactly. Sometimes people just need a little happiness in this crazy world. :)

No doubt, man. No doubt.

Wth dude. Did you read my entire post? Mine isn't working and I wanted to know if you were able to see where it left from or what exactly you meant.. Why would I say "I only ask because mine isn't active :/" I thought maybe I was missing some information on mine because you seemed to know it was leaving when your tracking wast work. ( I wanted to know how to do it because I'm anxious about mine)

Wasn't trying to offend was just making sure I wasn't tracking mine wrong.

Don't get your panties in a bunch

mine has been like that since friday 3/9. still have 3/16 confirmed.

Last time around Hong Kong to Alaska to Nashville to Indinapolis to Chicago = 24 hours and on time delivery. Prior to zHong Kong was a great mystery with conflicting update messages. APPL knows what they are doing including enjoying all the teeth gnashing and hand wringing and the buzz it generates.

Outstanding post, Chris. Thanks.

good to know im not the only one! it sucks because i am trying to call fedex and have my boss put on the sig (have it picked up at the store) that way they just dont let any yahoo sign for it at my office. god knows what will happen to it. I cant do this because fedex has no record of the shipment. so i am SOL pretty much. Apple says "its not our fault fedex is taking a while to update their systems" fedex says " call apple if we dont have it active after 48 hours there is a problem with the product and it wont deliever" and that was from a "supervisor" im sure thats just their generic vague answer they give anyone.
