Do you think it is possible Apple is stocking these up in warehouses in the US and shipping from there depending on a FedEx/UPS ground delivery time? So for example if it takes 2 days for ground, it wouldn't ship until Wednesday.

The engraved models would be the exception.

Yes. They did this with the iPhone 4 I know b/c mine shipped from Texas, but many other people here showed shipping direct from China. All were delivered a day before the store launch, regardless of shipping location.

So it looks like Apple shipped over some before the announcement and warehoused them in the U.S. and then when that supply was exhausted started shipping direct from China. I would guess that will happen this time too.

Have any of the 4G Model orders switched to "Prepared for Shipment"? Past couple pages only seem to show WiFi.... Originally ordered Wifi around 5PM yesterday, but changed to 4G around 9pm last night...

I guess FedEx is going to hold it?

32GB White WiFi; no engraving. Just changed in the last hour to "Preparing for Shipment" with the delivery date of the 16th.

Welp, ordered yesterday around 3:45 and it just now changed to preparing for shipment. I'm excited. 32GB Wifi in white.

my theory is that Apple has learned that Wifi models are the ones that sell the most so they fill up their inventory with all the Wifi variations and make the preorder 4G's to order...the already made 4G's are probably already in the US in that initial shipment and are meant for retail.

woohoo

32gb black wifi engraved

Ordered in the afternoon on the 7th...

Is it possible to get it early?? Or does apple have them directed to deliver on the specified deliver date??

I have always stood in line on launch day, this is my first pre-order....really excited

Just placed my order for a 16gb white new iPad. I originally had a white 32gb then a black 32gb wifi +3g and ultimately decided to get the basic once i realized what i actually used it for. Little music, web browsing, and social sites. 16gb is fine for me as i keep all of my photos and videos on my iPhone. I tried using the iPad to edit videos using iMovie and couldn't really get into it.

Ordered my 16GB Black for in-store pickup. I actually like camping out early, even for preorders. Call me crazy.

Got my order in about three hours after the orders opened up yesterday for a 16GB Black Wi Fi and 30 mins ago it went from Processing Items to Preparing for Shipment. ( no engraving)

I am obviously a newbie and do not have an iPad, but I noted that you have ordered a 16GB model and your signature block says you have a 32GB now. Could you elaborate on why you are "downgrading"?

Just checked mine. My smart cover is on its way and my 64Gb Wifi is showing up as preparing for shipment. I'm taking off for a ski trip on thursday at 3:15pm and wont be back till monday. It would be sweet if I got it Thursday morning for the 4 hour bus ride.

It's a pre-authorization. You have no idea how much I hate pre-authorizations, especially when companies make a big deal about "we don't charge you until it ships." Well, technically you don't, but practically there is not a single iota of a difference.

Well if you are a merchant and you don't autorize the card, you would not find out there aren't enough funds available until you go to ship. Let's say they engraved one for you and then find out you have no funds available. Now what?
