If things work like the last few years, only the iPads shipping from China will have shipping notices go out in the next few days. The iPads they have stashed at distributions centers in the US will get shipping notices Tuesday or Wednesday. No need to panic yet. :)

Not quite :)

Take a look at my post a few replies up.

Fed Ex says mine was picked up in Los Angeles :)

Yeah yeah, I changed "only" to "mostly." I don't expect to get a shipping notice until Wednesday. ;)

Yeah, I think it's just a crap shoot. Who knows if the ones being picked up today from US hubs will actually get to the doors any quicker than those still in China.

Though I do like the fact that my iPad is only one state away and has already been loaded in a Fed Ex truck or plane :)

Black 32 GB (wifi only) shipped this morning. Hooray. Still not showing up in FedEx's system yet with the tracking number Apple gave me.

I'm calm. Are you?

People, they will all be delivered on the 16th, and no earlier.

We go through this every time.

They ship them so that that the local hubs have them for the 16th. The boxes are clearly labeled and all the hubs no the score. Apple is a huge presence and the carriers do NOT **** around. So, all this stuff is moot.

Why don't we all relax and sing a song, eh? :) iPad, oh iPad... How I love you little thing......

Yet, every single year, quite a few people get early deliveries. So...it does happen.

Accidental early deliveries happen all the time.

Not a moot point at all.

I'll join the Nashville club. Mine is there and is showing that it will be delivered on Monday by 3pm. As great as that would be, I'm pretty sure that Friday will still be the day.

Anyone have experience with changing the delivery to pickup at FedEx? It says on their website:
"FedEx Priority Overnight and FedEx 1Day Freight shipments normally are available for pickup by 9 a.m. (Monday–Friday) the next business day after shipment at most FedEx locations. FedEx Standard Overnight shipments normally are available for pickup by noon the next business day."

So they may not allow you to get the shipment until noon? Dumb, because it would be on the truck before 8AM!

I set my pickup to my local FedEx location. I've not done it before, but next Thursday is busy, so I switched to pickup in case they want to deliver early.

Separately, I found a *great* case that claims to be for iPad 3rd gen: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005O0FZT2/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details

I was looking to have a case on-hand, while the vendors optimize their cases for 3rd gen (for more variety). I received it today, and it is *gorgeous*! It even comes with a flannel bag to stick the case in!

Still in China

Location Date Local Time Activity
Chengdu, China 03/10/2012 3:02 A.M. Departure Scan
EPZ, China 03/08/2012 9:31 P.M. Departure Scan
03/08/2012 4:41 P.M. Origin Scan
China 03/08/2012 7:13 A.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS

so people shouldnt be worried if they pre-ordered right after it was announced (wed around 3pm) and their order still shows "Processing"

I work for FedEx, so I know a little about this topic. If a package is sent for standard overnight delivery and you change it to hold for pick up, then you will be able to pick up the package at 10:31 am at the earliest (it might be later if your service area is away from a major market). You can also pay an up charge for priority overnight and pick it up before 10:30 am. It all depends on the service area where you live.

is yours a verizon model? i still don't think i've seen a verizon model that has shipped, I think they all still say processing.

If that's a question, then no, people should not be worried if theirs is still processing.
Apple/FedEx/UPS/whatever other carrier are going through A LOT of orders right now, and it'll all be sorted eventually.

So I just got a shipping notice coming from CA, and it is Standard Overnight, but "Requested Future Delivery". That means the shipper requests a specific day to deliver it to me.

Assuming it arrives in my city on Monday, is there a way I can sweet talk them so I can pick it up early? Heck, even Thursday would work - I'm heading out of town Friday for the weekend (yeah, I can get it Monday, but c'mon! :))

Sounds like the best I can hope for is self-pickup on Friday at 10:31am? Damn.. not going to work.

I'm in the Portland area too- I'm guessing yours isn't 4G? or if so, not Verizon?

Order shipped via Fedex just now and tracking information is not available yet

16GB Wifi White no engraving

I got my tracking number this morning about 12 hours ago and the FedEx tracking page still doesn't have any knowledge of it.

Yes for me. My AT&T just shipped, my Verizon is still "processing."

My Verizon is still processing too and I got my order in relatively early. Good to know that this appears to be a trend and it's not just mine...not that I'm worried or anything
