So I just got a shipping notice coming from CA, and it is Standard Overnight, but "Requested Future Delivery". That means the shipper requests a specific day to deliver it to me.

Assuming it arrives in my city on Monday, is there a way I can sweet talk them so I can pick it up early? Heck, even Thursday would work - I'm heading out of town Friday for the weekend (yeah, I can get it Monday, but c'mon! :))

Sounds like the best I can hope for is self-pickup on Friday at 10:31am? Damn.. not going to work.

It all depends on the policy of the specific location. If they are given explicit instructions to not release a package before a certain date, then they probably will not do it. There is a small chance that the FedEx agent has no idea about about the policy, but I wouldn't count on it.

Yeah, I think it's just a crap shoot. Who knows if the ones being picked up today from US hubs will actually get to the doors any quicker than those still in China.

Though I do like the fact that my iPad is only one state away and has already been loaded in a Fed Ex truck or plane :)

Mine shipped from China yesterday, and is now in Anchorage, Alaska.

My 32G white Verizon got past "Processing" sometime last night and has been stuck in "Preparing for Shipment" ever since. I finally got my order to go through about 6:00 EST on Wed. I know it is ridiculous to keep checking the status and this thread. I can't seem to stop. This is my first iPad. I have been holding out for retina. Best wishes to all my OCD peeps.

My AT&T one is being prepared for shipping. My Verizon one is still processing. I ordered the Verizon one a couple hours before the AT&T one. Both 64GB.

Fed Ex still not showing any info for me but assume it will take a day or two to show up with info for my tracking number

I just got an email notification that my two iPads shipped (2 separate tracking numbers).

Both were 16GB Black Wifi, not engraved. They are coming from Ontario, CA.

My 32g 4G and Apple TV are not even preparing for shipment yet. I am having them shipped to a really small town outside of Dallas, TX where I'm visiting for Spring break. I really hope there are no issues given the small town we are staying at. I'm hoping for FedEx which means I could call and schedule a pickup on the 16th correct?

I ordered a 32 GB Black Verizon model yesterday (3/8), and mine has been in the "Processing Items" status since. It still says deliver on 3/16 so I'm not terribly worried, but it is slightly unnerving to have so many people posting that their order zipped right through the process so much more quickly than mine.

Yep, Apple products do this to you. But it gets worse. Next comes monitoring the flight of the plane your iPad is on as it goes from AK to the mainland U.S. to make sure it lands safely. Seriously.

Mine also says preparing for shipment. Is there any threads that have tried to figure out the order #'s and if there's any sense made for those? I remember the iPhone release on Verizon and everyone was posting order #'s and trying to figure out a pattern...

Has anyone been able to do the option for pickup at your local Apple store? I really want this as I'm afraid nobody will be around to sign for it... When I try to preorder it, this option is shown, but it is "greyed" out and I can't select it?!

My order is still being processed. I ordered two black 64gb AT&T wifi + 4g iPads shortly after the store came back online after its first crash.

I work for FedEx, so I know a little about this topic. If a package is sent for standard overnight delivery and you change it to hold for pick up, then you will be able to pick up the package at 10:31 am at the earliest (it might be later if your service area is away from a major market). You can also pay an up charge for priority overnight and pick it up before 10:30 am. It all depends on the service area where you live.

I switched my FedEx to pick-up. It still says "Hold at FedEx location request received", but it doesn't show what that FedEx location is. I showed the location when I first changed it, but subsequent tracking queries just show "Hold at FedEx location request received" without showing the FedEx location.

Is this normal?

Thanks for telling us how.

There should be an option to pre-sign at the order status screen on the Apple Store. The button won't appear until your item ships. You fill out the form telling the driver what to do with your package, (leave on porch, with a neighbor, etc.), and sign it. Leave the note on your door on the 16th.
