Still waiting on my tracking number to work.. although I don't know why! It's just going to be torture when it is at my FedEx center, and I am not able to pick it up

Yeah, but what the other person said made sense, we're closer to China than other states, so that could be why. Mine has been on preparing for shipment for 24 hours now. I'm not too worried. Hopefully it all works out and I'm pretty sure it will.
I personally have not received my shipping notification but my brother received his earlier today and we live in San Diego. We got ordered the 16gb wifi (black) with no engraving.
Where did it ship from?
The China theory works but I was thinking that Apple already has a lot of stock sitting somewhere in California so it doesn't need to ship out until late.
If it's coming from Ontario, then yeah, my status on Apple's website probably won't change until late next week. There's nowhere else for it to go!

A suggestion for those in Preparing for Shipment Mode
Just a suggestion for those of you that are in "Preparing for Shipment" mode ... during the iPhone 4s launch, a number of people found that a shipping number had actually been assigned before Apple indicated that and changed their status to shipped.
What you can do is use the "Track by Reference" functionality that exists in both the FedEx and UPS websites and fill in as much information as you know from your order and see what happens. Here is a video that discussed this in the context of the iPhone 4S launch:

The video covers how to use Track by Reference first for UPS and then for FedEx. I am currently stuck in "Processing" purgatory with my ATT 64GB, and I have no idea whether this still works, but some of you may want to give it a try.
