Core M performance sucks. Nothing like bouncing apps when opening. Lol Ok for web browsing.
I have to admit I never tried the MacBook for more than a few minutes in the store but based on benchmarks it's a good 30% faster than my old MBP and I'm doing a lot more than web browsing with it.

I guess it depends what kind of performance you're used to! ;)

A friend of mine had a glitch with browsing with MB: scrolling through FB-roll was slow and jumpy. Was this ever fixed or is it just too heavy task for MB?
That core m3 has a CPU benchmark similar to a 2011 13” MBP. It shouldn’t be “too heavy” a task.

C'mon, Apple, cough up the new Mini already.

Although, to tell the truth, if it showed up tomorrow, I'd still wait to pull the trigger, given that (a) the 2.6GHz quad-core 2012-era Mini I'm typing this on is still a fine, fine machine and (b) I'd really need to know what the Mac Pro will be now that they're thinking outside the can, and where they end up placing it on the cost-vs-flexibility chart.

It's 8 months since I built my custom Windows 10 PC and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner instead of keep hanging on for the phantom Mini replacement.

Windows 10 is every bit as easy to use as MacOS and the beauty of the home build is I can keep it current indefinitely with up to the minute components.

Sorry Apple but unlike Arnie - I won't be back.

Except coming to MacRumors to brag?
I do wonder how many of the same 3-5 people here who post nothing but negative things about Apple and just positive things about their Windows based PCs, work for MS or are just so, nvm it will be deleted if I post it. Funny though.

Theory vs. reality?
Look up the Passmark CPU benchmarks yourself. Both are in the low 3000s.

I have a Samsung Tabpro S with the same CPU that I use for media and other tasks when traveling. While I wouldn’t be doing heavy video editing on it I have no slowdowns using common apps. But it also has 8GB of RAM.

I wonder with the MacBook if aggressive power settings make it slower when on battery. The m3 defaults to 900mhz but turbos to 2.2 ghz.

I doubt that MS could care and would take the time to troll The New Mac Mini Almost Certainly Coming thread. Lol

They come here to reassure themselves that they made the right decision. Subconsciously they question their Windows choice and so need to belittle what they didn't choose.

That being said W10 has come a long way and obviously works. I use it on my test/game machine and have W7 on my company laptop. Every operating system gets you there but one does it in style.

And as that may be true it's a dam shame that Apple has forsaken the Macs (Mini and Air) that made owning a Mac a more economically feasible alternative to other OSs.
Even the quality of MacPro with its numerous keyboard issues undermines the old saying "that it just works".
I built my PC a year and a half ago and really enjoy it for the 3 OS's which includes macOS and I have been wanting to add a laptop and interested in add a Mac but I can't find anything in the present line up that suits my needs. The MacBook is to slow along with 1 port bull crap. The Air is years behind in CPU tech and the MacPro has keyboard and no legacy ports so no sale.
Apples QC and need for thinness along with money grabbing dongles is just not the Apple it use to be.
It just works doesn't apply any longer.

Sure, there are those who complain because they need validation. I, any many others, complain not to bash Apple, but because we love the OS and privacy stance, and would like to purchase a current headless computer with those benefits. I complain because I'm dissatisfied with my choices, from Apple and otherwise. It's kinda in the "take my money" vein; I want to voice what I'd like to choose as a consumer. Apple is free to ignore me (as are you), but I'm an Apple aficionado on a board frequented by six Microsoft trolls and thousands of Apple aficionados - and maybe even a few employees. I want to provide my feedback. I want to buy several up-to-date Mac Minis. I'm hopeful that Apple will give us that opportunity.

Oh, and the new keyboards are awful, just in case I hadn't mentioned it in a while.

Except for that "style" you speak of has a very dated UI, it just seems OLD.

Yeah, I will never understand why Apple can't just toss out "new models" every year with better procs, slightly more RAM, etc.

The Mac Mini was one of the best little ideas they had, and it would be so easy to maintain. It's kind of embarrassing that they even continue to sell the "current" model. It kind of goes directly against everything else they're doing.

Same with the Pro, but at least they kind of addressed that publicly at some level.

Of course, it feels like Apple isn't really interested in being a computer company any more, just an iOS device company. It feels like the R&D and updates on those devices are out like clockwork.

Been a Mac user for years, still have some Mac gear, but come on, enough really is enough. There's a world of difference between loyalty and taking the proverbial. I'm afraid Apple have done the latter.

Yep, iOS is the avenue for new customers by far. And it's not like they aren't doing well as a company in that respect. Oh well, I'll just stay optimistic that they'll stick to their routes and offer some nice desktop hardware soon.

Get and XPS 15.... Just saying.

Or they have been Apple fans for a long time, and are saddened that Apple, has turned its back on the long time fans. Posting here for those types is cathartic. They come here to realize that their anger/despair is shared by others.

Where as you come here to belittle others who are going thru this difficult divorce. And yes I use that word because these relationships are longer than most marriages.

What if I told you, that when I saw the glitch, I googled all the benchmarks, but it didn't remove the glitch? ;)

I think there's no reason to use weak mobile chips in desktop. Even if it's okay for 95% of the time. There's nothing bad having a little reserve, even if you don't need it. I guess this is the same thing that some people think legacy ports are bad, if they don't use them (all the time)...

I don't see anything sad about it at all. After all Apple failed these customers by not providing timely updates. In the case of the Mini it's been 3 years and still selling at a premium price. Some of these people were life time Apple customers and may still be with iPhones and iPads such as me. I always ran Widows in Bootcamp on my Mac and did not have a problem leaving the Mac behind even though I hacked the OS. Others took a leap of faith to move on and probably the most frustrated at Apple. I'm happy for those that refuse to be held hostage by Apples greed and profiteering.
When buying a new machine people want something up to date and will not be obsolete in a couple of years. In this case the choices were Linux or Windows. Both OSs keep updating and moving on with innovative new features.
macOS has not really added anything since continuity and very few app updates.
Apple is an IOS company always innovating and moving on from OS X. This is Tim's Apple.
