SNL needs to do a skit on Apple - Alec Baldwin can do Johnnie I'm sure ... I can see it now ...... "Really eve-vo-lutionary this new invisible Mini - this is how Apple does - thin - its been laying on the shelf all this time - let me stand it up!"

I´d like to see this happen, but we propably won´t. And if this damn thing is not going to get updated, Apple should at least have guts to kill it already.

Perhaps we should start making bto orders in masses and then return every single unit to make them see the point? :p

Mojave will not work on most Mini’s.

Seems crunch time, next upgrade will probably be the knockout punch.

Since the 2014 Mini is still in production, it won't be obsolete until 2025 at the earliest. ;)

And this thread will STILL be going... and waiting...

It ups the min spec from the 2010 to the 2012 Mini. This is most likely due to Metal (and possibly 32-bit deprecation) as the HD 4000 is sort of min-spec feature-wise for the DirectX 12 equivalents.

As a game developer, I've got a few things to say about deprecating OpenGL - it's not as big a deal as the story on the front page makes it out to be, but it's still annoying in some ways. In the long run, all platforms are sort of going that way (long discussion about the evolution of GPUs omitted).

Since there was no hardware announced at all, not even iOS devices, I'm not that disappointed. There surely will be some hardware announcements later this year, so I'm saving up my dreams to be crushed then.

I will give Apple some props for two things - realizing they need to optimize and bug fix what they already have in their OS, and Privacy.

I ran El Capitan for a long time, skipped Sierra and went for HS after a couple of point-releases had happened.

I'm certainly not going to install the dot-zero release of Mojave. Often, the Cisco AnyConnect Client throws some fits on these and it usually takes a couple of weeks (or months) to get it working again. Apparently, nobody tests the betas there.

I'll install it in 2019, if at all.

I hear the last HS point update killed our Cisco anyconnect for out school district-or at least one of our “networks” effecting several schools...

I think "low Sierra" is as far as my 2012 i7 2.6ghz Mini is going to go.

I've also just about come to the conclusion that there aren't going to be any more "Minis".
I was lucky to buy what I have, and it's been perhaps the best Mac I've owned.

Would I buy a 2018 Mini if one was released?
Not sure.
I don't really -need- one, as the 2012 still does fine.
However, I don't see why I'd want to upgrade to OS 10.15 (when it's released in 2019).
32-bit apps won't be supported in it, and I still have a lot of them I like.

I could end up buying a "Mojave-capable" Mini or iMac, just so that I can KEEP running my 32-bit apps.

The days of letting us "under the hood" are soon to be long gone. Very basically the need for security and enclaves will continue to grow and this coupled with more component compression on the chip will essentially render all gear "inoperable". So as time goes more layers of superficiality will be offered instead of peeling the layers back.

The software itself ... well Apps really ... seem to have diluted my interest as you're being directed by Apple through the App store for just about everything ... the search and conquest for specific software that piqued my interest is now gone - if it doesn't come bundled with the things I buy I'm probably not going to mess with it. The "geek has been replaced with meek".
