Wonder if the choice for 8th gen CPU is simply due to the fact that 9th gen doesn't support HT except for the top notch model.

Did they mention graphic card options? Might be a good "modular" Mac.. and then pair with an eGPU for other things?

I'm guessing because it's a small machine with limited thermal possibilities.
You're probably spot on. Redesign would have been nice. But it is what it is. I see no point for a 64GB version. If price is right I might pick up 6-core, 32GB and 1TB ssd. Makes me wonder tho what's gained in comparison to a 15" MBP running with eGPU and external monitor. Hopefully some Mac Pro news later on.

how much did you want it for? $99?

$500 was a great entry point for the mini. But I picked up an i3, 8gb ram, 128gb ssd laptop a couple months back for 400. Granted it's 7th gen i3 and not 8th gen, but still. And I can upgrade my ram and SSD for a fraction of the cost.

fully loaded top end model will be USD 3000+
it a beast of port.. which a lot of people like and ram upgradable.. so if imac don't have upgradable many would folk to mac mini again.Even mac pro ram.. haish.. mac mini ftw

nice one.. the only part are ram upgradable manuall. If so, good.. HDMI FTW good..
Ram is S0DIMM (iirc 2 slots), so user-upgradeable. Not so sure with the SSD, though. Guess they'd pointed out if the internal mass storage would have also been made user-upgradeable ... (it's nicely mitigated with TB3, but then takes away one of only 4 USB3 ports ... - at least there's still a dedicated power connector).

Agreed. 6 core and 16 GB RAM is the one for me. I have no need for more (yet). If I need more RAM I will upgrade it later.

Well color me surprised, they actually

-updated the mini
-brought back socketed, upgradeable ram (two SO-DIMMs apparently)

The pricing, of course, is another matter altogether. But technology-wise, first impressions seem very, very promising. This may be the computer I've been waiting for the last 4 years.

It seems that for once, somebody at Apple actually listened the user base.
