You apparently don’t use VMs.
Don't worry, I do a lot actually. To the point when 6-cores are simply not enough to drive them. Once you reach that point you can have 128GB or more and it wouldn't change that fact that you can't run x VMs simultaneously without having enough horse power.

Entry price of 800$. I'm 100% out.
Somewhat better than the $899-999 for the 8GB/256SSD that I expected.

Rumors said it was going to be more expensive due to CPU and storage. It isn’t really more expensive, they just upped the specs of the base model, getting rid of 4GB, HDD, Fusion, 1.6GHz dual-cores, 15W CPU performance—you know, everything that made $499-799 possible.

It’s exactly what I’ve been saying for months that so infuriated some in this thread: if you want a higher spec base, that’s fine, but it’ll start at a correspondingly higher base price.

Edit: Turns out it is the $999 8/256 I was expecting. At least there’s a cheaper base model for those who can get by with 128GB.

So quad core top end 2012 will still have great resale prices... with these new Mac Mini prices.
Until they are no longer supported with new OS releases, which will probably be within a couple years.

For what you are getting, I think the price points aren't bad though the lowest end price point is $300 higher.

It sounds like the RAM is user upgradeable, which for me is a HUGE plus. You can start with 16 GB, for example, and go up to 32 or 64 later when needed and without paying the massive Apple Tax for it.

The website has been finally updated.

To avoid any confusion I assume i3 quad core is Coffee Lake similar to 8100 range

Don’t worry, I’m not worried lol. I just have no idea how you can’t understand 64GB is something those who run VMs would like.

It’s nice that you don’t need 64GB though. I’m sure data centers will appreciate it.

Hi,

i work in an Apple Reseller and like many of you i'm waiting for the mini 2013 refresh.

From monday the two major Apple suppliers in Italy are suddenly and completely out of stock of minis. I know that this happen from time to time, but the timing is no coincidence.

Trust me, a new mini is coming next week, or at least we have solid evidence to believe it.
Hi, original poster. The new Mini will be available from 11/7/18.

Can't fault the specs bump. Delivered there.

All down to pricing now for me, and that is not looking so good, especially for those SSDs . That could be the deal breaker.

The quad i3, with a 256GB SSD, and 8GB RAM, is $1569 AUD. I can get an 8th generation quad i7 NUC with the same size RAM and SSD, for $820. Hmm.

So quad core top end 2012 will still have great resale prices... with these new Mac Mini prices.
I will be hanging onto mine for while.
