Not seen any issue in my use cases at any sizes. No need to waste time on manufacturing scare stories. This thing works fine. I'm sure a professional designer would want and need to use the LG 5K screen- I have one at my desk at work and it's even better - but honestly this 4K one is fine.

There’s tons of reports of UI lag and stutter when using scaled resolutions with the 2018 Mini. Especially with the 8GB base model.

So 8 years after thinking about upgrading my 2009 Mini this might actually be the release to do it !! Some research to do ... my 2009 now has the max 8gb ram with a spinner and that runs ok so don't see why 8 and an ssd wouldn't work just fine for me

Anyone who buys an 8GB base model is asking for trouble in 2018. Let alone 2020.
An 8GB MacBook Pro is still serving me fine in 2020, and I expect will continue to do so.

MacRumors readers are really not the representative sample of the computing needs of the majority of the population, which is why some of the hand-wringing about the chip transition is so funny. The majority of people are going to buy a new MacBook Air now and yeah, it'll be snappier than their old one, but they're not going to notice anything else weird about it.

I definitely would encourage RAM over the other upgrades if you can, but the idea 8GB will kill your machine's appeal is as goofy as the people who are bemoaning their current machines being "obsolete". If you're still doing work on them, they're not obsolete.

(Also, I've got a long enough memory to remember when 'modern' Apple was shipping machines with 64 and 128MB of RAM when OS X required twice that just for acceptably smooth performance. Once Apple started embedding the RAM they got a lot more reasonable about pricing for upgrades and boosting the minimums.)

I was actually thinking 8K as that is what you can buy today (Dell UP3218K).
Actually, you can buy a modular 16K TV display, but it ain't cheap.

Makes sense. If I go for a $5M display I won't notice spending $50K on a Mac Pro.

Anyone wondering if there could be a new Mac Mini that will use the “M1X” chip they’d likely use for iMac, new Apple Silicon MBP 16”? Seems like they have more Thermal overhead and could have a larger chip in for Mini. Plus we could then get one with 4x TB connectors etc.
though when next AS Mac sill be is unknown? First half of 2201 for maybe iMac 24 - but that could run on M1 as it’s low end entry desktop mac

The regular iMacs only have 2 TB3 ports so I don't see a mini upgrade for a while.

My guess is that M1X will come out already in spring 2021, and it will double the IO-bandwith and RAM. Then 10Gbit ethernet and more USB ports are possible. Performance wise there could be two to four extra GPU cores and that’s it. M1X could be used in better Mac Mini model, and MBP 14” and MBP 16” entry model. And in the new iMac 24”.

I sure hope for some kind of „Mac mini Pro“. While the CPU per se would suffice for me, I need more than two Thunderbolt ports. Plus, I really don’t want to give up the space grey enclosure 😬
