Appearently, there was an update on January 10.. version 1.0.3. However, Netflix is still useless for me. Sometimes it freezes during playback. You see a spinning wheel and it just hangs. When you hit menu a few times it goes back to the launcher (home). When you open the Netflix app again, you usually get a message "this content can not be played at the moment" (or something like that).

I already re-installed the app, but the problem remains.

I think it's not the network in my home or my provider. When I run Netflix on my Nvidia Shield (Android TV) it works flawlessly.

I agree. The app gets buggier with every update. Now the video sometimes freezes but audio continues. Only rolling the video back fixes it. Happened with Supernatural S3E16 got the content cannot be played had to close the app by swiping up and also the video froze but audio continued.

Im glad I didnt get rid of my ATV 3 because the new Netflix on ATV 4 is Un-navigatable!!!

Where are genres???

Where is the "More Info" with the director and the cross reference to other movies that director did?

What other movies were these actors in??? I dont know because I cant select their names anymore!!!

NOW.. With limited access to the entire netflix collection it seems like there is less to watch. I scroll to the right and maybe there are 15 movies I dont want to watch and nothing in their limited rows below...then thats it folks!!!

We decided we were going to put the old ATV 3 back based on the Friggin white bright backgeound on the iOS!!!! Sucks when the lights are out!

i'm having the same issues. doesn't happen all the time but happens enough to be annoying. hope they fix it soon
 
Netflix performed like crap on the Apple TV last night. Due to the snowstorm there will be more congestion however thinking that the Apple TV with its so called special algorithms would stream better well it did not. Like really any other device the new Apple TV chokes under congestion and performs the worse. I tried to watch a episode of Supernatural and twice in 2 minutes not only did it stay in SD but went down to VHS low def SD quality. I then fired up the Netflix app on my Fire TV, loaded the same episode and after 30 seconds it went to HD and stayed at 1080p.

Now I regret buying this thing. The 3rd Gen Apple TV was so much better especially streaming the live Watch Disney channels and I am thinking about reconnecting it and boxing up the 4th Gen Apple TV.
 
There is nothing better about he 3rd gen than the 4th except a native podcast app, oh and for all the people that keep saying the background is white, go see an eye doctor it is not white

My suspicion is that there's a bug in either the underlying tvOS streaming framework (buffering of data) or tvOS can't handle too well somewhat fluctuating internet connections.

I'm seeing random "An error occurred loading this content. Try again later" messages. Usually I've to kill the app and re-start. Back to the launcher (home) and open Netflix again doesn't help.

A spinning wheel during playback also occurs at random. The only way to get started again is kill, restart the app.

My PS4 plays Netflix stuff without issues.

Have to add, sometimes I see it on my Nvidia Shield (Android) as well, but less frequent.

The other theory I have is that Netflix has some capacity problems.

For searching newly added content, the Netflix app is a complete joke. The old ATV3 was much much better. What were they thinking when they designed this UI. It's totally confusing for their customers. Usually you can find stuff, but you have to know what you're looking for or know for sure it's there.
 
I watched Netflix on the Apple TV it was mostly perfect yesterday but at the end of the movie last night the picture turned into a fuzzy VHS mess and took about 30 seconds to ramp up after which trying to load another program fuzzy VHS mess. Fire TV was able to play it in HD after a initial ramp up.

I give up with Netflix. There is not one device that it can stream perfect under congestion. Really if there own Fire TV box where Amazon Instant can stream perfect using there adaptive streaming why can't Netflix do the same. I guess I can reconnect my Roku 3 it was the most reliable streamer when I had really bad issues with Netflix in 2014-2015.

I had heard that but I have some Video Podcasts on my Apple TV 4. I had not used it much before but I did subscribe to some and today for fun I opened it and there were some old video Podcasts. I am using the lasted non=beta. Maybe 9.1.1.
 
Man oh man, it's really bad. Last night I got the no video (black screen), but audio still there issue as well.

Content discovery with this new UI is terrible. Avengers Age of Ultron came on-line last saturday, but it's nowhere to be seen. The old ATV3 UI was much more up to date.

Also happened a few times progress is not saved at Netflix' servers.
 
The UI is stupid. It's difficult to find related content with it. I'm now rarely using NETFLIX to discover any new content as time goes by. When something comes better and NETFLIX continues with this, bye bye NETFLIX.

This UI is on all of their other supported devices. It's not unique to the ATV4.

Maybe I'm lucky, but I haven't experienced all the problems I've read in this thread.

Yes and no. The UI is the same on other devices, but there are more Features on other devices. E.G. Netflix for AT4 is still missing genres.

Mostly i'm using the Netflix App on my TV, because it's 100x better (same for Plex).

I contacted Netflix 10 weeks ago. Nothing happened so i gave up.

Hard to say but even my FireTV and the Xbox One are much better streaming clients. Better Plex App, better Netflix App and both with Amazon Instant Video App...
 
Other then the UI, Netflix seems to work very well for me. Pretty much the same as on ATV 3. However, to be fair I have not used it a lot since the new seasons are not out yet. But with House of Cards due on 3/4 and others to follow I expect to use it a lot more over the coming months. I do wish the developers would wake up and see that the UI really needs some work. Do they simply only use Netflix? Surely they could see how others are doing it. This is not that complicated.
