My guesses:

STATS:
get rid of 8gb. have 16/32/64
prices: 199/299/399

HARDWARE:
Glass on front and back
Stainless steel band
3 mp camera on back only/no flash
Retina display
Gyro

SOFTWARE:
All 4.0 features
camera zoom
possibly 4.1?

OTHER FEATURES:
802.11 N wifi
FM radio tuner
HD video recording

3G OPTION:
To keep a iPod touch user like me connected on the go, trust me i hate to leave a wifi area, apple should do what they did on the ipad. make a 3g option so people can stay connected. to me its a no brainer for apple.

MY TOP 3:

1. Camera
2. 3G
3. Retina display

Cmon Apple dont let us down!

I think this has been mentioned before but i would like to bring it up again; FM radio, that would help in competing with Zune.

Good point. I thought the 3G got FM radio but I stand corrected. I hope they don't restrict FM radio + Live Pause to just the Nano, which seems possible.

My main hope is that they will have 16GB as the baseline.

Personally, i wouldnt buy a 3G data plan, but it would be a nice addition and a little cash for Apple.

I forgot about that, it would make total sense.

Not really, thats about 8-9 weeks.

There is about 99.99999999% chance that it will be released in September.

99.999999999 = 100

.9repeating = 1 since 1/3 = .3 repeating and 3/3 would thus equal .9 repeating so in turn .99999... Equals 1

Back to the matter at hand. If history has taught us anything it's that apple does their little back to school promo to milk the last of their iPod stock the the day after the promo ends we get new iPods. It's almost like clockwork by now. I'll be ordering mine day one. I have a 3rd gen but I can't stand having old tech...

I know how to do math. I put .9 because they might not release it then, which i HIGHLY doubt they wont.

I know that it most likely will be released in September. I dont think i'll order mine day one, but i'll most likely pre-order it.

I want a Touch for a PDA. I can't decide between just picking up a refurb's 8GB now for $149, or just hold out and see what I can get as the base model.

Many speculate the base model will change to a 16GB model, and I can't help but agree. Do most of us thing it will actually be 3G hardware, and follow the current lineup style of base/lastgen - mid/current - high/current?

You should probably hold out.

I'm not sure about the baseline. I dont think the baseline will be completely 3G hardware, maybe partially, if that makes sense.

I am probably going to hold out. I mean, at the very least, getting a 16GB instead of an 8GB for the same price, regardless of what generation the hardware is from, would be a worthwhile thing to wait for.

Just getting antsy!

Definitely. If they do a baseline 3rd gen, heres what i think they should do: 3rd gen 16gb-199, 4th gen 8gb-199, 4th gen 16gb-249, but thats only if they decide to do the 3rd gen remodel.

Here are my thoughts:

FM Radio makes sense. So does a Gyroscope. iPod Touch is mainly a media and entertainment center, so it makes sense that both of those are integrated. I can also see a camera being installed. I am, however, not sure it'll be able to record video.

As for a 3G card slot, that makes a lot of sense. However, I don't know if Apple will integrate it. While useful, I'm not sure if Apple considers that a priority.

I can also see them forgetting about the 8GB model, and just doing the 16/32/64 GB one.

I do NOT think the next iPod Touch will have a design revamp. We saw a leak of an iPod Touch, and its design was "old". Not only that, but they probably want to make a "Premium" distinction between iPod Touch and iPhones. And, to be honest, they do well. So I doubt it'll be an iPod with an external antenna and glass in the front/back.

If this happens, this would be great. I have wanted an iPhone for an year now, but with the recent problems (not the antenna issue; the fragile-screen issue) I started holding back, specially considering it's so much money, and considering I want a MBP too. I could probably get one of these once I bought the MBP, using Apple's Return To School promotion...

A 3G card slot would be a money maker.

I dont think the design will change but im hoping it will.

I don't see Apple adding an SD card. I just feel like it goes against Apple's model of keeping it simple, and "it just works". Opening things up with and SD card slot, would then introduce two ways of putting content on your iPod, via the regular iTunes sync, or copying stuff to the SD card, and then plugging it in. I know it's not REALLY complicated, but it does complicate things for some of their simpler customers (which I'm sure is a large percentage of them). People like just having iTunes set to automatically sync, and just plug it in, and let it sync. Even I, a very technical person, find it refreshing to not have to manually manage anything if I don't want to. I love my auto-sync.

A SD card slot would be nice but its most likely not gonna happen because more people would be buying lower models and then expanding their storage with the SD card.

That too. Apple's not going to make any move that could possibly hinder sales of a higher priced product. Makes sense to me.

I also think that there's soooo many brands and manufacturers of SD cards out there, Apple doesn't want to get into the whole thing of getting support calls due to bad/failing/incompatible cards. It just opens up a can of worms that's 100% avoided if they keep the closed system that they already have. Apple likes everything to be Apple. Takes a lot of guesswork out of things for them (and for us too when problems arise).

Yep.

Im trying to keep my standards low so i wont be disappointed if some things i want dont happen, but currently im failing.

I CANT WAIT TIL SEPTEMBER!!!!!!!!!

i ran home from school last september to see the last ipod update and was bummed to see nothing added to the itouch :(

Not anything you could see from the outside, but some upgrades were added. Hopefully previews are early.

so what are you looking forward to the most on the next ipod touch?
14 pages score!

Plus 1!!!!!!!!!

Me? Well, im looking forward most to a 16GB 4th gen model for $199 and having a touch in general.

  1. 16GB Model
  2. Camera
  3. Retina

What about you?

I'm also hoping for the 16GB at the $199 price point.

I'm also hoping (but not expecting) the $199 model to actually be 4G hardware, and won't be a 3G rollover. If that's the case i won't be tempted to jump up to whatever they have sitting at $299, but I guess that's why Apple does this in the first place. The old, "what's another $100?" mentality. In any case I might have to stay strong and stay base model. After all, I only want a PDA/organizer/time-killer that happens to play some media too. I already have a 160GB Classic that's my go-to, unstoppable, unfillable music machine.

I'll be disappointed if they dont have the baseline as a 4th gen. Personally I'd prefer a 8gb 4th gen over a 16gb 3rd gen if they were the same price.
