It looks like Apple is using the "old model" trick to make consumers by iPods/iPhones.

What I mean is, most, if not all, of my friends own a MC-Model 8GB because it was so cheap. The new iPhone line up is also based on the "old model" way. 3GS for cheaper price and the new models for a more expensive price. Same as when the 3GS was released.

This is how the 2010-2011 iPod line up will look like.

iPod Touch 4th Generation
16GB 3rd Generation Model - $199
32GB 4th Generation Model - $249
64GB 4th Generation Model - $349

Features: Camera, Retina Display, iPad design, FM radio, Gyroscope, Microphone, iOS 4.1.

iPod Nano 6th Generation
8GB 6th Generation Model - $139
16GB 6th Generation Model - $169

Features: 720p video, taller screen (16:9)

iPod Classic 8th Generation
160GB 9th Generation Model - $219

Features: Same as 8th Generation but iPad aluminum backing.

iPod Shuffle 4th Generation
4GB 4th Generation Model - $69

Features: Better Voiceover, different design.

iPod Classic 9th Generation
160GB 9th Generation Model - $129

Features: Same as 8th Generation but iPad aluminum backing.

iPod Classic for $129?! I want some of what YOU'RE smokin'. And I must have blinked and missed the 8th generation sometime in the last few minutes because the current gen is 7.

In any case I highly doubt they'll change a single thing about the classic. The only change that could happen is if they stop making them. I can see possible a $20 price drop to $229, but Apple isn't going to want the Classic to cut into the Touch sales anymore than it already does. Not saying the Classic is a Touch killer by any means, but there is a segment of the buying public, myself included, who's needs are more logically met by the Classic at that price point. That said, if the Classic wasn't renewed last year, and wasn't currently available, I probably would have ended up with a 32gb or 64gb Touch. Just an example of a lost Touch sale because of the Classic's existence. Lowering the price on it will only add to those lost Touch sales. Not everyone NEEDS all that the Touch offers (many actually want a traditional iPod, that plays music), but without the Classic option, I would have been happy to have a Touch as my main music device.

I'm curious as you guys might know better than I do; I was reading the iPod forum the other day a thread mulling over the idea of the iPod Classic coming to an end - if that were to happen (and even if it didn't), how good of a chance do we have of getting a 128GB iPod Touch? It's just that the idea was kicked around in that thread, and though it's an idea I obviously love, I wouldn't want to hope for something that has no chance of being made in this cycle. I made that mistake putting my hope in for a 64GB iPhone this year.

Would a 128GB iPod Touch be feasible at a $349 price point or maybe even a $449 price point? Would they be able to keep the same size of the iPod Touch with a 128GB model? Just looking for some thoughts since this is essentially a speculation thread.:)

...and before anyone asks, I would like to have my entire music library on an iPod Touch as opposed to a classic, so a 128GB model would appeal to me greatly.:p

I would love to see a 3G version so I could take advantage of pay per use data. With the iPhone 4 issues, I've decided I'd rather just get a Touch instead, but I'd really like the ability to look up maps and restaurants on the go without having to hunt for a WiFi signal.

I honestly don't see Apple putting so much into the iPod touch. If they do why would anyone need the iPhone?

My guess- - -

-Everything in 4.0 (Duh)
-No camera*
-Better res (Not Retina, People would just opt for the touch and not the phone. Kind of a bad move IMO)
-Faster, but not A4
-New Design, but not identical to the Phone
-Gyroscope (For gaming!)
-NEW PRICES - which would probably be the most hyped thing - - - Starting at only. . .
Other then that, that's pretty much it. Maybe Radio without wifi connect?

*Sidenote if they DO add a camera it will be horrible or very low quality (Which would be stupid and cause alot of Apple bashing :().

In my humble opinion, with only "yes" or "no":

Rear Camera: Yes... 3.2 MP
Front Camera: Yes... 2 MP
Facetime: With my two cameras, obviously yes
Retina Display: No
Higher Res Display: Yes
A4: Yes
FM Radio: Yes
3G plans: No
SD Card Slot: No
iPhone 4 design style: No
New Design: Yes
Gyroscope: Yes
Cardboard: No
Delicious: Yes

And the lineup:

$199: 16 gig 3g
$299: 32 gig 4g
$399: 64 gig 4g

I wish that apple will do the same with ipod touches like iphones

IPHONE
3GS 8GB=99$
IPHONE 4 16GB=199$
IPHONE 4 32GB=299$

IPOD TOUCH
3G 8GB=99$ OR 149$
4G 16GB=199$
4G 32GB=299$
4G 64GB=399$$$

Why not???

for all those saying nay to the retina screens and the A4 proc. for apple to use something else just doesn't make any sense because in the past, it has been the same with both the iphone and the ipod touch. Also, it would be more expensive for apple to put dif screens and processors in the ipod touch and iphone. and for those why say that would prevent people from buying the iphone, people who buy the touch aren't looking at iphones and likewise because people who buy touches don't want to pay another monthly bill and likewise people who buy iphones are looking for a phone first and everything else later.

I am really hoping Apple goes generous and gives us a cheap 16GB 4G touch, because my current touch is a piece of crap. It's the 2G/3G 8GB model that can only run iOS4 Lite, slow beyond belief, and has problems time and time again (even when I get a new one from Apple).

I don't blame my parents for buying the lower end Touch, as they are tight on cash around X-Mas season (as always), I would love if I'd gotten the 32GB.

I love how people go around saying "8GB IS ENOUGH, MY MUSIC IS ONLY 2GB" when they go shopping for a Touch because, A: What about your apps, B: Formatting takes away like 1GB and C: What about music growth? When I bought my Touch, it was only half full, with apps. Now my music has grown from 2GB to 4GB.

Like seriously, camera would be so convenient. Because I go everywhere with my Touch, if there was something cool, I would snap a picture of it ;)

And also, as a side note, the current USB cables Apple ships their hardware with is a giant piece of bullcrap. My sister's iPod was bought for her birthday (May) and her cable is already fraying on the ends and cracking in the middle. My cable has so many patches of electrical tape on it, it turn from a white to black. My sister also had the 1G Nano, with the HQ cable, and it lasted until now! Apple, please, QUALITY IS BETTER THAN LOOKS, whoops, not in Steve's World ;)

And goobot, NO, I wish they didn't because as I said before... people look to buy low end models just for the sake of that they are cheap.

For those who say "There is no way Apple is making iPod Touch 4 like the iPhone 4" you guys are so wrong. How? Well if you look at the (short) history of the iPod Touch and iPhone, you would notice that the tech specs follow the iPhone when it releases in June, and iPod Touch releases in September. So it is safe to say that the guaranteed specs of iPod Touch 4 will be: Retina, A4, Gyroscope, Better Wifi antenna (possibly the iPhone antennas?), new design (similar, not same, as iPhone 4), Better graphics, Better battery, Camera (this is a maybe).

Balrgh, RANT IS OVER ;)

EDIT:
yes i know. I meant with AT&T.But apple can have ipod touch 4g 16gb for 199$ or 249$.

Memory is SO cheap these days that 16GB for 249 will be a rip off even though it is the NEW iPod Touch. 249 will get you a 32GB, Probably...

^^ About the 8GB/16GB situation: I think it depends on the person, whether they can make a selection or they want to upload their entire musiclibrary on their iPod touches. But I do agree with you. I have a 16GB now with only selected playlists because my library won't fit. I still need to add certain playlists which will for sure add atleast 3 to 4 GB's. As of right now:

6.92 GB Audio
4.2 MB Photos (if 4G gets a camera, I will definitely take a lot of candids!)
1.05 GB Apps (only a small selection of games that I often play at this moment)
424.2 MB Other (btw, I heard that the IOS 4.0 is a huge file, around 1GB, is that true?)
6.26 Free.

So, I'm already using more than 8GB. 8GB is not enough to fully enjoy the beauty of the iPod touch ;)

There are some other good options for earphones with the playback controls in them besides Apple's earbuds

These are great earbuds that are relatively cheap for the quality. Playback controls aren't going to appear so you might as well invest in a good pair of earbuds/headphones with playback controls. I'm content with double tapping the home button whenever I need to control my music.

I read on an other forum that Cydia had this application/setting that you could install so that whenever you press the volume button up (or twice) it would go to the next track. I guess I was just hoping for something simple like that. I'll probably purchase earphones with playback controls when the 4G comes out, wrote down the brand you mentioned, thank you for the suggestion! :)

i wish to apple had a 16 GB IPOD TOUCH 4g.I don`t want the 3g.
So i wish to have an ipod touch 4g 16gb for 199$ it will be awesome. I can have only 200$ for X-MAS.

Let the rumors come! :D

https://www.macrumors.com/2010/07/0...-camera-hd-video-recording-facetime-and-more/

Electricpig.co.uk reports that prominent UK retailer John Lewis has shared what it believes to be details of a forthcoming refresh to Apple's iPod touch line scheduled for a September release. The information, shared at the company's "Xmas in July" event in London, is reportedly based "noises we're hearing from suppliers", and while we consider it fairly speculative in nature, the report is gaining a fair amount of traction today.

John Lewis claims that the next-generation iPod touch will gain a 5-megapixel camera with flash, as well as the same HD video recording capabilities found in the iPhone 4. And while the company's information does not specifically address whether the next iPod touch will have a front-facing camera, it does claim that Apple's FaceTime video calling feature will be included, making such a camera a necessity. Finally, the retailer claims that the iPod touch will gain a gyroscope, as found in the iPhone 4, for more sensitive controls for gaming, augmented reality, and other types of applications.

The report is silent on whether the next-generation iPod touch will adopt the high-resolution "Retina" display found in the iPhone 4, although it seems likely Apple will want to bring the key screen improvement to its iPod line. Also unaddressed is what the brains behind the new device will be, but Apple will almost certainly shift to the in-house Apple A4 system-on-a-chip used in the iPad and iPhone 4.

Now I seriously cannot wait!

Your not going to see a 16GB iphone 4g for 199 with;

Front and Rear Facing Camera
A4
Retina Display
and all the other stuff people are saying.

It's got pretty much everything in the iphone and I saw a report saying that the iphone parts alone are about 180 dollars. So if you want all that stuff packed into ipod touch your going to be paying atleast 299. I believe there will be front facing camera with a 3.2 MP rear, A4 processor, but no Retina Display. Thats the most expensive piece in the iphone.

Same here.

Sorry i missed out on so much.

Right now, the only thing I am hoping is MORE STORAGE! Did you guys know that iOS4 takes up more of the "Other" on your iPod Touch/iPhone, 1.2GB to be exact. And for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G users, half of that you can't even use, like multitasking files and Wallpaper files.

I knew it took up some storage but i didnt think it was that much.
