I think the next itouch will get facetime and a back camera...HOWEVER it will probably remain the same thickness. and the iphone4 design will definitely rub off onto itouch 4g.
What do you guys think?

If they really want to enhance Facetime they will have both cameras. It will most likely not mantain the same thickness because of all the additions, but will not increase in thickness by much.

Steve Jobs said that he will sell tens of millions of facetime devices in 2010...but all we can do is hope.

How much money have you saved so far? Do you have a job?

Just so this thread will get back on topic....here are some features that I think we will see in the iPod Touch 4th Generation:apple:

Front Facing Camera -96%
Back Facing Camera -60%
Retina Display -70%
A4 Chip -Definitely
iOS4 -Definetely
Gyroscope -99%
All New Design -90%
16, 32, 64, and 128gb Storage -99%
Starting Price $199 US -80%
Updated Sound speakers and quality -100%
Faster -100%
Smaller -40%
Lighter -50%

The gyro has to be 100%. Apple has been marketing the iPod touch as a gaming device. Guess what the gyroscope is useful for?

Yeah, that isss true. Ill edit it to 99% What do you think about the cameras? 0, 1, or 2? How many pixels?

Because she loves me...ALOT, me and my sister are her only grandchildren ;)
Lucky....

About to say that. I think if they will have one camera they should have both. Retina and Gyro are both 99% because most apps are compatible and they have most likely overstocked on both. A4 chip is obvious, again overstocked. It will most likely be shipped with either 4.0.1 or 4.0.2, most likely 4.0.1. I dont think a total redesign is nessacary, just no chrome, and maybe a more square design. There most likely will not be 128GB, maybe if there was a 64GB iPhone 4 though. If they decide to make the base model a 4G it wont have anywhere near all the features. Nicer speakers and audio quality is most likely. A better processor is 100% because of the A4. It wont be smaller, why would they want that, they might want it thinner but thats not going to happen. It might be lighter though.

Yep, plus alot of apps are compatible.

Back Camera: 5.0 MP

Front Camera: 3.2 MP

Apple will want to enhance Facetime as much as possible.

Couple things

...Retina and Gyro are both 99% because most apps are compatible and....

Not True...Most applications still havent been enhanced enough to look good with retina thats why my previous signature asked develepors to make them compatible.

front 3.0
back 5.0 megapixels sound good unless they are both 5.0

Can you make a poll asking how many cameras people think the touch will get?

Thanx :D

Ok, some apps are compatible, and more are going to be.

I think Apple will either make the front have a better or tied res in order to enhance Facetime.

I can only have 1 poll per thread.

Apple should give us all the functions of the iPhone except the phone part.
I want the ipod touch to look like a iphone, have cameras, gps compass and all the other features.

Low-End Model

just a question how likely is it for there to be 4th gen across the board, on the 8gb or 16gb, 32 gb, and 64 gb. this is a concern for me because at most i'll only be able to get $200 to $250. But i still want a 4th gen, not a previous model like the apple is doing right now, with the low end being a previous model.

GPS Anyone?

Interesting. Not many mentions of GPS. GPS chips are not that expensive and could fit even with all the other listed features with a slightly modified design. Most navigation apps have maps preloaded, so wifi is not necessary.

This, as well as the other features mentioned, would make the iPod touch, well, untouchable for years to come. Not that the competition is exactly nipping at Apple's heals. Still, Apple is about staying well ahead of the game. Expect the unexpected this September. The high end model may cost $450-$500, but you can almost certainly expect a price drop with the 32gb model (I'm currently using the 2nd gen 8gb iPod touch).

Either way, I'm waiting for the refresh before I upgrade. It's a win/win situation. If the update is not what I expect, I can get the 3rd gen at a better price.

September - Apple's Music (iPod + iTunes) Event. :apple:
Yep.
v2Allen, I have a feeling your obsessed with the thread starter here. It's only a few more weeks until the Apple event. Get your countdowns ready.
Uhhhmmmmmm... not really.

Not very.
^That's unlikely. Usually the cheapest version of the truly-new model is $299.
Yep.
not to be mean but they have only had an old model at the lowest price, one time. that's not usually or a trend. but how likely is it percentage wise?
I think they will most likely have a $199 4G without all the features i.e. it will most likely have the camera(s) but not much, if anything, else.

I just dont think that GPS would be a nessacary addition for the 4G.

I dont think a price drop is probable, but hoped for. :p

We'll just have to wait until the next roundabout of rumors start piling up, last year it wasn't until about mid-august until rumors started heating up, but a lot of them were wrong, since we all thought the touch was going to have a camera, but didn't, I have a strong and positive feeling the touch is going to have not 1, but 2 cameras.

Regarding the low end model, I think >90% that the $199 model will be the 3rd gen model. Most likely 16 GB. I don't see much cost justification for designing a hamstrung 4th gen.

Look at the current low-end iPhone - it is simply the 3GS - 3rd generation model, not a hamstrung iPhone 4.

They need to start giving a name to the iPod generations as it will start to get confusing. You could have multiple generations of 16GB, each with different capabilities under iOS 4 ranging from not supported at all (1st gen), no multi-tasking (2nd gen) and potentially w/ multitasking (theoretical $199 2010 model).

Yes that's true, but look at the parallels with the iPhone releases.

iPhone
iPhone 3G (original iPhone discontinued)
iPhone 3GS (iPhone 3G kept as low end model)
iPhone 4 (iPhone 3GS kept as low end model with new lower capacity 8GB config, iPhone 3G discontinued).

iPod touch
iPod touch 2nd gen (original iPod touch discontinued)
iPod touch 3rd gen (iPod touch 2nd gen kept on as low end model)

By this analogy, iPod touch 3rd gen will be kept on as low end model with new lower capacity 16GB config.)

This is obviously speculation, but fits into the pattern.

Some troubling comments come from Apple's earnings report. Build cost is higher for iPhone 4, but Apple had to maintain pricing structure to be aggressive with market share. Smartphone business is ultracompetitive. Apple can afford to maintain pricing with iPhone, because the AT&T subsidy helps support margins.

With iPod touch, there is no subsidy - what you pay is what Apple gets. So either Apple takes a big hit in margins, pricing has to be increased, or features get sacrificed. From past revisions, the last seems likeliest. The question is what gets sacrificed from iPhone 4 to make an iPod touch?? I'm worried about the cameras and the display. The cameras because that's the feature I want most. The display because that strikes me as the costliest component.

I don't think that Apple will add a GPS device. Even if one is cheap, I think that GPS would make it more like the iPhone than cameras ever would. Who knows, though?

They might add one for this reason: having a great, new device could somewhat offset the publicity of the perceived problems with the iPhone 4. It still seems very unlikely, though.

Also, are you sure that navigation apps have maps preloaded? It seems like that would take up a ton of memory. *shrug*
