there will be a retina display. gyro and the face time dual cams for the true 4g. the gyro is for gaming. the cams are needed unless apple plans on lying about the tens of millions of facetime devices. the retina for compatibility with the newer high res apps. the A4 processor will be there as well. chances are, it will look like a mini iPad. with the anodized aluminum back. the A4 processor will be needed to power all those new games and the higher res screen. Apple might also use the better glass on this year's ipod. if they change the design, then they will have all models be 4g across the board. maybe a price increase to 229 so the profit margin is better on the low end 4g. the only reason that apple was able to get away with the fake low end 3g last year was due to the fact they looked identical. where is a time machine when you need one!!!

If it does have a retina display and facetime, I may buy it. It seems like the touch represents far better value than the iPhone at the moment.

I can't wait for it to come out. My ipod touch 2g has dead pixels, a scratch, and the headphone jack is messed up.
Retina display please!!:D

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM GOING TO BUY ONE WHEN IT COMES OUT!!!!!!!!!! I WILL HAVE ENOUGH MONEY THEN!!!!!!! YYYYYEEEEEAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really hop it does look like the iPhone 4 - in white!

^Calm the heck down. And as for the talk of dissapointment, I think people will only be disappointed if their expectations are way, way too high. Same as the iP4 and the iPad.

Expectations too high???????

All I want is:

A4 chip
Gyroscope
Retina Display
Front Camera (w/ Facetime)
Back Camera
512 MB memory

That's not too much to ask for is it?????? - Unfortunately I see your point and I'm starting to think that Jobs will probably let me down again!! :(

^IMO, those are reasonable. What I meant by "expectations too high" are the people who want 3G, GPS, a 5MP back camera, and various other unlikely features.

I think the people who want 3G and GPS on the iPod touch are just plain silly.

Also, I thought it was weird how you also own a 64GB WiFi iPad and owned a 2G touch until it was stolen.. darn thieves :(

It just seems too much like the iPhone 4. It will probably get the A4 1GHz chip on the high end models, def. gyroscope for gaming, high chance of a front and back camera, as for the back camera: 3.2MP, 256MB RAM

I just don't understand why Apple would choose 256MB RAM. The iPod touch always matched the current iPhone in terms of RAM, so why change that?

You're surely right, they won't change it, the iPod touch will be upgraded to 512MB of RAM. The internals (processor, RAM, WiFi, accelerometer) and core elements (screen size, screen resolution, etc.) have always been the same on the iPod touch as the iPhone, and it will continue to be that way.

I just think it would be too much like the iPhone, if the touch and iPhone both had 512MB it would have double the 256MB RAM in the iPad, which doesn't make sense.

But in this age and time, Computers are only gonna increase in capability. And the iPod touch is no exception.

Besides, I think the iPad never received 512MB, because it was too early to tell if they really needed it. If it was released today, it would probably have 512MB of RAM.

And one more point, I thought the phone part was the thing separating the iPod and the iPhone...

As far as expectations, some things which I think were reasonable to expect did not come to pass.

2009 iPod touch. No camera.
2010 iPad. Only 256KB RAM, no front camera. (should have been 512 with front camera)

My expectations for iPod touch: Retina, 3MP rear camera, A4 CPU, 512MB, 32MB or 64MB, gyro. $299 or $399.

The above is bare minimum for me to consider buying. I am not sure whether we should expect front camera too.

In my book, no cameras = no sale. 5MP rear cam = sold. 3MP rear cam + front camera = sold. 3MP = meh.

I expect meh. I think Apple does this so it is easier for them to sell the next edition. For example, next iPad will likely have the 512MB and front camera. Next year iPod touch will have the 5MP camera and front camera if it doesn't get it this year. Set the bar low, so it's easier to jump over it next time.

there will be camera on it. that is guaranteed. Otherwise apple would've been kidding itself when it said that 10s of millions of facetime devices will be there soon or something to that effect.

I agree with all of this.

Sorta.

It will have both cameras.

As much as i would love a $229/$249 32GB, i just cant see it happening.

Can you prove it will have both cameras?

All i want, is the 512MB Ram, Retina display, and the A4 processor, and id love a redesign.

It gets them, i get it.

Ya, I really doubt it will have a back facing camera at this point.

I just don't know how Facetime would be complete without the back-facing camera. If Apple removes that, they might as well remove Facetime altogether, and leave it on the iPhone.

couldn't have said it beter myself. Apple isn't one to half deliver on features. Because if it was that type of company, then we would have multitasking on the 2nd gen touch.

Even these expectations are too high. I can agree with all of this, except the two cameras portion. They'll most likely give us one, but there's always that little glimmering possibility.
